Regarding the brand new Haunted Mansion queue, is the handicapped entrance the same, or do us handicappers go through this new queue??

Scott

I was wondering that as well. I saw a bunch of pics online and it looks like there is still a spot where wheelchairs break off, so I guess the question is if the get to experience any of the queue.

Mary

I have not been thru the new queue yet, but expect that there will still be the same break off point for guests with wheelchairs and ECVs. The reason is that the turnstiles at the entrance to the Haunted Mansion were not the only things that made the attraction not accessible.
The boarding area and the unload area have a moving walkway. The unload area is the best place for guests with wheelchairs and ECVs to board because there is more space and time to get on and off. Plus, the CMS can stop the moving walkway at the unload area.
Some other things -
- there is no way to get a wheelchair or ECV from the regular boarding area to the unload area
- the stretching room is dark, which can make it hazardous to operate an ECV or wheelchair in there or make it easier for someone with a mobility problem to trip

We're going next week, so I'll scope it out and try to get some pictures.

Darn!! I hate this...
I mean we understand the hazards and what not, but it's a bummer we can't see the new ride entrance!! :confused3

You go through the regular line until you reach the wheelchair sign from there they take you though the exit just like before. We were there last month.

I had heard that the turnstiles had been removed. Also that wheelchairs would go through the line and enjoy the pre-show and then would be re-routed to the typical loading area for wheelchair users. One website indicated that there was even concern from CMs that people might get run over in the dark or that the headlights on the larger units would destroy the "mood." So there is talk. We are looking forward to seeing the pre-show aspect on our next trip. Hope this is right. A different website said that the reason that the mirrors where the hitchhiking ghosts ride out with you were covered now was because of construction work behind them regarding wheelchair access. Again. With a grain of salt. But some hope there. When we had lunch with An Imagineer, he said his wife was the lead imagineer on the last Haunted Mansion refurb and that they tried several kinds of ways to get wheelchairs on the ride, but none worked. so they seem to be on this.
Have fun!

I dunno about WDW's new line, but in DL we go through the stretching room. They just put us in last so no one trips over me coming in and then I wait for the room to empty before I go out. Then I get to ride the stretching room back up! (it's an elevator in DL)

DS and I are going on it tomorrow, so I will report back on what we find! :thumbsup2 We are doing stroller as a wheelchair. I don't like missing the stretching room and when we were there on Sunday a cast member said when they opened the queue it would be different, but didn't say how.

It is my favorite ride, I am glad DS gets a kick out of it, because his big sister hates it!

Quick update. Just watched a video of the new addition on youtube. It showed a gentleman being pushed in a manual chair through the new interactive section. Yay! I was hoping he would continue to be in the crowd so I could see where they pulled the wheelchair users aside, but alas the video lost him. I did see a picture posted of the "new" accessible entrance. but it didn't show where in the new line it was. Time will tell.
Have fun!

you can now go through the regular line, through the stretching room and they have a "hallway" of sorts that will bring either u (if u can't walk through the short line inside) or your chair/scooter to the exit ramp.

Last night(March 17) I was in line(regular que, not interactive, it didn't seem to be open), there was an ecv behind me. What seemed to happen was the ecv made it into the "lobby" and th e CM asked them to wait to enter the streching room till the rest of the small group was in, she also advised the ecv guest to stay tothe right(in this room the "exit" was on the left. I think this was so the ecv would not be run over by the rush of people who must be first. After being on the ride a short while(staircase room) the ride paused, I assume to load the ecv guest. As we were exiting I saw a CM pushing an empty ecv(different from the one in line with me, it was already at unload) into the unload area. I hope this makes sense and helps, but it seems that ecvs and wheelchairs can board through the regular que now, as with all things Disney though this could change anytime.

Awesome! I can do the stretching room again? Cool!

I'm not going to get my hopes up really high until I hear from someone who needs the Doombuggy with the cut away side to transfer into. I can see them handling things differently in that situation.

We did it today! When I showed the GAC they initially tried to steer us to the alternate entrance (exit route), but we had friends with us, too many for the GAC (plus I wanted to try the queue) so I asked if we could keep the stroller in the queue instead. The new queue was farther down than I thought it was, but people were choosing which route they preferred. I thought it was fun and the kids in our group loved it, but DS was not able to reach much from his stroller, so he got frustrated.

As we entered the stretching room they asked us to stay to the right and hang back until it was filled. Then a CM used a flashlight to guide us to a spot, and they told our party to wait and they would help us get out. When we were leaving they asked if we could carry DS and transfer now or if we needed to go through the exit. We opted to hold him (bad choice, since the ride stopped for quite a while and DS got anxious waiting and pinched my arms quite a bit!) but it generally worked out ok. Otherwise they would have brought us to the exit.

Hope that helps! I did get confused when the stroller was outside on the exit and not inside, but other than that it worked well.

Thanks for the report.
There was always a door that allowed guests who could walk a ways (I think the CMs would say 200 feet) that went from the hallway by the exit. That door was marked “Servant’s Entrance” and led from that hallway into the stretching room. For a while after the last renovation a few years ago, they did allow guests to bring their wheelchairs or ECVs thru that door into the stretching room and then back out the same door to get on at the exit.
They stopped doing it after a few weeks - what I heard was that since those guests were entering the room after the other guests had gone in, it was considered to be possibly disruptive and possibly dangerous.
If they can enter at the same time with other guests, thru the main door, both of those problems are greatly minimized.

We will be at WDW in a couple of weeks (and will be asking for the transfer doombuggy), so I will report back after we’ve been.

Thanks to everyone with the comments!!! Hope and I(Scott) are going to WDW in 10 days! At that point I'll be in a scooter. Whether I get to "scoot" in the new HM queue or go through the other handicapped entrance, I am grateful to all.

This probably sounds like a dumb question but are they definitely getting rid of the turnstiles at HM with this new queue?

I hated those things! As a "pooh-sized" person I found that this was the tightest spot in all of WDW. I could fit through if I angled just right but one time I thought I was going to be stuck and it was really embarrassing!

I hope that they took these out. I find WDW to be very friendly to all shapes and sizes and easy to navigate but this was previously one of their problem spots.

I have seen pictures and they did take the turnstiles out.:thumbsup2
