We just moved to Florida from NY. We've gone to Disney twice before and stayed on property. Now we have annual passes and have been told its cheaper to stay off site - the flip side is you won't get the disney resort perks. Any suggestions as to what is better??

try both? since you already will have a car... use of transportation probably won't factor in much. Semi regular trips mean EMH probably is not a factor. I guess it comes down to budget... but there are a lot of AP room rates, and Florida resident room rate offers that might make it attractive to stay onsite anyway.

How do you like it so far? We are moving to Palm Beach from Texas in July.

Have you driven to WDW yet? How long did it take?

I agree, try both!! We just went last week and stayed off property in a 3 bedroom condo for $89 a night. Great deal I thought!

Welcome!! Yeah, why not try both? Since you're close by, you have the "luxury" of trying different things more often, and not have the same "major" transportation cost as you once did to factor into the equation limiting you to a once a year trip... we loved that when we lived 10 min. from DL !! Flexibility. Have fun. I'd love to live close by, but DW doesn't feel the same way. :sad2:

We have APs and do both. If we're going for a special event like MNSSHP or MVMCP then we definitely stay on property b/c it's easier. However, if we're going to US/IOA or a convention or just bumming around we'll stay at whatever is cheaper on or off property. Just explore the area since you'll have a car. It's a lot of fun and you'll develop your own taste for what you like best.

I love it here! I am a born native New Yorker, and I thought I would hate it here, but it is so nice. The driving takes a little getting used to-its busier here November to April (snowbird season-all the older people from the north come here for a milder winter). Its perfect weather, fun times-and if i miss the city its a 2 hours flight for a weekend. Being a Florida resident has great perks-discounted park tickets, discounted last minute cruises. Palm Beach is 2 1/2 hours south or Orlando, 2 1/2 hours North of the Florida Keys, and 2 1/2 hours from the west coast-prime location. Best of Luck-you'll love it here! Thank you for all your great tips. Our neighbors told us about priceline-we got a 2 bedroom suite with a kitch in the hilton for $40.00/night-we'll stay off this trip....we are 2 1/2 hours from disney, and we're pretty excited. We are going up on the 25th!

Don't forget you now qualify for Florida Resident rates at WDW resorts - sometimes if AP deals are sold out, FL Res are open and vice-versa. Though it will be mighty tough to beat your $40 Hilton deal :goodvibes
