Got a notice in my email that included this info. Details on DVC site.

Enjoy new perk from Disney on Broadway

Disney on Broadway has created a special opportunity for Disney Vacation Club Members to enjoy Disney magic in the heart of New York City this winter. Beginning Nov. 9, Members may purchase a ticket to select Broadway performances of Mary Poppins, The Lion King or The Little Mermaid and get a second ticket free.

Oh wow how exciting! I saw the Lion King on Broadway in Chicago when it opened a few years back and it was AWESOME! I have wanted to go back since....I will be ordering my tickets! There is a show on my birthday in Jan so it just might be a B-day treat to myself!

Have been planning to take DD to see The Little Mermaid so we will definately be taking advantage of this! :thumbsup2

Oh, nice! Saw Lion King in NYC and Mary Poppins in London. Highly recommend both!

I am so excited about this! We have been dying to take the kids to see the Little Mermaid! We will definitely be taking advantage of this offer.

We're so excited about this offer.:woohoo: :dance3: We haven't had the chance to see any of those shows on Broadway. Last year we had tkts for The Little Mermaid and then they went on strike. What a disappointment that was. You can imagine how happy I was to see that e-mail. This offer is a dream come true and way too good to pass up.

(OK... It's my job to be contrare sometimes so here goes. Flame suit on.)

I'm certainly surprised and actually glad to see so many of you so excited about this new perk. I put "perk" in italics to emphasize the fact that while it may be considered by some to be such, I'm sure there are a number of us yawning over this announcement.

I love a good broadway show, especially musicals; as much as the next person and have seen more than my share.

Personally, I think it's a s-t-r-e-t-c-h for DVD to have the audacity to call something such as this a perk when there are thousands of things that they could do for us, little things; at the parks and resorts that would cost them less and benefit a much greater number of us. I don't choose to vacation in NYC. That's why I bought DVC. No NYC.

I'm sorry but thumbs down on this one for me. I wait months on end to see something of value added for us as owners (not that I necessarily have a right to expect anything and I know that) and this is what we get? Boo. :confused3 Guess I'm stuck waiting to see what the next one will be, if any.

You are entitled to your opinion. I disagree.

I live close to, love, and visit NYC often so it's a very welcome perk for me. Like many of you I'm looking forward to seeing Little Mermaid.

It's like any other perk. If you can use it, it's great. If you can't, it stinks.

Thank you very much for posting this information. I would love to take advantage of this!

I like the idea of this great deal, but living here in Michigan, I am not going to NYC any time soon to see any Broadway shows.:upsidedow

I agree that, for some, this is a great perk. For others, it's really nothing. Kind of like having free valet parking when you don't have a car:rotfl: . I would love to see some other DVC perks around the parks like discounts on photopass, stroller rental or even "members only" viewing areas for parades and shows. It seems like "perks" available in the parks and resorts would have a broader-based appeal than "off-site" discounts.

Just my two cents.....

There are always going to be perks that make some happy and others mad, I think as long as they are still giving perks we should all be happy. DVC sells without any help, they don't have to offer any perks and we will still buy because of the great deal it is so lets be happy for those that can use it.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and I respect all but how can folks be upset or disappointed if the 'perk' does not work for them. We are a diverse group of folks who belong to DVC and live all around the world...there is no way any perk is going to helpful to all.

No need to get upset, perks don't cost you anything. Use them and enjoy them if they apply to you but if not...no big deal. Another one will come along and that one may help you but not me...that is the beauty of a perk,

I like to see things offered outside of the parks all the time. I love being a DVC member but love doing 'other' Disney stuff other than going to FL or CA. I live in OH so I may not even use the Broadway perk who knows but love the fact that DVC is spreading their wings and thinking beyond the parks!

I will keep reading and enjoying all of your comments...:surfweb:

DH and I are going to NYC for my spring break and just last week bought tickets to "Mary Poppins." I was excited when I saw this announcement, thinking maybe we could also go to "The Little Mermaid", but the deal expires before we arrive...nuts!! :sad1: Oh well, maybe another time!

I wouldn't so much call that a perk as a "Holy crap, the advance on our shows is dwindling to nothing!" Looks like Mary Poppins is currently playing at 59% capacity, which means that it's most likely breaking even, but not by much. Lion King, the Old Faithful of Disney shows, is doing better at 85%, which, after a decade, isn't terrible. It's making $900k+ a week, so it should be fine to hang on for a while. And Little Mermaid's at 63%. I would bet that Disney keeps all three open through the holidays, then closes either Mary Poppins or Little Mermaid (or both?) in January, which is when ticket sales traditionally plummet. If they're twofering and/or papering now, during what is one of the peak seasons for Broadway, they know there's trouble ahead. (Note -- this isn't unique to Disney's shows, all of Broadway's suffering at the moment.) It's hard to say which of those two they'd close first -- Mary Poppins is making less money, but is in a house (New Amsterdam) that Disney owns. Little Mermaid is at the Lunt-Fontanne, which it does not. It wouldn't surprise me if Disney closed MP, and then put the cheaper-to-run and WAY easier to sell High School Musical at the New Amsterdam. But don't expect this perk to extend to that.

The point in all of this is that if you anticipate taking advantage of this perk, you're going to want to do it sooner rather than later, because I don't see it lasting very long.

this is great in theory, but the two-fer tickets they're selling are for January/February -specific shows only
we live on Long Island, but aren't exactly thrilled with the "perk" either
Would have preferred something closer to "home"
and yes, perks DO cost us something - they are negotiated and paid for through our dues.

Have been planning to take DD to see The Little Mermaid so we will definately be taking advantage of this! :thumbsup2

i was planning to take DD last Thanksgiving when it opened...too expensive...but with a free ticket I aim for late this year or early 2009
