New Island?

It's pointless. Even with 6 ships, they never need more than one ship per day.

DVC is another story...

Just saw this in the Miami Herald. Hmmm...very interesting. There is still so much unused land on CC, not sure why they would need another island. Maybe adding two more ships, they need a second one?

"Disney plans to develop unspoiled Bahamian island draws fire"

An unspoiled, uninhabited 12-acre Bahamian out island ringed by a pristine reef and sandy beaches favored by nesting sea turtles may become something else: a cruise ship terminal for Disney. Little information has been provided to locals, other than confirmation that the government issued a temporary license for exploratory work to Disney contractor. Roberts said he met with Chris Lowe, Disney’s director of global development and public affairs, but Roberts said the executive wanted to wait for sampling results before providing more information. Disney declined to make Lowe available for an interview.

Just for the record, when Disney signed their 99 year lease for CC, part of the deal with the Bahamanian government was that about 60% of the land was to stay undeveloped.

AKK

12 acres is way to small to support a CC style project unless they are do major land reclamation project. I think even too small for a resort. Maybe it is for a longer term movie/tv/study project.

Except that Dream counts as two ships since she does three and four-day cruises, so therefore visits CC twice a week. There's no way they could get a lot of the construction and other work they do on CC completed if there was a ship there every single day. They need those bye days to do the major work because people *will* whine that they heard hammers and saws while on their vacation.

Seems strange as only a small portion of Castaway Cay has been developed. It would seem they could easily add space for a ship on the other side of the dock and develop the south side of the island. Granted I am not familiar with issues such as currents and other possible road blocks, but with infrastructure already available it just seems a better idea than buying an entirely new island.

I certainly wouldn't mind another tropical DVC option on the other hand.

As was pointed out in the other thread on this topic, Disney's lease for the island requires the majority of it to remain undeveloped.
