I was thinking back to this spring and we were debating on joining our local swimming club again for the summer and I remember thinking we were in for a hot dry one since last summer had so many cold/rainy days. we joined and are so happy we did...definitely got our money's worth!

now we are talking about winter and wondering what it will bring. any thoughts? last winter we got some snow, but seemed like so many of the bigger storms stayed south of us. my poor parents/sisters in VA/MD got slammed! we weren't let off scott free, of course. am not sure what I think this winter will bring...any thoughts?

I'm in Ma also and I could be wrong with all the talk of global warming and such. But I do remember winters being much more brutal when I was younger. I also remember hot summers meant extra cold winters. Mild summers meant mild winters. So if this is true break out the sweaters and coats. Can't wait to break in new gas fireplace.

Hi! I am from MA but moved to SoCal (job) two years ago! I watch all the weather reports from the east as well as hear from all my family and friends still in New England. I think they all said this past winter was not much snow BUT the brutal cold temps were nasty.

I hope you all have a milder winter than the last two! Everyone loves coming here to visit me in the winter months! :sunny:

I am hoping for a mild winter. I despise the freezing cold temps. Last winter wasn't too bad overall.

momreko6~ My DS moved to SD last October and was married to a SD girl this past July. They met in college here in MA but she never wanted to live here so off they went once she graduated. We were in SD for 2 weeks in July for the wedding and for a vacation enjoying the beautiful weather. He is a SD police officer and is enjoying his new state.

We got off very easy last year on the snow although we had some bitterly cold days. I don't know if it my imagination but a milder winter always seems to be followed by an absolute stinker!

We were in the area hit really badly by the ice storm of 2008 (Rt 2 and 495 region) so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that this year is better and what I just said is totally incorrect! It will be a mild winter!

I am praying it will be cold to make up for this summer that felt like we were in Hades. I am usually a summer girl through and through, but I just cant take this anymore. Between the allergies, 100+ temps with insane humidity, and my a/c still on in late September, i'm ready to move to Alaska!

I'm thinking (or maybe just wishful thinking) that we won't have much snow again this winter.. (That means I can come back to the lake sooner..LOL..) ;)

Temps? I don't know.. I'm wishy-washy about that.. I would prefer not to have any ice storms though.. Those are the worst!

Anyone seen the Farmers Almanac?

yep, we got hit by that winter of ice storms, too. it was insane! limbs and branches weren't cleared up until late spring it was so bad. there were a couple of bad ice storms but the one in december that was really bad had us wondering whether or not to risk staying in the house and praying the power would come back on overnight, or heading to a hotel. I just remember piling blanket after blanket on my kids and watching them like hawks. thankfully we were lucky in that our power came on again. I still feel for those poor folks who were out for ages!

as for this year, I just keep going back and forth as to what I think it will be. I'm just praying for no ice!

we were out for a week!! thank goodness for the pellet stove and the generator.
we would have had to go to a hotel which I didn't want to do because of all our pets , I just couldn't leave them behind

oooh, patricia, that would be nice! my dh is looking forward to winter, he is so sick of the heat this year, but mild is still sweater/jacket weather, so I think he'd be fine if that is the case!

curious, did farmers almanac correctly predict the hot dry summer?

I think we'll have below zero, 50 degrees, 3 feet of snow, hail, sleet, pouring rain, high winds, sunny days, melting, freezing and freezing rain. And that will explain just the first two weeks of January.:rotfl2:

Last winter was all over the place in southern Vermont where I spent most of the winter. Nobody is going to tell me that it was a mild winter, I had 4 feet of snow in 5 days and the plow guy refused to even TRY to plow me out of my driveway until he got the payloader to come in.

The only sure thing in the winter in New England is that we'll have some of everything.
