New Dress Code

On hte 4 day cruise the dress up night, is it formal or just nice dresses?

The 4-night dosn't have a formal night. Used to be when you ate in Triton's that you dressed nicer than in the other two restaurants. Also, when you eat in Palo, a dress or nicer outfit is appropriate, but I wouldn't say formal is required - though, it would be accepted.
Does that make sense?

I, personally, enjoy dressing for dinner on the cruise ... it's really part of the fun for me. BUT that's just me. We always choose late seating for dinner, which might be why I've never felt "pressured" or rushed to get dressed up for dinner. :confused3

The fact that the dress code is being loosened isn't going to save anyone any time in getting ready for dinner at night. If you've been at the pool, laying in the sun or visiting a port, chances are, you will need to change into some different attire for dinner :confused3 Am I missing something?

My only hope is that DCL does keep Formal night. I know it's not everyone's cup of tea, but I do enjoy it and it's so adorable to see the little ones all done up in their fancy duds

I am looking forward to dressing up. I wear scrubs to work and don't really go out many places around here to dress up that often. However, I don't really care what every one else is wearing.

We always dress up for dinner. It's not that big of a deal for me, because I'm a business-casual office monkey anyway. I just make sure everything I pack either goes with my brown shoes or my black shoes, then only take the appropriate pair. DW enjoys it, because she wears scrubs every day of the week, so she's just happy to wear anything that isn't Listerine-colored with a drawstring waist.

The only time we've really been taken aback by somebody's attire at a meal was the first cruise, there was a scraggly looking dude with ratty shorts and a shirt wtih no sleeves or sides. And he was sitting one table over, so the whole meal we're forced to stare at his pit hair, ribs, and unknown skin condition. Mmmmm...

On the subject of "caring what others wear", well, I'll be honest, we're people-watchers. Always have been. (That's part of the reason we love Disney. The freaks-n-goobers ratio goes through the roof when you get that many thousand people all on top of each other.) So we will notice if somebody looks a fool. And we will mock them in private later, at our leisure.

That being said, and knowing we're originally from a place (SE Ohio) where the phrase "Honey, have you seen my good sweat pants? We're gonna be late for church!" has been heard, if somebody comes to dinner with a nice pair of jeans and a decent shirt on, we probably wouldn't look twice.

DH and I love dressing up on a cruise...for each other! We dress up each night (we have no kids to travel with us, so we save a lot of time), and after dinner we have a drink in one of the quiet little nooks on Deck 10 and watch the world go by. We also have our picture taken each night. Neither of us is very photogenic, and the best pictures we've gotten in years have been from the ship's photographers.

DH just went out last week and bought a new jacket, because he wants to make sure that we can tell which pictures were taken when...wouldn't want to have the same clothes on two years in a row! :rotfl:

I didn't even own a pair of jeans until last weekend. I refused to buy them until I got back down to a certain size. I hit that size last week, and treated myself to a whole bunch of new clothes, including jeans. But I will still dress each night for dinner, both on our cruise and while we're at WDW next month!

Yes, Thank you. Too bad my cruise is months away, I'm getting excited.

Thank you for your e-mail.

When the dining rooms are 'Cruise Casual' this means no shorts, swimwear or tank tops.

Note: Jeans are now acceptable attire in our dining rooms

We look forward to the chance to sail with you.

Sincerely,

Jennifer

:rotfl: Somebody forgot their "r"!

Oops! LOL!! That's why my DH says I should proof read what I write (obviously I don't listen). Sorry, all better now.

glad you wrote that! We also get dressed for dinner when we are at WDW....we dress "resort casual" for dinners in the parks and also at the hotels. That is just "us." So, their is no debate for us as to what to wear when on the cruise! We enjoy dressing up.....

I work with the public everyday, and I must say I really don't care what the dress code is or how other people dress as long as they dont SMELL!!!!! Showering, and deodorant are a MUST do!!!! for all...............

Just wondering, is formal night still required on the 7 night, or can you go casual on those nights also.

DJ

From what I read, there still are formal and semi-formal nights on the seven-night cruises. Jeans will only be allowed on the other nights of the cruise.

Just returned from the 4/2 cruise and the navigator does not stay Resort Casual anymore, it just says Casual, no shorts please. It did go on to say on Pirate night that there is no tank tops or bathing suits. I saw many in jeans, many dressed up, many in the middle. We did a little of everything. We did actually wear jeans one night, however it did feel a little weird.

I think when your spending the money to travel a more luxury enviroment it should be expected you need to dress nicer than normal. If not whats fun at staying luxury hotels and the such? The enviroment of that just makes it fun also.

I agree with that. The way people dress add to the atmosphere of a place - a disco, a restaurant, a party......I like to see how people dress. I like to admire what they wear and seeing others all dressed up makes things seem more special and out of the ordinary to me. I don't think I would feel comfortable wearing to dinner on the cruise what I will wear to stroll around the parks.

I get dressed up for work every day and I like doing that.
Remember when you were a little girl and you saw the ladies getting dressed up in pretty dresses and high heels to go to work and thinking it was special? I still feel like that. But when I get home, the sweats and jeans come right on!
On Christmas and Easter we get all dressed up. Even though it's just to my mother in law's or my father in law's house, everyone still gets dressed up for the special holiday. Before I was married, I did not. But I do now and I like it.

So my personal feeling is, if it is something special, I should dress up. I think jeans with a nice top and heels looks great for dinner, but on the cruise, I am bringing a couple fancy dresses and nice heels (and of course my Pirate Wench costume) because I want to, not because I have to. My husband is bringing his dress slacks, dress shoes and nice shirts because he wants to. He also likes getting dressed up. If I tell him that jeans are now acceptable, he'll give me that look and say,
Corryn....which means, give me a break :earboy2:

I know one thing.....
If Kevin Tracy hears about this after spending $$ recently on dress clothes, we're gonna see the V !!!!!!! :earseek:

When we sailed on the Wonder Easter weekend, it had the new dress code listed in the navigators, but it requested dress-up wear on the last night. Not sure if they've done away with that over the past few weeks. Hubby and I will probably still get somewhat dressy for the cruise. Both he and I can wear casual wear (jeans and t-shirts) to work, so for us it's fun to dress up on the ship. But I'm with those who say they could care less what others are wearing. We've sat at tables with people who dressed to the nines and those who were totally casual, and it has never affected my personal enjoyment of the cruise. But I do see Palo as an exception...it is "special," like going to Victoria and Alberts, and I hope they keep the dress-up requirement there. On the rest of the ship, do whatever floats your boat!

We are going on our first cruise this fall and I know my DW and DD are having a total blast finding nice clothes to wear for the dinners. My DS and I will dress nice also. To us this is a great vacation to dress up to.

Corryn,

If I was your husband I'd have you wearing that pirate wench costume every day! WOW!! :cool1:
