New Half Marathon/8k Williamsburg, VA

Thanks, Dan! I checked out the menu and Sal's looks awesome. Not sure if they take reservations, but if people let their intentions be known, I would be happy to call and try to reserve a table. I'm figuring we should try to meet about 2 to 2-1/2 hours before the fireworks program. The bigger the group, the more time we will need.

We plan on arriving late Friday and hitting Busch Gardens on Sat. I'd be up for a meet in the park but if people prefer somewhere else I'm sure I can make it work.

Annie and I would be game for Sal's. We can do our tavern dinner on Sunday night. Count us in for any time!

Jackie

Count John & I in for a dinner meet. We original were going to just grab something in the Colonial Williamsburg area before the fireworks, so the dinner sounds good.

Jeanne - I have done nothing since KY last month so I will be right there with you at the back. :-)

Anytime! I'll be running around like a madman all weekend but will def try and make time to say hi to all of you where ever you end up.

Have a safe trip down everyone!

So it looks like it is me and John, Karen and John, Jackie and Annie (no Bill?) and I am unsure if it's a definite yes from Jen & Butch and Dan for dinner at Sal's. Anyone else interested, let me know and I will call to make a reservation. Also adding Wendy......I'm pretty sure she wants in.

Jeanne - I'm not taking my laptop, so once you make the reservation, could you message me on FB? I'll have my phone with me all weekend and that will be the easiest way for me to keep up with everyone!

Jackie

Will do. I will wait until midday tomorrow to see if anyone else wants to be included and then I will call.

I need to check and see what DBF wants to do for dinner that evening, but we may be in for it as well...if you want you can PM me and send me a phone number to give you a response for sure today via text or I can just reply on here again later when I know :goodvibes

Yup! Wendy wants in!!!!! :banana::banana::banana:

It's a yes for Jen and Butch, just let me know the time. Looking forward to seeing everyone. :yay:

I went ahead and made a reservation for 10 at 5:45 (under the name Jeanne).
Presently we are 9, but if Shannon and her hubby join us, they can always add one more place setting. See you all there!

Hope you all had a great dinner! sorry that we didnt get to come out and meet you all, but we were tired and had a nice dinner in at the hotel :goodvibes

How did everyone do at the race?? I saw a ton of WISH shirts and a couple Wine and Dine half marathon shirts :thumbsup2 I had a yellow and black shirt and black capris on and I was cheering you on as I ran past!!

Sorry I missed all of you as well for Dinner. Last minute course preprations kept me away. :moped:
I hope everyone had a great time. We are currently evaluating the race this year and would welcome any feeback or suggestions. You can post them, here on the FB page or send a private message to me.

Thanks again for coming and I'll see all of you at Disney in the future! :mickeyjum

Shannon & Dan - sorry you didn't make it to dinner. It would have been nice to meet you both.

Dan - I really enjoyed the race. It was a tough but fun course. I thought the race was very well organized. It was awesome being able to use 'real' restrooms pre-race. Loved running through Colonial Williamsburg. Colonial Parkway way tough with the hills & the rock/cement surface (after a mile or 2 it felt like those rocks were coming through your shoes LOL) but was very scenic & enjoyable. It was nice finishing on the track in the Stadium. It turned out to be a pretty hot day (at times it was brutal in the sun for long periods without any shade) but inspite of the hot temps there was plenty of water & Gatorade on the course. That was really nice & appreciated by those of us at the back of the pack!!! it was awesome getting not only a finishers medal & tech shirt, but also admission tickets into Colonial Williamsburg & Busch Gardens along with the food voucher. if the free admission tickets to both of those continue to be part of the registration, I will definitely be back to do the race again! (won't be back next year because my son is getting married in May 2012 but will hopefully be back in 2013) Thanks for putting on a great race & one that was well worth the cost of registration! :thumbsup2

Dan & Shannon - Sorry you didn't get to join us for dinner. Thanks for the recommendation, Dan - we had a very enjoyable meal with good service.

Dan - DD and I only did the 8K, but we were impressed overall with the entire weekend. There were a few hiccups at the Expo figuring out where to go first, but other than that my only recommendation would be to have more signs directing people to the shuttles after the race. We actually didn't use the shuttles - we were staying at the Governor's Inn and decided it was easier to just walk back, but it didn't seem that anything was clearly marked. I thought I'd read on the website that the postrace shuttles were only going back to the Visitor's Center, but the shuttle was at our hotel when we got back there. We did ride it over in the morning and were very impressed with the service. Loved the 8K course and the finish inside the stadium.

Just asked DD if she had any suggestions - her biggest issue was when she finished, she waited in the finish area for me before going to the post-race bash. She said she wished there had been some food (orange slices, a bagel) there - she wanted something to eat without having to go to the bash first. Don't know how that would work - just her two cents worth!

Thanks for a great weekend!

Jackie

Thanks for the Feedback Jackie and Karen, It was excellent. We are already addressing the shuttle glitch LOL That was high on everyones list including the race staff. Also on the expo information as well. I will take a look at the Oranges and Water idea and see what we can come up with. It is a bit of a walk from the stadium to the Gardens to get that first drink:thumbsup2

The parkway is tough! I have run the course a few times over the past year and sections of it almost every weekend for the past 6 months. Im actully glad not to be running it for a few weeks at least. :rotfl:

Really great job everyone! That was a tough course with some humid weather. The winner of the 1/2 was so out of it from the heat that he didnt even realize he won. Really nice guy and what a run! He had never run a 1/2 before, only 5K and 10Ks!

I will echo the positive review of the race. The swag was awesome! Loved getting tickets to ColonialnWiliamsburg and to Busch Gardens. The course was well marked and well supported. Kudos to the awesome boy scouts out there too! The post race bash was also very well done. I agree signs pointing to the shuttles at the end would have been nice, but overall a great event I would do again.

Jeanne: thanks for organizing dinner!

It was great to see everyone. I did learn I should ask for late check out at the hotel well in advance, forgot about that until kind of last minute this time. We are finally starting to feel recovered from the long traffic-laden drive home and are trying to figure out our next event.
