Just saw a FW commercial.

It shows a family setting up a tent, riding horses, archery and then watching MK fireworks via a boat. No reference to Fort Wilderness but no doubt it's FW.
But it also shows this family on a boat tubing and swiming in the lake. I thought you couldn't swim because of some brain eating blah blah blah bacteria. Isn't that why RC was shut down in the first place? Well that and the new water parks and something about how that water needed to be chlorinated. Such a let down :(

Interesting....looks like a duck, quacks like a duck but that duck is not suppose to swim in that lake! Is this why they didn't reference FW? Or am I missing something?

I've seen that, too, and thought it was a FW commercial when it first came on. It's really just an inaccurate Disney commercial, I guess. :confused3

Oh, it's the Fort, as they reference "camping at Disney!"
Shush, Disney, I want to keep it lower key!

According to what we were told by a boat operator on the way to the MK last week, River Country was shut down due to the cost of operating it - they found that it took too many cast members to run it, and they got tired of chasing the alligators away! Not due to bacteria.. true/false? you decide.

I have been told a few times by various cast members it is due to the water. A simple google search give more detailed info on this bacteria. That and the government put in place new water regulations making it impossible to keep up with. This is the same time the two other water parks came about.

My main point was in regards to showing the kids in the water while staying at FW and this just simply isn't true. False advertising.

That's no kidding. A few years ago I was at the beach playing in the sand with my DS. He knew we couldn't swim, but asked if the water was cold. (It was August, so I really doubted it) I kicked off my sandals and walked over to the edge and put a foot in to see how hot it was. Had a CM yell at me from the dock that I can't go in the water. I was fully dressed and had my foot in for less than 10 seconds.

Guess I should be glad he was obviously looking out for our safety. :sad2:

Try Google or You Tube. You Tube probably your best chance.
"Disney Parks Commericial"
"Disney Commerical"
"Camp Disney"

If that doesn't work....

"BS false advertising Disney Parks"

Anywhere online to see this commercial?

"BS false advertising Disney Parks"

:rotfl2:

Doesn't shock me given that their attraction commercials are always "enhanced"...I remember way back when TOT was new thinking that they'd drop you just standing in an elevator like the commercial showed :lmao:

Sorry to rain on everyone's parade but there is no false advertising. :(

You are allowed to go into the water at WDW. Its not like its acid. You are just not allowed to swim near the beach. I think the amoeba lives only in mud in warm water so its only around the warmer months and also its a very narrow temp range such as you get in 18" of water. Water that people would wade in and kick up the mud.

Things like the triathlon are not in these warm months and not sure but they may go in and out in areas where the floor of the lake is paved.

Oh and here is what they were doing.

https://disneyworld.disney.go.com/recreation/contemporary-resort/tubing/

You can also wake board and water ski both where you have to start in the water and will dump you into the water.

The reason they may not say Fort Wilderness is because it wasn't a Fort Wilderness commercial. Its part of their "Firsts" campaign. Also the title of the video is First Camping Trip | The Campsites at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort

So nothing to see here just move along and get back to Golf Cart rule breaker threads. :)

Or soaring in your own 4 person hang glider.

Just so everyone doesn't think I'm some sort of Disney Apologist.

My favorite bit of Disney False advertising is the grass M&G. You know the one where you are walking along and just happen to run into Cinderella just waiting to give you a big hug. The reason I say its a grass M&G is that its usually done away from the crowds in some grassy area that guests are not allowed into.

Not like the real world.

About RC, the amoeba was on the list of reasons but a little bit down the list. The bigger issues was it was a poorly designed WP compared to today's parks, it was small and it its now in far off corner of the World.

When it opened there was only the MK, Poly, Contemporary, FW, RC and Discovery Island. Now its about as far as you can get away for most of the resorts and you had to take two buses or a bus then boat to get to it.

1) What?
2) You mean it doesn't happen this way?

:cool1:

Well, the Fairy God Mother did sort of kidnap our DD!

I was thinking the tubing looked cool (if I could get past the idea of the amoeba) until I saw the price. :scared1: I couldn't find one of the fainting smilies!

After that they went on a fireworks cruise...are you putting a price limit on making family memories??? *que sad faces and violin music*

I remember that! i really thought we would be standing in TOT! that was a recurring nightmare of mine years before it was built.

So it was a water park and a petting zoo!? How cool is that?

Imagine sliding off, landing in the pool and right on top of a sunning oversized lizard...with teeth...

The possibilities are endless...

We've been going to The Fort since early nineties. There are two issues pertaining to the water. There is no bacteria problem if there was nothing would be allowed.

River Country was shut down for purely economic reasons. Once the other water parks started opening. They took a major draw away from River Country, the only people that were using it were basically the campers and it was costing so much to run it between cast members and maintenance they shut it down. It will never open up for the same reasons. My bet at some point down the road it will become a location for a DVC.

As far as swimming and recreation in it, it comes down to safety, they cannot employ enough people to ensure complete safety. The hazards being weeds, alligators and non capable swimmers. Any activity you see is eyes on between shore patrol and life guards. They cannot watch everything and alligators are usually shore dwellers and hide very easily in grassy and shallow waters.

The amoeba is very real.

It lives in the shallows of lakes and ponds, but as I posted I do agree its not the main reason they closed RC. Though not having CM's to patrol is a side benefit.

If you listen to the Podcast here they always close the show with this warning. "Stay out of the dam lakes".
