New Dress Code

I don't care WHAT they finally decided as long at they enforce the policy they have! It seemed to me it was so unfair that one family spends the money, follows their "rules" and then sits down at a table next to someone that couldn't be bothered. This should go a long way toward solving that

One of the reasons my husband keeps going on the Disney Magic is because of their lax dress codes. We have been on two other cruise lines and he likes the DCL dress policy the best. We both have to wear business clothes at work at he feels if he is on vacation he should be able to wear what he wants. He will not wear jeans to dinner but is very casually dressed in a pair of Dockers and a polo type shirt except for the two formal nights. Really, why should anyone get worked up about how someone else dresses? To some, dressing up might be a rare occasion and I say go for it, but really, it does not matter how one is dressed. Go with what make you comfortable.

I Do hope that Disney still enforce the dress code for dining. You certainly cannot sit down to a nice dinner in such casual wear I think. Do not dress up much at home and have all our gear sorted for October and if jeans are to be allowed our dress will be really over the top. Hope this gets clarified soon. Think all cruise ships have this dress code and surely just for dinner is not too big a deal to dress up for.

I have sailed the Magic four times and most men are not dressed up except for formal nights. Most have on either Dockers or chino pants and a button shirt or polo shirt. Sure a few men were a coat and tie to each meal but most dress casually. So do the ladies, most wear skorts, Capri pants, or a sundress.

On almost all of my cruises I packedthe dress up clothes. As I would look around the dining rooms I noticed the Guests getting a little more casual each cruise. It does not surprise me that DCL has changed the policy to allow jeans.

It is really all how you want to experience your vacation. For some its casual for others its dress up time. Personally I want to spend more time out of my stateroom vs in it changing clothes, ect.

I don'tthink Disney can really uphold the policy 100%. What about the families who's luggage is lost and may only have a change ogf clothes that they had in their carryone? Do you expect them not to be able to eat in the main dining rooms?

And to follow up I'm just curious what if it were you or a member of your family that left something important at home, dress shoes or slacks, ect by mistake or lost your luggage during travel? If it were me and I was told I could go into the main dining room with my family?Oh yeah I'd be in line at Guest Services real quick and manyof you would be too!

Last year on our wonder cruise, DD and I wore dresses to dinner, the DH wore dockers and a nice shirt. We didn't feel out of place. This time we will do the same but I am going to wear jean skirts to lunch. I love to get dressed up as does DD. The DH does what I tell him. :rotfl:

Not trying to take sides on the issue, but your example are things out of peoples control, not people knowing ahead of time what the dress codes are and not following them because they think they don't have to follow the code.
From your example above, yes I would be in line at GS too.

Sheesh another Dress Code Thread :)
Get out the popcorn and watch folks go ballistic about what others are wearing :)
Worry about YOURSELVES. Someone's tshirt or shorts shouldn't make an iota of difference as to how you enjoy your meal. If it does you have greater issues than this :)

To an extent, I can sympathize with that, and I certainly can appreciate the feelings of those who feel that "hey, I'm on vacation, and part of being on vacation is wearing what I want to wear."

On the other hand, however, the tradition of duding-up for dinner on cruises is well-established, and I think it's a matter of courtesy to fellow cruisers to acknowledge the dress code. I don't think my mother, for example, needs to be labeled as "having issues" simply because she enjoys parties and events where people dress to a certain standard. My enjoyment of a masquerade party would certainly be diminished if I were the only one who showed up in a costume: part of the enjoyment of the event is seeing others who have taken the time to be creative with their appearance: I think the same goes for situations where everyone is expected to wash behind the ears and put on something at least "resort casual" for a dinner for two hours in the evening.

