New Indoor Water Park in NJ

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

There is going to be a new indoor water park opening up in late 06 in South NJ. This will be a good replacement for having to stay overnight at Great Wolf Lodge in Poconos, where room rates are high.

"Primarily a Midwest phenomenon, indoor water parks have been making inroads in other parts of the U.S. New Jersey's first indoor water park, Sahara Sam's Oasis, is now under construction and is scheduled to open later this year in West Berlin. Unlike most indoor water parks that are part of a hotel resort, Sahara Sam's Oasis will be a freestanding facility open to the general public. Its featured attractions will be the Rip Curl, a FlowRider surfing attraction and Mount Kilimanjaro, a 45-foot tall family raft ride. In addition to the water park rides, Sahara Sam's Oasis will offer a restaurant, "family" bar (non-alcoholic drinks), and an arcade.

We love indoor waterparks! We just came back from Erie PA on Sunday. We were at www.splashlagoon.com We love it!! 3rd year going. I am wondering how busy the new place will be if they allow anyone in. (great idea by the way) I refuse to spend $400 at great wolf lodge when we live 1 hour away and the inlaws live 10 minutes. Crazy to have to buy a hotel package.

Can you tell me where you found out about this? i.e., where you got that descriptive paragraph in your OP? I'd like to send my SIL a link to the full article.

She lives in Woodbury but currently drives to Millville (past Vineland) for job as an aquatics director. Looks like West Berlin would be a shorter commute. She's highly qualified to manage this entire Sahara Sams facility.

TIA,

The description that you provided for the new park in NJ sounds like the Indoor Water Park and covention center in Sandusky Ohio's Kalahari Resort. We have stayed there many times since they opened last year. It is our very favorite. Sandusky is home to 3 indoor parks: Kalahari, Cast Away Bay (Cedar Point), and Great Wolve. Our second favority is Splash lagoon in Erie PA. :hippie: :grouphug:

Berlin is about 10 miles south of exit 4 of the NJ Turnpike. That puts it not far from Cherry Hill, Voorhees, Marlton, Mt. Laurel, etc., and about 20 miles or so from Philadelphia to the west and about 40 or so miles from Atlantic City to the east.

I got it from the themepark newsletter that I'm subscribed to:

I wonder how much the day passes will cost?? It seems as if the season passes are high.

Interesting. West Berlin isn't that far from me... (about 15 minutes).

I wonder if this place will be near the Clementon Lake Park. Although technically in Clementon, West Berlin isn't far.

The water park will be on Rt. 73 near the Voorhees border.

I pass the location where they are building everyday....they have had the land cleared for a while but it seems like it is at a standstill. My son asked if it was going to be like the Beach Club! He asks every time we pass when it will open.....that remains to be seen!

Hmm interesting! We are only about 40 minutes from the Great Wolf lodge in PA but those room rates can kill you. BUT $1000 for a family membership YIKES!! Anyone know how much for a day?

It is not too far from canals it about 5 min up the road. I just can't imagine what the parking situtation will be much less the traffic in this already very congested area.

I was thinking the same thing.. From Olgas Diner on down to practically the Berlin Circle, its pretty congested all the time.

I used to live in Marlton, and it has grown so much in such a short time. That promenade and Trader Joes plaza drive me crazy!

Parking will be hideous.

As for market, I'm sure they are trying to get people that don't want to go to Hurricane Harbor or Clementon Lake. I'm wondering if this place will become popular within the school field trip circuit. From what I have heard, Clementon Lake has gotten quite "ghetto" lately-- a term my students have said. Ghetto does not necessarily mean urban, but run down barely cared for context.

I don't think I'll be going at those prices. Shame too, since I'm only about 15 minutes away.

Thanks! That might be a fun place for during the week with the little kids when it's cold outside. Or for my friends who homeschool.

We're closer to hurricane harbor but haven't been there yet. We'd rather drive to Disney world for water parks, LOL. :)

I thought I heard an indoor water park was going up closer to Atlantic City. Anyone know? Is this it?

In the realm of close to Atlantic city, I can see how someone could think this may be "close" but not exactly nearby. This isn't that far from the AC expressway entrance on rt 73. However, you would still need to go down the AC expressway to get to AC.
