New Half Marathon/8k Williamsburg, VA

Hi All!

I cant tell you how excited I was to see the race metioned here

I am the Course Captain for Run For The Dream weekend and I can say its going to be a great time. Over the last 6 months I have run the course for both the 8 K and 1/2 multiple times, it will be challenging and fun. Let me know where the W.I.S.h Meet Up will be so I can stop by and personally welcome and thank you all for coming out :wave2:
(Maybe even give out a few course pointers as well :ssst:)

Cheers!

A Saturday evening W.I.S.H. meet works best for us. We'll be staying on property so that makes everything easier. The plan is to arrive saturday morning, go to the expo, and then use our free ticket for Busch Gardens. After we shower and checkout on Sunday we will use our free admission for Colonial Williamsburg and head home Sunday evening. I wish we could stay longer but we have already maxed out on vacation days.

We just recieved the word that Colonial Willamsburg is putting on a nice event Sat night. An email will go out next week to all of the runners and I will post it for all of you here. Quick overview is a dinner on the Palace Lawn followed by a Salute to the Nation program and fireworks. Details to come later but it might be a nice meet up or post meet up event for you :thumbsup2

Cheers!
Dan

That sounds like fun! We would be interested. It makes dinner planning easy.

Love the idea for Saturday afternoon/evening! Maybe we could get together for drinks or just to hang out, then go to the dinner as a group.

I have vacation days to burn, so we're going up Friday morning and will just hang out on Friday, or do Colonial Williamsburg, run the 8K Sat morning and then do the Busch Gardens thing that afternoon. That will leave Sunday free to scream team and take it easy before driving back Monday morning, or we may just check out and come home if no one else will be around.

Yes, I'm out of town right now, but doing a daily check-in to see if there's more info about the WISH meet. Hope it will happen......

John & I will arrive late Friday night, driving down after work. We plan on hitting the expo first thing Saturday morning then hopefully Busch Gardens. (when we registered we were 3200 something, but it still asked us if we wanted tickets - hoping it's because they had a bunch of people that didn't want tickets) If we don't have tix for BG we will wander around Williamsburg. A Saturday evening meet will work for us. Sunday we will be driving home after the race. Looking forward to racing through Williamsburg! :cool1:

Hi everyone,
The Saturday evening event being put on by Colonial Williamsburg is up under the Visit Williamsburg Tab on the top of the Run for the Dream site page. It is called the Salute to the Nation for anyone interested. They are requiring reservations for the box dinners.

I saw a comment about Busch Gardens tickets as well. Please use the Contact Us form on the website to double check your tickets. The registration folks will get back to you promptly.:thumbsup2

Thanks!
See everyone in 2 weeks!

Thank you for the info on double checking if we will get BG Tix. I just sent a message through the 'contact us' button.

Thank you also for the info about the box dinners. I checked it out on the website but it does not say what exactly is in the box dinner. :confused3 Would you happen to know? There is a number to call but I would rather know in advance of calling so I don't have to call twice (once to find out menu, then call back to reserve after I check with DH to see if he will want to eat what is in the box dinner)

Thanks again! I look forward to the race!

DD and I are thinking about booking dinner at one of the taverns (probably Kings Arms) instead. For the price, I think I'd rather enjoy a nice dinner instead of the box dinner. Then we'd go over for the musical program at 8:00. At least that's what we're leaning toward right now...

Jackie

The box dinner doesn't thrill me either, but we would love to meet up with everyone for the rest of the festivities......if that's allowed.

Thanks Jackie!

The box dinner doesn't appeal to us either. It's just not food I can eat the night before a race.

I guess we will grab something to eat some where in Williamsburg or maybe eat before we leave Busch Gardens. We are planning on going to the music program & fireworks too!

Many, many years ago I ate a couple of times at a really good Italian restaurant at Busch Gardens. Don't know if it's the same Italian restaurant that's there now, but it might be an option for dinner Saturday for those running on Sunday.

We could have two meets - one in BG on Saturday afternoon, and another at the music program and fireworks show for people who aren't at the park? Just an idea...

Can't believe it's this weekend!

Jackie

I'd love to get in on the WiSH meet as well. I'm arriving Friday around 3 or so, hitting the expo (I'm planning on the 8K on Saturday and the half on Sunday right now), then going to see Pirates 4 at 4:30 at a theatre in Williamsburg. No real plans for Saturday after the 8K race -- BG can be very crowded on the weekend, but I'd go if there were other WiSHers going because I love the company. ;)

Probably head back home Sunday shortly after the race. Long drive and I need to be at work very early Monday.

I would think dining in Colonial Williamsburg somewhere would be convenient if we're planning on being back for the "special event." I'm game for anything though.

I'll keep checking back.

We plan to arrive late Saturday morning and will hit the Expo and then on to Busch Gardens using our free admission and $15 meal vouchers (I had totally forgotten about that!) We also plan to be at the fireworks that evening, but are not interested in the boxed meal. Hoping that someone will coordinate some plan for a WISH dinner. We are just about game for anything. Worse case scenario, we could send out for pizza and eat it in their breakfast room.

I am looking forward to seeing everyone, but am SOOOOO not ready for a half-marathon. I have not done more than 5 miles since ING NYC! I plan to use every bit of my 4-hour allotment.

Hi All,
I would recommend Sal's By Victor up in the Williamsburg Shopping Center If you are looking for Italian/ Pasta. The Shopping center is on the corner of Richmond Rd and Monticello Rd, a few blocks up from the William and Mary Stadium. It's my favorite and a local hidden gem. They do have fairly large tables and seating areas. Its tucked back in the corner by the Bloom Grocery store.

We did a course drive thru today and it looks good to go. Weather is looking to be 60-65 at the start for both days with about 64% humidity and mostly clear skies as of todays reports. you should have a great run!

Cheers!
