New flooring in rooms - No carpets

Am I the only one that doesn't care for this? We stayed at CSR last year and had a refurb room. Loved the look, but honestly, hated having the hard flooring rather than carpet. Looks dirty quicker, dust floats around, and not nearly as nice on bare feet in the middle of the night, lol. I realize it probably holds up better and is easier to maintain and repair, but we definitely prefer the carpets.

I love the lack of carpeting. It's much easier to clean any spills DS2.5 might make, I do not sneeze every time I go in the room, and doesn't look nearly as dirty to me as carpeting does. We stayed at POR and SSR (both carpeted) and that carpeting never looked clean and was rippled up off the floor in some places (just begging to be tripped over in the middle of the night). Staying at BC and Pop with no carpeting the room felt so much nicer and cleaner. I would much rather see the dirt on the floor (and I can have it addressed by housekeeping if it needs it) than whatever is hidden in those carpets.

On my cousin's last trip, her daughter was potty training. She peed on the carpet before my cousin could get her to the toilet. My cousin called housekeeping and they told her it was fine and to leave it. She used some paper towels to mop it up as best as she could. How do we know they ever treated that spot, especially when they had no way of knowing where it was? No thanks to carpeting after that for me!

I imagine it’s quicker to wet dustmop the laminate than vacuum the rugs.

I remember reading complaints at Pop that guests’ feet and socks were dirty from walking on the laminate. I can imagine a higher buildup on laminate in values and mods where people are taking the gift card for turning down housekeeping for a longish stay. Likely that a quick swiffer type sweep wouldn’t be very effective cleaning.

not what you want to hear but the hard flooring helps people with allergies as things don't stay in carpets. guessing all the deep cleans are having something to do with this change

I wouldn’t have stood for that, if not for myself, then for the next guests coming into the room. I would have insisted it be cleaned, that’s gross to leave it.

That makes sense.

I like carpeting, have never considered putting hardwood in at home. We usually stay at YC & I love the look of their remodeled rooms. In December ‘17 we were at CBR. They had started the construction there already. I made the mistake of walking across the carpeted floor in my white socks one night. They were so disgustingly dirty, I actually had to throw them out. They were so stained, I could not get them clean. It really made me understand the complaints about carpeting in hotels. A least in the hotels with inside hallways, some of the dirt on shoes gets “deposited” before the guest gets in the room. But at values or moderates, you walk right into the room with all the dirt & dust & drag it right into the carpet. And I’m sure the housekeeping standards have gone downhill over the years as Disney has strived to pinch every penny. An occasional vacuuming is not going to get those rugs clean. My socks might get a little dirty on the YC’s new floors, but nothing like I experienced at CBR.

That CBR stay really made me appreciate the new laminates at YC. However, there have been reports of scratches & wear showing on the YC floors in less than 2 years of use. When we were at YC last month, they were replacing flooring in a room near ours. Makes me wonder what will happen if these new floors don’t hold up as well as carpeting. Disney has gotten away with not replacing carpeting for up to 10 years between rehabs. I’m sure they won’t want to start replacing laminate every 2 -3 years.

Agreed. She asked "leave it for now, you mean? Someone will treat it?" and they assured her they would. She offered to treat it herself if they had some carpet cleaner and again they told her someone would be up to take care of it. It's entirely possible someone came up, saw where it was, and cleaned it and it dried before she returned but in reality, we don't have any real confirmation that it was cleaned beyond my cousin mopping it up with paper towels. I probably would not have left before someone came to clean it (I'm sure the restaurant would have understood her being late for or missing the ADR she had scheduled) but they also couldn't tell her about how long that might take and kept reassuring her it was fine.

I think the problem at Disney resorts is high traffic and lower quality flooring coupled with inadequate maintenance. I agree this combination will result in early floor replacement being desirable but who knows if Disney will see it that way.

Maintenance and frequent cleaning makes all the difference in the life of any type of flooring.

I prefer the new flooring for the most part. The only issues I've had is they do get slippery when wet. I stayed in a room at Pop once and when it rained, the water practically poured into the room and that caused it to get slippery. Plus when spraying sunscreen in the room it leaves slippery residue on the floors (I learned quickly and sprayed outside after one time, but I imagine there are a lot of families that still spray inside their room). I never had an issue where my feet felt gross after walking on the new floors, but with carpets they usually did.
