New Fare display at Continental

I was very excited that a fare had dropped at Continental... until I clicked on the reserve button, then it shows you the additional fees and taxes And actually it went up $10!!!

So I just happened to look at the news on the hompage where it announces it. I have to say that was one of the things I loved about Continental online was that you got the whole price right away.

So be aware when you are checking fares.

I think they just are now splitting out the fees on the site rather than giving it all to you at one time.

But I bet it is the fuel surcharge and it is easier to adjust those fees on a whim rather than the whole fare.

For the first time I will be using USA 3000 as I will save $100 per ticket!

They also just raised fares on most flights - the amount varies between $2 and $5 per segment. Delta and a few other carriers just did the same thing. It's due to the ever increasing price for jet fuel.

I've also read that someof the older "legacy" carriers are changing their displays to only show the actual fare (without taxes and fees). Apparently, it's to compete with some of the discount carriers who advertise their fares that way.

If it were up to me, all airlines would be required to display the complete amount the consumer has to pay - including fees and taxes. It is very hard to compairsion shop when everyone does it a little differently. Plus, IMHO, the taxes and fees are impossible to understand!
