New Dumbo spinner has been installed!

Its nice to finally see it all come together, its looking like its going to be great! Thanks for the share!

Its nice to see it starting to take shape. Bah on the two Dumbos.. one of those is enough.

...I think the reason for two is the massive lines that Dumbo has attracted...its just a very low capacity ride for the amount of guests that want to ride it....notice how many other spinners Disney has now, 2 others in MK and one in AK

I'm very surprised they didn't put the tent style roofs over the rides! That would make them cooler to ride in the summer and make them much more attractive to ride when it's raining. Obviously it would keep in line with the theming of the area.

Its been ages since I've seen the movie Dumbo...does he fly in one of the circus tents?

Anyway, I agree, I think its a great idea.

Cant wait to see all the new stuff when we go in Oct and next Dec :)

Why? Seriously, what is the attraction? Do you have toddlers? New Dumbo's? Really? I mean Pottorland was at least innovative but what about this, aside from nice theming, could be exciting or enticing about any of this underwhelming new area?

Shouldn't people demand innovation? Does no one care that mediocrity is passing as quality because we let it? Wal-mart is not the ultimate goal, is it?

Ooooo, I'm so excited to see the new Beauty an the Beast meet and greet ... Ohhhh my!

When this was first announced, it was a dog. I'm cautiously optimistic about the Snow White coaster, though.

The Dumbo thing is beyond ridiculous. It's the opposite of a big deal -- part of the appeal of Dumbo now is that it's right behind the castle. Off in a corner of the park, I don't think it has even remotely the same charm. Once moved, it won't have the same nostalgia value either.

OP:Which ride first?

NP:Do you have small children?

OP:Yes

NP:Then Dumbo because it will get a long wait for most of the day and doesn't have FP like Peter Pan.

This is why they need the double sprinner it's popular. For everyone else the big deal will be the new queue.

Exactly I'm not sure why people have a problem with this.

My only thing is a wish they took it a step further and stacked them. A triple Decker Dumbo where each level spins in the opposite of each other. Something like this would look stunning.

Anyway again not sure why people don't get the need for this?

Long ago on these boards, as I recall it, someone (it may have been Another Voice) insightfully noted that the purpose behind a Dumbo attraction should properly be that we go flying with Dumbo. It's not supposed to be a fancy, glorified carnival attraction which happens to have a Dumbo theme.

With the available technology and budget of the mid-1950's a rotating Dumbo spinner was a reasonable interpretation of soaring with a flying elephant. While I certainly don't have a problem with the attraction as it exists, in 2011 an attraction which takes guests on a flight with Dumbo could be so much more than just a spinner. Today Disney could build a far better, more convincing and more "magical" (for lack of a better word) Dumbo attraction than obviously fake elephants on poles going around in circles. It's almost like we have lost sight of what an attraction is supposed to be - not a ride vehicle themed to whatever you want, but rather an experience which tells a story or showcases events - with the ride mechanism just being the vehicle which takes you through the attraction.

Again, while there is no problem with Dumbo specifically, if you are spending money to rebuild the attraction, you could do so much more than merely recreate the ride. I have no doubt that many would plead for the original to be retained for nostalgia sake, and they make a valid point (its a Magic Kingdom classic), but instead of doubling the spinner - why not strive for something more innovative.

if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

the ride's loved by thousands upon thousands of kids, why would you revamp it? :confused3

Besides what I mentioned what else could you do? I'm not saying you said this but not everything needs to be an amazing Eric or a dark ride.

I agree in principle with what you're saying, but for 50 years, Disney fans have come to expect Dumbo in its current form, no matter which Disneyland/MK style park there is in the world.

If Disney fans aren't expecting anything greater and would be happy with what has already been done, I don't see the Disney company going out of their way to change it, especially since they have other bigger projects they're doing.

I believe Disney said it was the most popular(ridden) ride at WDW. I think it is fine for them to double it for that reason alone. I'm just worried that when they move it, it won't be nearly as popular.
I will agree that a new attraction/experience would have been more original on Disney's part but at least the old single spinner should be kept no matter what. A new attraction would have taken up a whole lot more space than a dueling spinner though. However they seem to have a lot of space in Circus Land and don't seem to be doing much with it.
While I'm not big on the whole circus theme, for the new land, I do like the idea of an expanded Dumbo experience. It is a classic Disney film that I am found of so it's nice to see it get a little love.
I just think a little miniland ambience around the Dumbo ride would have been enough for me. I cringe at the thought of the old Toon Town being an entire Circus themed land. I think that area is just destined to ba a failure...

It's funny how when Disney pulls a classic ride out - they get bashed for it.

Then - instead of pulling a popular ride out, they double the capacity of it and create a new queue to make the line shorter....and people bash them for it.

I suppose it is good they mostly ignore us on the internet. Could'nt please us if they tried.

I do agree that a portion of the appeal of Dumbo is the view of FL and the castle, and if the view is lousy over in the corner, it will be a downgrade. However, without my DD to ride it, I would never ever wait in line for Dumbo anyways. I think the move is just fine.

BTW - we were just there and when riding the train you could see the spinner through the scrim. I was surprised how see-through it was. Looking over the wall on Dumbo was amazing. There were about 200 workers toiling away back there on the various projects, and you couldn't see a single one of them from the ground.
