New DVC'rrr with a question

Hi all - Longtime Dis'r...new DVC'rrr . We just bought at BLT last month

Dh and I were not planning on going to WDW in 2009 as we are doing a 7 day Magic Cruise instead in September but in talking this week, we figured heck we have some points lets check on going down in March so we called MS today.

We are in UY February, which means our points deposit Feb 1 for 2009. We were told that we can't book anything with our points until Sept 1 when BLT opens. This absolutely makes no sense to us. We can't go to WDW Sept -Dec next year. We thought we could start visits with Feb 09, We paid a deposit and have started making our monthly mortgage payments so why can't we use our points that are deposited in our account. This would mean that DVC will have our deposit plus 11 months payments before we can use our points. What are we missing here?

I understand BLT isn't open in March (when we want to go), we didn't even mention BLT as we wanted to stay at OKW.

We wanted to email our salesperson today but her business card does not have an email address on it. Does anyone know the format Disney uses for email so we can email her?

Advise or knowledge anyone?

Actually it does make sense. Lets say a week before BLT was to open something happened and it never did. You would not be a member of the DVC and would not be able to use your points at all. Disney will allow you to make reservations under the rules but those reservations must be to use after the date that your UNIT opens. Even if the resort opened but you're unit didn't, you couldn't use them yet. Disney discourages the guides from using email, too many risks on their part. Most receive them and a few will send them to long term clients. Mine calls me when I email her.

DVC keeps a balance between the points the members own vs the rooms that are available to book. If you were allowed to stay at a DVC before BLT opens, that would tip the balance for points being used vs rooms available. There is not an equivalent BLT room available in March.

You are not paying dues until September 09, correct? So you should not get a full year of DVC use.

Anytime you use your points somewhere other than your home resort, it's an exchange. But to do an exchange to, say, BCV...you are trading your BLT points for BCV points. You get to stay in BCV, but there's no BLT room available for a BCV member to use. So there's nothing to actually exchange.

For us, that what one of the advantages to purchasing at AKV Kidani..
Developer Points....

We received the same number of points as points purchased in "Developer Points" which was in lieu of using AKV Kidani since it didn't open until May 1st...That was important to us since we were paying for it in 08 and didn't want to wait until after May 1st to use our points....

Developer points are a bonus incentive to increase slow sales. I think that developer points/immediate use points are a newer incentive in the history of DVC sales.
At this point, DVC has no reason to offer more BLT incentives, because BLT is selling good enough.

It should be possible to find another DVC resort owner that would be willing to trade point rents (They book your March stay in your name, then you book their September-December BLT stay in their name) The issue is really complicated because you need your reservation made now, and you cannot make the BLT reservation until May, so this transaction would require a ton of trust on both sides. I'd almost like to do it, but think the uncertainty would drive me nuts.
