I interviewed out of state for my dream job last week. I love the facility, went for a first & second interview. Met the people I would be working with daily and saw the environment. I got to talk to employees, it is a positive environment with top notch training. I was informed yesterday that if the state processes my paperwork by this Friday the job is mine. I called the state I am moving to, and it is not going to happen. HR informed me that 4 out of the 8 new hires are all in the same boat, paperwork held up by state (the interviews were held last week, state requires 15-40 days for processing, job wants it done in 9 days. So out of 8 new hires, 4 were in state and the other 4 (including me) are stuck in limbo. This is a cross country move, and I was told they are going to try to work something out for us, they will let me know FRIDAY if they are willing to hire us and postpone the start date, and if they are not then they will offer the positions to 4 local candidates. (there were over 300 applicants and 60 interviewed for 8 slots) This means I would have to move one week from yesterday. I feel like they are just leaving us hanging here until the last possible minute. They have us over a barrel. In this economy, we are all fighting for this job, and they know we will all take it regardless of the details. So now I guess I need to pack as if I am moving next week? Ugh. If it falls through I am going to be so upset. I really have my hopes up, even though I know it is likely to end badly.

Pros
I REALLY want this job, it is a huge opportunity careerwise.
I love the area, and really want to move there.
I need this experience and this type of job is difficult to find, esp for new grads
My home is already for sale

Cons
I would have literally one weekend to drive down there, and would have to sign paperwork Monday morning and live in a hotel until I can find a short term apartment
It does not allow me to give my current employer 2 weeks notice, I have never left a job without adequate notice, but I dont want to give notice now because if this job falls through due to paperwork, I NEED my current job.
With no job offer, they have yet to tell us the details of the contract. I am the kind of person that likes to READ every detail before signing anything. But I will take the job if offered regardless of details.

This is truly an employers market. So sorry that your world is in limbo.

If they offer you the job, TAKE IT! It is your dream job. You can explain to your current employer what the scenario was when you give a shorter notice.

I know it sounds overwhelming but it can be done. Living in a hotel for a while isn't a bad idea. It gives you time to get to know the area, find neighborhoods you want, etc. One move we had we had ONE DAY to find a house, and we did. It is still my favorite house we have ever owned too :lmao:. Pack now, you can always unpack if things don't work out. If that doesn't work, hire a company to pack for you, unless that is taken care of for you already.

Also, to condense time, FLY, don't drive to hunt for a place to live. Priceline a ticket so it isn't expensive. That will give you a lot more time to look and get organized on the other end.
