Looking for some advice.

My daughter got a new DSi XL for Christmas, and it won't charge. I don't know if it is the charger itself that is bad (in which case I'd just buy another charger), or if it's the unit itself, in which case I'll try a return (even though I don't have the original packaging anymore!).

Has anyone had any issues with these? Any advice?

Thanks!

If you just bought this DS I would just take it back. You shouldn't have to buy a new charger with it being so new imo. If you have problems taking it back contact Nintendo, they are usually extremely good about warranty issues. Good luck!

Contact Nintendo. You will have to send it in, but they will send a prepaid label. We have had great service from them in the past... had a DS stop charging when it was just under a year old and sent it in and they sent us back a new one.

Where did you buy it? My nephew got one from Gamestop and the same thing happened. They replaced the unit with a new one for them.

If you know someone else who has a DSi, ask if you can try charging it with their charger so you can diagnose the problem. Actually, your local Gamestop or other used game store might also be happy to help with that. Ours has helped us out with similar problems in the past. If you can figure out if the charger or the DSi is the problem, it will make it easier when you're trying to get the issue resolved.

Did you buy it new? If so, I agree with a previous poster - contact Nintendo and explain the problem. They will help. If you bought it used, take it back to where you got it.

And (not fussing at you, OP, since this is something we all need to remember!) always keep the packaging of new electronics until you've tried all the functions and you're sure it works. Problems like this are much easier to deal with when you have all the original packaging.

Thanks all, OP here. I got it at Target. I think I'll try contacting Nintendo first. I've never had to do this!

I hear you about keeping original packaging - I always DO do that, but it was working fine! We even charged it up a few times (since it has gotten a lot of use!), but suddenly it no longer is.

Hopefully Nintendo will be easy to work with....if not, Target here I come!

Had that happen with the first DSI XL we purchased. The charger did not work. Contacted Nintendo and they sent a new one and at the time said it was a common problem they were having.
