HI!! I just found this website and am SOOO super excited!! We are just beginning to plan a trip to Disneyland. But I have a couple of very basic beginner questions. How young is too young to enjoy the park? Our kids are currently 3 (4 in Sept) and just barely 2. Both are on the tall side (4 year old is 42 inches already). Let's start with that and then I will do some reading of other threads and check back in! :)

I took my DS last year and he was about 16 month. I went with my sisters and their kids. We went on rides and met characters. He seemed to have a blast. He was smiling on the teacups and pointing at Peter pan. Loved Buzz. So I think your kids are at great ages to enjoy the park.

I am one who thinks that there is no "too young" to enjoy the park. As they grow there will be new experiences for them to enjoy.

I have a lot of pictures of my kids when they were younger, and I always smile when I remember the fun we had.

Any age is a great age to take your kids to Disney! We took my daughter to WDW when she was 16 months old, and while she doesn't remember it, WE have great memories of her seeing Buzz and Woody for the first time, seeing her eyes twinkling on Small World, and giving Snow White a giant kiss. We've taken her to Disneyland since then, and she talks about it constantly! We're in the works planning our next trip (for October) and she is already making a list of things she wants to do again (she's 3.5 now). So I think your kids will have a great time!
I'm a relative newby myself, and everyone here has been so helpful! Seriously, you can ask anything, and these folks are happy to help!

I agree with you. There are different levels of enjoyment. And the memories are priceless.

I don't think your kids are too young at all. We have a 10year old and a 5 year old and a 2 year old. Last year our not quite 1 year old loved it! I think 4 is a great age for DL. Everything is new and magical at that age. Have fun planning!

On our trip earlier this month we took a 3-year old (he turned 3 in February) for his first visit, and he had a terrific time.

To give him some idea ahead of time, we watched a lot of the rides on YouTube before we left. Then when we got there, we started out with the Bugs Land rides in DCA, then moved up to DL rides in Fantasyland, It's a Small World and Jungle Cruise, and by the 2nd afternoon he was doing Space Mountain with no fear!

The only ride he could have done height-wise but was definitely not interested in was the "scary one", Tower of Terror, so we skipped that, and he didn't like the Aladdin show in DCA because it starts out "scary", too.

We did spend a lot of time in Bugs Land and Mickey's Toon Town letting him dictate the pace, but it was fun for all of us, and a whole different way of seeing Disneyland than with older kids.

I can't wait to go in another year or two and do CarsLand with him!!!

My DBF's little brother was about 2 or so when we went for the first time, and he had a blast. We did a lot of the character stuff with him (he was a little shy to the fur characters at first, but warmed up fast. And he was a ham for the Princesses.) We also took him on a lot of the rides he was big enough for. He wasn't so much a fan of Alice in Wonderland because of the loud noises, but he was alright with Peter Pan after the initial dark period. He didn't like the fireworks, again because of the noise, but we worked hard to get a spot by the rails for World of Color and he absolutely adored it. Needless to say, we took him in as an Elmo-nut and he left a total Disney-head. No more mention of Sesame Street once the mouse was in his mind. ;)

There are plenty of things that kids that age will have a blast with, so long as you work well to stay in their comfort zones. If they don't like the dark, try to stay clear of Alice in Wonderland, Peter Pan's Flight, and the like. The rides at Bugs Land, the outdoor Fantasyland rides, IASW, and the Jungle Cruise were all winners. (We haven't been on The Little Mermaid Ride, but it doesn't look like the traditional dark-ride a la Alice; youtube videos make it look much brighter with less to surprise, so it should be okay.)

If loud noises aren't their thing, again stay away from Alice in Wonderland. Peter Pan should be alright on noise. The fireworks can be upsetting, but we've learned our lesson and we're bringing some noise-reducing headphones this time. As for World of Color, it's an utterly fantastic show that everyone in our group loved, but for kids that small you really have to plan ahead. It's standing only for that show, which means unless you get right up by the rail a lot of it is blocked for the younger ones. Claiming your spot an hour ahead of time should get you a spot fine.

(Also, just a note...Nemo's subs seem very tame, but there is a *very* scary section with the Angler fish. The jellyfish also riled up DBF's brother badly, and he didn't like being stuck in that little dark sub. The memory of his tears on that ride are very vivid...he was pretty much shot for the rest of the day. So that's just something extra to consider.)

I hope that helps some! I'm sure you'll have some magical experiences on your trip! :goodvibes

We first took our son at 2 1/2 and he loved it, talked about it for months and is very very excited to go back in August (at 3 1/2) There's so much to see and do-I'd definitely go now!

We took our twins the first time when they were 18 months old. We still remember that trip and the fun we all had.
After that we went to DL, on average, every two years.
Each time, as my kids got older, they enjoyed DL differently.
This year we are all going again as a family. My husband and I are senior citizens and our kids are approaching 30.
And we are all very excited to see DL.
There is no age too young or too old to see and enjoy DL.

Never too young! We took my son when he was 7 months old and it has probably been my favorite trip to date!! I love seeing the magic through a young child's eyes :)

YAY!!! You guys have NO IDEA how glad I am to hear all these success stories! DH has never been to DL and I havne't been in 15 years and am dying to go back! My friend and I always joke that when the kids enjoy the carwash they are ready for DL. Well both my kids beg to go wash the car so I guess it's time!! :rotfl2: Now on to the planning!

welcome to the disboards, your kids are not to young at all. I would say take them when they are younger and for a few years watch them grow and enjoy diffrent parts of the park as they grow. So plan on going in another year and half or so after this trip.

My son use to be a bit of a scady cat, now he is all in to thrills and he wants to be scared and have fun lol
