The train ticket explanation was given, as well as references to $$, BENefitting financially from Northerners' spending, and also a reference to Benjamin being a common Jewish name at the turn of the century. That IS more common in the northern half of the shore towns with shoebie/shoobie being more southern/Philly. That explanation did match what I had been told about the shoebox lunches.
