Last month I was at Disney with my extended family and we did the Haunted Mansion. I took my 3 year old niece so I could protect her since I had been on the Haunted Mansion ride many times and knew all the scary parts.
Well, I am the one who started to freak out in the middle of the ride! Half way through the ride I saw something that I'd never seen before and it was the coolest special effect that I'd ever seen on the ride! There was a man's head that was lit up and it was floating in the air. I couldn't take my eyes off it! And the amazing thing about this effect was that the 'head' went from room to room and always stayed about 20 yards ahead of me. It moved and turned from side-to-side. I had wished that another adult was riding with me so I could point it out, but I didn't want to scare my 3 year old niece so I didn't say a word to her. I was so entranced with this floating head that I wasn't paying any attention to the rest of the ride.
Close to the end of the ride, I figured it out!!!! It didn't have anything to do with new Disney animatrontics....I noticed that it was actually a man videotaping the ride
His head was glowing because he was looking at the LCD screen of his video recorder. I only figured it out when his car turned and I could see the LCD screen myself. I was mad that he messed with my HM experience, but I also laughed at myself for being scared at something that wasn't even part of the ride.
It was a great special effect though!!!!!!
So for all you people out there that video tape the HM ride, don't use your LCD screen to watch what your taping or you may scare the pants off a little kid
Or if you do use the LCD screen, make lots of scary faces while you're face is aglow because you are part of the HM special effects!
