I am in WDW 3-14 December and we are moving into our newly built house in the UK on the 18th.
We have never bought household goods in the states before!!
Are there any pitfalls to look out for except for voltage and plugs.
We had thought of bed linen an perhaps lamps(which I think that all I need do is change the plug).
Any recommendations as to stores?

Hi
Buying things like bedding, make sure you get the right sizes- their queen bed size is our double bed size etc
also the wiring in a lamp is different so it will be more than changing a plug, you will need a transformer. i would leave electricals alone
walmart, Bealls, supertarget, Kohls are great stores to buy from :thumbsup2

i would definitely stay away from electrical items.

i often buy towels in the states, when i find the really good luxurious ones on deep discount (but only when they're on sale, not full price).

of course, everything is going to seem a good buy for you this time, because of the value of your currency versus the dollar..

i also like to buy some of the cute stuff for the kitchen (oven mitts, apron, kitchen towels, tablecloths, placemats).
But again, i only buy it on sale.
Even if i'm at Bed, Bath and Beyond, i only buy it on sale or with a coupon.
You can often find coupons for Bed, Bath and Beyond (and other stores) in the Sunday edition of the local paper.
There's often an insert with lots of coupons for various stores.

Good luck with your house move! :cool1:

Did you know there's an Ikea opening next to Mall at Millenia in Orlando next month? Should have same stuff as over here but with the advantage of a good exchange rate could save a few pennies :woohoo:

Also, there's Pier 1 Imports which is the same as The Pier over here - not sure where the Orlando branch is tho.......

Crate and Barrel is also great, bit like the Pier and good for kitchen things! That's also at Mall at Millenia.

You might find some coupons if you go on the stores websites.

Thank you all. Its surprising that we have been going to Florida for 10 years+ and while we have seen many of these stores we have never been inside. I think my wife will correct this in December

As a rule I'd stay away from electricals unless they are dual voltage for the simple reason you don't want transformers cluttering up the house, but the advice above regarding a lamp is wrong.

If you fit a UK bulb then there is no problem provided the internal wiring is rated at 230V(from 120V US), but I'd doubt you'd be able to find that out in the shop.
No transformer needed, the current with the UK bulb will be less so no problems there, probably not worth the hassle but possible.
