New Jersey Census Worker Arrested for Being Sex Offender

This is why I don't allow my children to open the door when the door bell rings. This is why I don't open the door if I don't recognize the person if my husband isn't home. Even with an official badge, I'm not opening the door!

I am not even comfortable opening the door for the pizza guy. I know...I'm a little paranoid! :)

A friend of mine told me that one got fired for falsifying census forms.

I never answer the door unless it's someone I know. I hate to sound paranoid, but it's just not worth the risk.

This isn't the first case I've read about with census workers. On national news it was reported a census worker attacked a woman in her home and sexually attacked her daughter (that requires a wheel chair). He asked the census questions, identified himself to them and resumed the census work in the same neighborhood days after the attack. Bizarre.

It makes me wonder what if any screening the census workers had prior to being hired.

I'm not defending these scum, but as a census worker multiple times this past year, I was fingerprinted the first day of training each time and had to give my ss# for background check before that even. I do know someone who took the test, and then was not called in because of a fairly minor law violation in his past. I'm never offended when someone only wants to talk to me through the door, that's just fine. And I do think "fakes" come out at any time opportunity presents itself.

We're done up here, so hopefully we won't hear any more stories like this...

....the 'other side of the coin':

....my DS was recently hired by the Census Bureaj and was promoted 3 times within 2 weeks!! He is conscientious, hard-working, and TAKES THE JOB SERIOUSLY. He supervises a team of about 20 persons [keeps close tabs on all of them] and was asked to train new census classes...please don't judge an entire group based on one or two 'bad apples'.....:flower3:

...and, to add some brevity:

My DSis-in-L moved to NC and owns a gym. One of her clients is the mother of an adult autistic son. She had just arrived at the gym when she received a phone call from her son, yelling for her to hurry home - there was a TROLL in the closet. Of course, she pooh-poohed it, but he insisted that she come home to help him - he had 'captured' it and put it in the closet. Since he would not be calmed, she decided to go home, which she DID. There, locked in the closet, was a 'little person' [ I know it's not politically correct to say 'dwarf' or 'midget'] stuck in their front hall coat closet. He was a member of the Census Team for that particular neighborhood, and, when he rang the doorbell, the son, thinking that it was a 'mythical creature', overpowered him and locked him in the closet!

OMG!! :scared1: That is so wrong and so funny at the same time. As Larry the Cable Guy would say, "I don't care who you are, that's funny."

Oh, my! What's interesting about this story is that I heard a similar version of it from one of my students. I did a little snooping on Snopes.com and this is what I came up with...
