New hamburger/hotdog rolls at Disney

:earseek: OMG! we just returned from a great week at WDW. we have never had any complaints about the food at disney until now. the hot dog and hamburger buns along with pizza dough and flatbreads are now wheat. these buns are tasteless and they fall apart. they are everywhere, even beaches and cream. The flatbread at Captain Cooks was inedible. i understand that Disney wants to offer healthier options, but come on! why can't we have a choice of a white or wheat bun? we also noticed a decline in the food quality as well. we love hot dogs at disney, but this time they were different. they didn't taste as good and they were kind of mushy inside along with the wheat roll. the fries were different as well, like maybe they are fried in a different oil? Anyway, aside from the above, we had many great TS meals at Kona, LTT, Coral Reef. :hippie:

Maybe they took the trans fats out? They did this here (NY) and all the fast food places. It all started with a very "obese" child whose mom sued McDonalds because her kid was eating at McD's 3 x a day and he got to be like "really big". So suddenly nobody else wanted to get sued so they all decided to get "healthy". Maybe that is what Disney is doing. I hate whole wheat bread.

We had them too when we went for a weekend in April-OMG they were so tasteless and very stale. Its funny b/c after we were leaving we were asked to take a poll on the food-so we sat at this computer booth and they were asking if we felt the "new menu" was good. They are trying to make the food healthier. Well we thought it was gross and overpriced for stale food.

someone else posted a CASEY's thread - my friend also reported that the buns basically break in half, she tried to get 3 different buns, and just gave up and ate the hot dog with out the bun - but she made a point to stop at the Guest relations to complain -

you can get whole wheat buns that arent stale!!

I prefer my hotdogs and hamburgers on a white soft fresh roll with a good bread flavor. The new rolls are none of the above. I really hope that they get enough complaints and change back to the old rolls.

i hate having healthy choices shoved down my throat - literally.

leave the classics alone: hot dogs & hamburgers belong on a squishy white processed bun

as it is meant to be.

so it is spoken - so it should be done. :wizard:

It sounds like Disney is going through a testing phase with the whole wheat stuff like they did when they changed the kids meals. Hopefully the feedback is so overwhelmingly negative, they snap out of it and go back to good old-fashioned white bread. Let me take responsibility for my health, thanks. Disney should stay focused on what it does best: providing great entertainment. ;)

I have the name and number of someone to call directly because I complained about this several months ago. After my last trip and eating what I considered something that should be served in prisons but would probably cause a riot, I need to act. My husband can tolerate some things, including wheat rolls. These were not wheat rolls.

All I ask is for Disney to give us a choice like they do with kids meals. The kids can have fries and a soda if they want. Why can't we have a hot dog (clearly our favorite snack in all of Disney World) with a white bun? Why? Why? Why?

I've had the new buns. If there's more than 10% whole wheat in there, I'll eat my mickey ears (which, by the way, are a wonderful source of fiber.)

The buns I had, while having little flecks of brown in them, were just as soft, squishy, and substanceless as I remember them.

My DD is a very fussy eater. She looks forward every year to getting pizza at Toy Story Pizza Planet and Pinocchio's at MK. Have they ruined the pizza here by changing it to whole wheat crust?? Anyone tried it???

Don't wait. Complain now. They are that bad.

I complained, and that was in Feb. I was just there 2 weeks ago, and they are still giving us the Crappy Buns and Rolls!:sad2: Won't be going to Casey's anymore, and now Pecos Bill is off the list, due to the lousy Chicken Wrap I got, it sucked so bad, I thru most of it away!:headache: Might have to consider bringing my own package of buns to Casey's I bet other Patrons would love ME!

For the record, "white processed buns" are still made of wheat - they are just bleached. Nice to think of ingesting bleach! :scared1: It would be nice if they would offer a choice.

I don't understand WHY Disney makes such goofy(pardon the pun) decisions when making changes(esp. with the food). IMO, its much smarter to TEST the change before it actually takes place. Why, in the name of Walt, would they actually THINK that people would be happy with the change?? I don't understand. :confused3 Surely, the change doesn't save them THAT much money compared to what happens when people stop eating them. I'm extremely disappointed, as we are ones who love Casey's, Pecos Bill's and Cosmic Ray's. We rarely order pizza in WDW, but we have eaten alot of burgers in the past. Even though I don't expect much change for our 2-3 days there in June, I certainly hope a full change back to normal has taken place by the time our October trip rolls around.

I really, REALLY don't understand this! I don't care what the buns are made of; they should not be dry, stale and falling apart. No matter what type of wheat or flour or whatever else is in them; if they are falling apart, it sounds like they are just stale.
It sounds like Disney not only switched the bread but is increasing the shelf time on it or something, and not getting as many fresh shipments. Some people say they notice the new bread, but that it is soft and tastes fine. Other people complain of dry falling apart bread. I think some people are just getting served stale old stuff.
Gross.

I tend to agree that the problem is probably that they are old and stale. My mother-in-law works at the Wal-Mart bakery in our area and she said that due to the gas prices, the Wal-Mart trucks are making bread deliveries only when the trucks are full versus every day (as had been the practice in the past). Unfortunately, something has to suffer due to the price of gas, and it certainly wouldn't surprise me if WDW is enacting similar measures to Wal-Mart in an effort to conserve gas. After all, we would all get up in arms if the ticket prices go higher, right? :rotfl:

I'm also wondering about the "old and stale" thing. I buy and eat whole wheat bread and buns here at home and they are neither tasteless, dry, or any other negative. Regardless of whether or not they contain more "whole wheat" as opposed to the processed bleached stuff that we are used to, they should be soft and taste good! Bad decision, Disney head of company food guys!!:upsidedow

Does anyone have the email address to complain about this? Perhaps if enough of us complain, they will have to rethink their decision...at least give us the choice of white or whole wheat?
