Hi all

After years of talking about it, we made the decision to jump in and have contracted to by 150 pts at Saratoga Springs!!!

So, now I've got questions for you seasoned DVC members....if you don't mind :goodvibes

Our contract comes with 300 pts stocked up and our new 150 pts come up in December. We would like to book a 2 bedroom villa before December, which looking at the charts I think would still leave us 20 pts before the new ones come in December. I would really, really love to see my brother and his family take a trip. They've never been, planned for this year, and then they had some financial issues. So I'd like to treat them.

Can I dip into the next years points before December to add it to what I have left over from our trip so that they could get aweek in a studio? Do I need to actually have the points before I make a reservation?

Also, I'm interested in getting APs. My daughter is currently 9yrs old, but would turn 10 before we got to WDW. Can you buy APs now and activate them when we get to WDW? Would I buy her a kid pass or would I need to buy her an adult one?

Thanks!!! We are soooo excited to finally get into DVC!!!

Welcome and conggratulations!

You should be able to borrow next year's point with no problem. Unfortunately, the just changed the deal on APs and they're active for one year from time of purchase. Suggest you wait until you get there so you don't lose time in your year.

Yes, you can borrow the next year's points at any time, but you can't "unborrow", so if you had to cancel the booking, you can't move them back into the next year... unless you're still within the banking time to bank them. Try to search for threads on banking and borrowing for how it all works. Enjoy!!!

When did they that? It has always been from time of first use...

This might be in error. My understanding is that you cannot bank points borrowed from a future year. Once points are moved (either banked or borrowed) into a different year, they remain in that year permanently.

Some examples ...

I bank 2011's points into 2012. I make a reservation in 2012 that uses both years worth of points, but then I cancel the reservation. I can bank 2012's points into 2013, but the points banked from 2011 are stuck in 2012.

I borrow from 2013 to make a reservation in 2012 using 2012 and 2013's points. I then cancel that reservation. I can bank my 2012 points into 2013, but the points that originated in 2013 are now stuck in 2012. (Semantically, this is similar to what you said, but it's important to note that the banked points are the current year's points, and not the future year.)

I'm confused :confused3

I just looked at the WDW official site and it says that if you order an AP, they send you a voucher and you activate it when you get there....so Do APs on the DVC work different? Where do you order them from? I didn't see a DVC option on the website. I'd like to start buying APs as soon as our DVC closes so I can spread out the expense.

Also, if DD is 9 when I buy and she turns 10 before I activate (depending on when we go...) do I buy a kid AP or an Adult AP...obviously, I'd like to get a kid one if that's ok

Can the APs be encoded on our KTTW?

I've heard that DVC owners can pick and choose what nights to do dining plan (we don't have to get dining plan for the entire stay)....and that we can do some nights as Quick Service and some as the regular one....is this right?

Sorry for all the newbie questions!!! :worship:

First of all, Welcome Home! As to the DDP, they no longer allow segmented ddp, so you do have to purchase it for your entire length of stay or not at all. You can also make more than one reservation, with one ressie including the ddp and the other w/o and ask that they be linked so you don't have to change rooms. There is no guarantee that they won't make you move, but it's a hassle for everyone so as long as you have the same resort and room type, you're likely to stay put. You could also do a split stay, if available, and thus split your ddp that way. I hope you have many wonderful vacations ahead of you!---Kathy
