Last month I was at Disney with my extended family and we did the Haunted Mansion. I took my 3 year old niece so I could protect her since I had been on the Haunted Mansion ride many times and knew all the scary parts.

Well, I am the one who started to freak out in the middle of the ride! Half way through the ride I saw something that I'd never seen before and it was the coolest special effect that I'd ever seen on the ride! There was a man's head that was lit up and it was floating in the air. I couldn't take my eyes off it! And the amazing thing about this effect was that the 'head' went from room to room and always stayed about 20 yards ahead of me. It moved and turned from side-to-side. I had wished that another adult was riding with me so I could point it out, but I didn't want to scare my 3 year old niece so I didn't say a word to her. I was so entranced with this floating head that I wasn't paying any attention to the rest of the ride.

Close to the end of the ride, I figured it out!!!! It didn't have anything to do with new Disney animatrontics....I noticed that it was actually a man videotaping the ride :sad2: His head was glowing because he was looking at the LCD screen of his video recorder. I only figured it out when his car turned and I could see the LCD screen myself. I was mad that he messed with my HM experience, but I also laughed at myself for being scared at something that wasn't even part of the ride.

It was a great special effect though!!!!!!

So for all you people out there that video tape the HM ride, don't use your LCD screen to watch what your taping or you may scare the pants off a little kid :) Or if you do use the LCD screen, make lots of scary faces while you're face is aglow because you are part of the HM special effects!

:rotfl2: :rotfl2: OMG! I was reading this and thinking "I can't wait till next month so I can see this myself". :rotfl2: Too funny!

I was about to ask what you were drinking before you got on, then I got excited about a new special effect, too funny.

I just came back from 2 weeks at WDW and I was thinking "I didn't see any man's head following from room to room" :confused3 You had me!! :rotfl:

THis is a good one. I'm still trying to figure out if something like this is possible.

..and what about the gullible saps who might have seen this and instead of figuring out the rational explanation would have sworn to everyone that they saw an actual ghost in HM!

Then we would hear some story of a CM or something who died and haunts the ride...then all the woo-woo crowd would tell us to keep an open mind (so open that our reason and rationality fall out) and maybe it really was a ghost...thanks for being reasonable enough to figure out that the real world explanations are better than the made up supernatural Baloney passed around the internet!

The funny thing is that this guy had the LCD screen angled in such a way that you couldn't even see his neck. He had the camera below his head and tiltled the LCD screen up so you couldn't see it but you could see the light reflecting on his face. It was kinda like when my kids go in the closet and hold the flashlight directly below their neck and their face glows in the dark. Really creepy!

you had me, :rotfl: I thought they changed the ride :rotfl2:

We were just there at the end of May and I was thinking, "I don't remember any new floating head".

I too was beginning to think that they had changed something after we had gone.

That is too funny!!! :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

rotfl2: I thought the same thing , a new animation effect at Disney!

Oh well i guess you can chalk it to a Disney magic :wizard:

I thought the same thing ! A new Disney effect how nice! :rotfl2:
Oh well i guess you can say its a little Disney magic ::MickeyMo :wizard:

Sounds just like something I would do!!! :rotfl:
Thanks for sharing the good laugh! I kept thinking - I don't remember a floating head up until the end of your post!!

Geesh you had me for a moment. I was going to bug dFiance to buy SP's again so we could go see this cool new effect... :rotfl2:
