I have been researching purchasing DVC and have found your information to be so helpful here. Thanks for that.

I think I understand somewhat how DVC works, but had a question about use year. What does this affect? Does it only reflect when you receive your yearly points or is there something I am missing?

Thanks for your help. This is all very confusing!

There are 2 that come to mind. 1 is as you stated, it's when you get your annual allocation of points, the other is it defines your banking dates, from your UY month you have 6 months to bank 100%, 9 months for 50% and 10 months for 25%. If you tend to vacation at the same time each year, a UY just before that time would serve you well. That way if you are forced to cancel you have time to plan a new trip or bank the points.

A third would be your booking "advantage". At your home resort, you can make a reservation 11 months from the check OUT day.

This can be important depending on when your use year is because it can affect banking of points, etc. that you will use to make your reservations. Use year does not directly impact the 11 month booking at your home resort (or 7 month at any DVC), because you get that advantage no matter your use year, but it is something you need to keep in mind when managing your points for your trips.

Thanks so much for the answers and advice.

I put an offer on 150 pts. at OKW. Now I'll just have to wait to see if it is accepted.
