New June - Team Hakuna Matata!

He is quite interesting to listen to, but we have a wonderfull group right here, that if you knew their stories you would be amazed. There is for sure a book or two right here in our little Hakuna Matata team.

I was actually thinking that yesterday, that I don't know much about our team members. In return, none of you guys know much about me. Almost feel like we should have a private team BLOG to tell our stories from the past. Not a bad idea...but when your team is in training it makes for everyone having a too-tight-schedule. :confused3

Happy Friday the 13th everyone! I'm not a superstitious person but I have to say that I was pretty lucky today - DF had an emergency meeting downtown so he showed up at my house and I got a ride downtown. Much nicer than taking the subway and the bus.

Speaking of which ... it took me 1.5 hours to get home from work yesterday because the bus was a no show, sort of. I've noticed that this one driver in particular shortens his route by changing the sign on his bus to "short turn" whenever he's late. I think it's a way for him to get back to the station sooner. Naturally he showed up with his "short turn" bus yesterday - on the day that I wanted to exercise. I got home really exhausted but still managed 30 minutes on the elliptical and 30 minutes on the Wii Fit. I remembered one of Dave's posts and figured I didn't really have any excuses at that point. So thanks for the encouragement Panda!

Eva - Yes I remember someone telling me running was inexpensive too. Boy were they wrong! People give me a funny look when I tell them about running socks and how much they cost. Too bad they don't sell them by the bagful at Wal-Mart or Target.

Scott - Sounds like you could start your own cooking show! Do you have any recipes you can share with us? I've been a little low on ideas lately.

Denise - The Panda and Nick idea sounds funny!

Sue - I agree with you about the temps. I don't get how it can be sooo hot one day and so "cool" the next. Yesterday, I forgot my jacket and only wore a short sleeved shirt to work. I felt so chilly but today is suppose to be the complete opposite. Go figure!

Have a great Friday and stay cool :)

Plan on the Gym tonight...managed to get in a short 3.3 early walk this morning before my little guys arrived...mid-70's very humid, teased me with a little sprinkle but it fizzled.

:hippie: Yes... this is WAY too much information. : ::yes::
"Oh, well it's time to get off my butt and put some serious fear in the fat cells. Did you know that you can grow fat cells but you never loose them? Fat cells are like the bodies storage sheds. You can empty them, so they are not gorged like a tick, but they never go away. That's why it's so easy to regain weight, the storage sheds are already there and the body just has to fill them up." :headache:

Yes, Little Villain Michigan has been way Hot and Humid with lots of severe Thunder Storms in the area. I have been trying to get my deck & gazebo a much needed cleaning to re-stained/seal and the weather just will not cooperate. Maybe tomorrow :rolleyes1

Will post the recipe tonight, If I forget remind me. Or maybe Lynn will beat me to it. I tend to take recipes and add to them or take away. I don't measure, I just know, a cooking Karma thing, and yet the same dishes come out with consistancy. There is the name of my cooking show "Cooking Karma" or "Karma Cooking". :lmao: :lmao:

I know Dave and I have volumes;) to be printed. I have had a few adventures and want to have several more.

Kathy and Connie, have a great weekend, maybe next year when the basement is done.

Cheap Running :rotfl2: :lmao: :rotfl: :rotfl2: :lmao: .... you forgot the trips to Disney to do the races, then the must have stuff you find at teh Expos, i.e. race shirts, stuffed mickey and donald etc etc etc, oh hte nice Donald warm up coat.... stop teh madness, never it's too much fun....

It was a nice cool morning with very little wind, glad I did not take the gloves outta my jacket. Nice sunrise.

Will get outta work early today, I hope and either get in a longer run or basement work, wind dependant. I need a wind blown smilie dude.

50 weeks of work left :cool1: :cool1: :cool1: then I hope to be fitted for one of the blue Walmart vests. :lmao: we will see, better get at it.

Amazing how many ways I can spell the. LOL

It's Friday, Yeah!

