New DVC resort at Contemporary?

I saw over at the MouseFunFacts forum that DVC may be building next resort at the Contemporary, replacing one of the existing buildings with a DVC structure.

I haven't heard this before, and wonder if there is any truth to it??!!

The possibility has been speculated on with fair regularity. Personally I don't see this coming about anytime soon unless sales at SSR absolutely explode. It's also dependant on the Contemp remaining a relatively under used "delux" resort.

I love this avenue of thought! This idea does surface on a regular basis. I'd be willing to speculate that just as the VWL & BCV projects were built time-wise between major DVC projects, other deluxe (possibly moderate) resorts will have DVC elements added before Eagle Pines is built.

My friend works down at WDW in the DVC department and he has informed me that they are planning to have a monorail DVC resort within 10 years. His sources are good, but you know how Disney rumors go...ya never know!

Anyways, he said they are considering 3 places. If I remember correctly, one was to add-on to one of the existing monorail resorts already, one was to build on the monorail between EPCOT and MK (I think this would be COOL), or to build a new resort somewhere on the existing MK monorail section (I wasn't clear where).

I do hope it happens someday. I would buy FOR SURE!!!

between Epcot and the MK - does mean on the Epcot monrail - that I have long wanted - GREAT!!!!

however if that means close to the T/T then I would rather have it at the Polyn....

but I don't think that is likely....

However as I have say before of all the MK monrails resorts - the most likely candiate is still the Cont - I know not my favorite - but WDW is going to put the DVC where it will help THEM - not DVC....or us.

I asked on my last tour - the sales person (not my guide) and they say - this is a rumor on the websites - they haven't heard anything.....

DI came as a surprise to DVC so we can only HOPE for another one.

I received the same information back in September 03, from a person we have become frendly with who holds a Management roll at the Contempory. No timing was given but they are presently working on the plans.

Not to add to the rumor mill, but I will.

I was talking about this with my DVC sales rep that took care of me last month for a new membership.

He said he couldn't tell me which was going to be done next, but he smiled, nodded and winked when I mentioned the Contemporary AND the Grand Floridian.

Both make perfect sense.

The Contemporary, as already discussed, has existing wings that can be used as a base, and the Grand Floridian has space to its immediate west.

I agree. It sounds Grand even.

Even at the Contemporary, that is some fabulous location. However, as Disney rumors go, I can't believe anything until they break ground!