Dinner on a cruise is meant to be "an event". There's a bit of pomp and circumstance to it, and although I personally would not stomp my feet if the dinner dress codes were abolished, I confess I would be slightly disappointed, because there's something appealing to me in the idea of a ship full of people taking the time to honor the tradition of treating dinner on a cruise ship as more of an upscale party than just putting on the feedbag for some first-class grub. ;)

Neither do I, and I don't believe I said that.
I said IF you are worrying about what others are wearing then you have issues. Just to set the record straight, we dress to Disney Code and have no problems with it. However to see people become so incensed with others because of their clothing choices???? Life is far too short and this subject gets rehashed monthly, if not weekly on here.
We should just have a sticky at the top "Dress Code Thread" Sticky :) Could even have one pro, and one con :goodvibes

Yes we pay a lot of money
Yes we are on vacation

BUT You can read in the literature or view on the web the policy. Documents come well in advance if you book through DCL and most TA's know the policies. There is no excuse if you dont want to follow the few suggestions that disney makes I know of a nice Pool in Newark NJ you can wear what ever you want . Thats how I feel ....

Now in Reality .....people will do what they want regardless it should not detract from your cruise experience. Enjoy your cruise and if you do get dressed up you can have a nice falmily photo of everyone dressed to the nines.

HI,

Just thought I would throw my opinon in here too.
I don't think you have to dress up, but I am personally not to keen on the wearing jeans thing. Jeans can be pretty casual, unless they are black or in good condition I would rather not see them in the dining areas. And, who's gonna be the dress police when a pair of ratty ones come in just 'cause jeans are allowed now? Personally, I find it just as easy and convient to pack a skirt , sundress or a pair of pants for most dinner nights. Hubby is also very comfortable with his dockers, polos and a dinner jacket for the one dress up evening. I agree it's fun to dress up for a cruise. Especially since my prom days seem like it was in a past life time now and the formal affairs around town are attend by hubby and I once in a blue moon, so we find it fun to dress up on long cruises that have a formal night. I don't personally dress up formally for a three day cruise (as say Carnival would like you to), cause' I think that's a hassel when it's just suppose to be a quick trip. But, for the most part I believe resort casual wear is just fine on board. I also don't want to lose to much of the romantisim of the century when we actually used cruiseships for long travels overseas. I think of the picture that hung in our stateroom onboard DCL that showed Walt and Lily standing on deck. I am however realistic enough to be glad that we woman don't have to wear heels onboard or wear dresses every day!LOL! But, jeans to me at dinner still just don't seem to fit into that image.....
hummm... Just one woman's opinon.

Mmketeer...........Cruising DCL again 2/2/06!
DCL- Wonder and Magic
RCCL- Enchantment and Mariner
Carnival- Fantasy and Miracle

The issue being that it shows a disrespect for guidelines, and suggested dress attire.

Also, I don't agree with the 'I'm on vacation, I should be able to dress how I want' reasoning. If I attend a summer wedding during my vacation, should I be able to dress how I want?

JMHO. :teeth:

Hi,
I'm not sure I understand this thread completely? Is the jeans at dinner for nights outside of Formal & Semi Formal nights? Or does this mean that Disney has cancelled the Formal and Semi Formal nights? My husband would ABSOLUTELY wear jeans or shorts every day of his life if he could but I am really hoping that on our May cruise there will be at least one Formal Night. I'd love to get my two little girls dressed up and see my husband dressed up. I'm hoping for a formal photo op for us 4. I also would be sad to see others not dress up as it is sort of like Prom Night - if I were the only one dressed formal it would really ruin the feeling of the night. Seeing families all dressed up is something that I have looked forward to in regards to our upcoming cruise.

I think breakfast and lunch should be totally casual but it wouldn't hurt us all to clean up to go into a Dining Room for dinner. There is always room service and Topsiders for the evenings when I feel like being a slob.

Take care!

There was a dress code change and jeans were permitted.....But then again, I seen everything from shorts-jeans at dinner time....It did not bother me one bit to see someone wearing shorts to dinner.....Why worry about something as trivial as that? :charac2: I personally came on board to relax...not (rhymes with witch) about who was wearing what.....Yes, it does give an aire of elegance when you dress up for dinner, but some people just dont give a Sheet. To each his own......

I think allowing jeans means you're going to see more thong underwear showing from the backs of those low cut ones when the person sits down and that wouldn't be something I would want to see at dinner time.