Unlike Bunnyfoo, I am slightly superstitious. (black cats, ladders, Fri the 13th).

The following will be TMI for the guys. Sorry

Eva. I totally agree with you. The whole running and your cycle. Poor runs just before and great runs during. Need to do more reading on this.

Forecasting a rainy weekend. Might have to head to the gym for the dreaded weights. I really need to get back to this on a regular basis. My main goal for the 1/2 is to really take minutes of my finishing time. In order to do this and take my running to the next level I need to focus on weights and hill training.

Have a great weekend of running.....Sue
Now off to a day of meetings.

Good Morning Team!

Well, we got the south bedroom carpeted yesterday, this weekend we will do the woodwork, then move all the boxes into that room so we can start on the larger entertainment area! Scott is saying he will take the first week of July off so we can get a good start on that area.

Today should be a long walk for me, the weather looks good, I have been really slacking on the exercise lately, so I need to get this long walk in, I think it is supposed to be a 6 miler (which is not really long for me - but with the neglected exercise lately, it will probably seem longer than it should!) Also need to get some painting in, but I am almost done with that! We got the lawn mowed yesterday instead of today, in case we decide to go out tonight.

I agree that running/walking is not a cheap sport!!!!

Scott and I will work on the Babotie recipe tonight, I will start, but he will have to give me some estimates on amounts of spices, we have added to the original recipe, and I do not have amounts of what we have added.

Time to get busy, need to put a coat of paint on a shelf before starting my walk!

Have a great day!

Eva, that sounds like a doable idea on more indeapth bios than what we normally do for boards. Things happen to all of us that shape our thinking and often change us for ever.

I'm home from the gym. Today was my regular 3.5 walk of steadily increasing speed. Then I did my pool sprinting and stretching.

I had to go to the market to restock Erica with veggie stuff. She is staying true to her meatless lifestyle.

I on the other hand am seriously depleating the Tilipia stock. I'm feeling very strong on my mainly fish and veggie diet.

We do a lot of planning over on the walking section of DisneyRunning.com, if anyone wants to wonder over there and say hi. We are planning to do some picnics and such for ToT right now. We will start making January plans after ToT is over. We also have dinner planned for the SiFi dinner theater and the German Buffett for a late lunch. Then we have the mini golf, before the ToT race and the midnight pool party after. Of course all team members are invited.

Good Morning

I had an early morning PT - new problem but not one that affects my walking so we won’t go into details. I left the house at 6:30 and didn’t get done my PT until 8:15 so I was late for work but had made plans to have someone cover for me.

My new therapist is training for the local ½ marathon in November so we swapped stories, she’s only 40 and a runner but was impressed by my accomplishments. I told her she should bring the kiddies to WDW their 5 & 7 and will bring along my tips and tricks sheet next week in case she wants to make plans. Also will burn a CD of my favorite 80’s music since she doesn’t have an IPOD yet. Hey, if you can make friends with a therapist, your one step ahead of the game.

All in all a good day so far. Miranda, Mark and I plan on 4 miles tonight and might do the trail. So my miles this week will be finally respectable. Off tomorrow – taking a class on painting for a quilt. Always something but I can’t wait for this one!

Have a great day all – will post my miles at some point tonight as I won’t have any tomorrow.

Sorry Dave

The princesses have to stick together - Thanks Erica for the Suggestion and Nick will be pleased since it will no longer be all his fault!

Where is the fun in that? It was fun having the response to the stickers. There was someone behind us in the corral going "That's great, it's all Nick's fault. Oh, there's Nick!" and giggling.

Oh, and Mark's hair, notice it was perfect after the Half while the rest of us looked like something the cat drug in? I was thinking about that after Bee the other night.

Lynn - Is RaceReady the company? Maybe I'll search them out and give one of their shirts a test run to see if I want to order the WISH one when the time comes around.

I realized while walking that I had forgotten to answer your question - yes, RaceReady is the brand, I think the web site is RaceReady.com. They also make great shorts, with pockets all along the back of them!!! We found them originally at the Disney race expo's.

Got theTrim up now off to the Depot for a little R&R. :yay:

Will hang the closet door tomorrow.  :yay:

Vacation pictures to follow, no not really. LOL

Here is the recipe that Scott promised you all.

This recipe is from a Jackson Hole cookbook, I am not sure which one, I have several, all still packed away, so I cannot give proper credit for the original recipe. The comment about traveling from Africa to Jackson was in the cookbook. I think you would find the recipe from Boma to be slightly different, but not much.
Babotie
From Africa to England to Jackson, this recipe has traveled. It was well worth the trip!
Original Recipe:
1 pound lean ground lamb or beef
1 tablespoon vegetable oil
1 large clove garlic, crushed
2 medium onions, thinly sliced
2 teaspoons curry powder
2 teaspoons ground cumin
1/3 cup slivered almonds
1/3 cup raisins
2 tablespoons white wine vinegar
2 tablespoons lemon juice
1 tablespoon brown sugar
½ teaspoon dried basil
½ teaspoon dried marjoram
Salt and pepper to taste
2 eggs
1 cup milk

Things we have added to recipe:
½ bell pepper (any color)-thinly sliced
2 med red potatoes-thinly sliced and pre-cooked in microwave
Replace vinegar with rice wine vinegar
1 teaspoon Cinnamon
1 teaspoon Coriander
1 teaspoon Allspice
1 teaspoon Nutmeg
We also doubled all original spices, brown sugar, raisins and almonds.

1. In a large skillet, brown meat in oil. Remove with a slotted spoon to a plate. In oil remaining in skillet, sauté garlic, onions, curry powder and cumin until onions are tender. Return meat to skillet with onions. Remove skillet from heat and stir in almonds, raisins, vinegar, lemon juice, brown sugar, herbs and seasonings. Spoon into buttered shallow 1½ -2-quart baking dish.
2. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Beat eggs just until blended. Stir in milk. Pour over mixture. Bake, uncovered, 30 minutes, or until top is golden brown and crisp.

6 servings NOTE: Recipe may be doubled for larger gatherings.

Good Morning

Miranda,Mark and I did 4 miles last night we cut our time by 2 minutes. I wanted to go faster but Miranda still isn't used to powerwalking and Mark's leg still is bothering him so 2 minutes is pretty good. I wanted 5 but I'll take the 2. Total for the week 15 Finally!

Having morning coffee now and will pack up for class. Have a good day while I'm busy doing what I love - being with friends and my other passion for fabric.

Quote for the day from me!
Have faith in yourself, you can do it - one step at a time. Don't stop Believing!!

Add it to your IPOD, you can use it on those long walks, it helped me around mile 7 during the 1/2.

Lynn - Thank you for the recipe. I love African and Mediterranean food, but my DBF hasn't had much contact with it. I was bugging him to go to Boma, Jiko...even Tangerine might be a stretch for him. I'm going to cook something here at home and see if he likes it. He's not a fan of the salty/sweet and he hates a chickpea...so this one might be tough! May the force be with...me...lol! :yoda:

Scott - That color is very similar to the one I chose for our bedroom..if I ever get to stripping the wallpaper down. I love it though!

Denise - Love Journey!!

Dave - The bios...I wonder if I can find any survey style questions that would make it easier for us to put our info out there. I remember when my grandmother and aunt were still alive my mom did something like that with them...every woman in the family did this survey and it asked you to tell stories about specific things. Anyhow..it was a nice way to learn more about my family!!

I got my 40 minutes of my wogging the dog yesterday. I think I'll take it for the 3 miles though as opposed to the minutes. Total will be 17 miles / 1 hr and 15 minutes! Yay!!

Hi Ho...Hi Ho....you know the rest. I'll write later from the "cube".

-Eva

Good morning Eva and Denise. Looks like we are the only ones up on this rainy saturday morning. To bad we are all not at Disney where we could get together and sit out by the Boardwalk and have a pastry and a coffee by the lake. Erica loves to nibble the pastries they have at the Bakery there.

We normally have breakfast at Spoodles before meeting friends to do the parks. Spoodles' breakfast is excellent and a bargin by Disney standards, average price for a good breakfast there in $10 per person.

Denise, you are coming on strong. It's so awesome that you guys are doing everything as a family. The example you are setting for them is something to be proud of. The world needs more women taking the lead the way you do.

Eva, when we are doing the parks at Disney, I'm usually boring everyone else to tears with my life stories. Not sure anyone would want to hear them again here.

I'm sitting on the couch, laptop in lap, drinking coffee and trying to decide if I want to go to the gym today or just call it a rest day. I may go swim some laps or do some pool sprints. It's really hard to stop when you are on a mission and you're making progress.

Scott and Lynn, the room looks like a professional job. Erica and I are an awesome team but we are building challanged. We remodeled our dining room, painted it a rich dark red. It looks like an axe murder may have happened in there. Never paint a room dark red. It takes at least 200 coats of paint.

Everyone have a wonderfull day and stay out of trouble.

Nope I was up and out running, long run, i was slow today and a min off my mile per pace??? wierd, I did stop to tie my shoe and pick up a pair of gloves. Oh well I went the distance 6 miles plus. This will keep me going to get faster.

Not sure what to make for breakfast, we got coffee together.

gotta get out of these wet clothes.

Lynn picks the colors, and I toss it together.

Dave you and I can bore each other with our stories, we understand.

Might sit and read the paper.

Almost 0700 and we are burning daylight!!!!!

Later kiddies.

Coffee and pasteries on the Board walk sounds soooooo goooood. Maybe a plan is in the works.

TODAY IS FLAG DAY.... LONG MAY SHE WAVE!!!!

Good morning everyone! I woke up early this morning to go and pick up a copy of Mario Kart. I called last night to make sure they had some in stock and when I got there the manager said they never received any. He took my name and number and said when they got some in, they would call. Well 5 minutes later, I get home and he managed to find one - I rushed back to the store and picked it up.

Can't wait to try it out - but first... I have to get myself on the TM. I was planning on going outside but it's pretty muggy and I think it's going to rain. I want to get in a couple more miles before I submit my time for this week to Connie.

Lynn/Scott - Thanks for the recipe! I've added the lean ground lamb and marjoram to my grocery list for today. It looks yummy! I'll let you know how it turns out. Good job on the renovations! It looks very professional! :) I'm all thumbs when it comes to that stuff.

Denise - Great song! I've been looking for new stuff to add to my iPod.

Dave - I love the Boardwalk Bakery too! It's really nice and relaxing to sit and have a coffee + pastery there in the morning. I haven't tried Spoodles yet but if it's only $10/person, I'll add it to my list of restaurants for January.

Anyway I'd better get started on the TM! If I sit here any longer, I'll be here the whole day :)

Got the final touches on the south bedroom, there was a little glich in the closet door. set us back abit. Lynn is painting away. The we get to move stuff. Oh Boy.

Got in a six mile run this morn, might do then same tomorrow.

JB concert tonight on Sirius, KEWL!!!! I think we will do an winnie roast tonight as the wind is not bad.

Enjoy the evening....

Scott & Lynn, room looks GREAT.

Our furniture came today while I was at class. The delivery men loved our painting and said how well the furniture went with the job we did. Nice to have another voice of approval.

Oh and Dave, the lower portion of the wall is RED. I was a bit nervous about it but in the end I think the color is perfect. We used Dutch boy Valspa - great paint a bit expensive but less coats.

Our class today was good and lots of fun. I do have to finish my PT that I logged in for today but may go for miles tomorrow depending on the temp. Rain is OK but high heat will wilt this poor girl. Thats why I live in the north.

Night all.
