New Gatwick hotels

I came across these hotels this morning (both of which appear to be part of the same group as Sofitel):

The Mercure. This is a 4* within 1 mile of the airport and with shuttle service. The cheapest price for our date in November is £65 (room only), which seems pretty good.

The Arora is in Crawley town centre, but has direct access to platform 2 of the train station and is an 8 minute journey to Gatwick. This is coming in at £55 for our date.

This consolidator site is also new to me:

bluedog. The two hotels I've mentioned above aren't any cheaper than booking directly, but the Sofitel is £85 for our November date compared with £123 to book direct.

Thanks Deb

I haven't heard of the Mercure before, but we have stayed at the Arora a couple of years back.

Its a really nice hotel, very modern and we found it good being in Crawley town centre as we went out at night and found a pub to eat in, which we enjoyed more than eating at places around the airport. We would definitely stay there again if the price was right. Hoping to stay at the Sofitel again when we go on our October trip to SSR and HHI.

I've just had a look on a website called bookfhr.com and they have got pictures of the Mercure on there. It looks like it was what used to be called the Renaissance.

We've stayed there a few times before and really liked it. Its pretty convenient for the airport and the parking was actually at the hotel itself.
