ZW~My sentiments precisely! ::yes:: Surprises...are FOOD for the SPIRIT. I just LOVE them. :teeth:

jmcross~Okay, Joanne! Now that you've got the circle formed...do I get a HUG?! :grouphug:

Here's a FUN...ON TOPIC little game we can play!~(If anyone wishes). What's the wierdest thing which has ever happened to you while at the WDW SWAN or DOLPHIN?

**I have a few...but I'll begin with one in particular. The housekeepers which were taking care of our room were Haitian, and very superstitious. DD won a Giant stuffed snake in Sea World, and brought it back to the room. She placed it on her bed the first day we left the room to go to the parks. We always make the beds before leaving, and she proudly coiled the snake on the center of her bed. It is about 6 feet in length, and green w/yellow and red stripes. We came back to discover housekeeping had not been in the room. We were too tired to call and inquire, so we hit the sack. The next day, DD placed the snake across her lamps which are above her bed. When we came back from the waterpark (before E-ticket), there was a bath towel over the snake's head (?). The room was not cleaned/completed. I called housekeeping, and the supervisor said she would investigate the trouble and get back to me. She called me right back, and asked me if we had a SNAKE in the room? I said, "what?" She said, "the housekeepers wrote on the report, they refused to clean the room due to the snake in the room, could we please remove it. I laughed, and explained it was merely a STUFFED/PLUSH toy snake! She kindly asked if I could please place it in the closet when the housekeepers are to clean the room, as they are afraid of all serpants, and equate them with the devil/evil. I assured her this snake was a HAPPY reptile, but she was not laughing. I asked her why they had only cleaned "half" of the room? She said they saw the snake MOVE, and tossed a towel on the head/eyes to keep it from seeing them as they exited!! This is a TRUE tale!

Well...it happened AGAIN last summer, as DH wanted a big black rubber snake from the barrel in front of Indiana Jones in MGM. He hung it on the wall-lamp above our bed, and every eve there was a BIG WHITE BATH towel fully covering the snake!

So...do not bring any snakes (stuffed, rubber, or toy) into the rooms at the Dolphin!!

ANYONE ELSE?

Let me tell you what happened when we stayed at our favorite place the DOLPHIN.

me and the kids got back from the park and a housekeeper who had an accent(I am also thinking Haiti)was singing out loud with her hands held high up going back and forth and her head moving up and down while singing.

She was singing in her language and looked to be singing a religious song. When we entered she was shocked to see us since we came back early around 1pm from the parks but just acted like nothing was wrong and went about finishing the cleaning. I told her that she did not have to vacuum so she left.

It wasnt a big deal but kids were little shaken up by her loud voice. Daughter said "mom maybe our room is haunted"

But we still love the Dolphin. I asked the kids today if they wanted to stay at the Poly(i really really want to. Always had a dream to stay there) but the kids are demanding only the Dolphin so Dolphin it is which I love also:teeth: :teeth:

Travel agents that we are, I am in the middle of booking a first time on site vacation for our school secretary. We didn't get the call out yesterday for the codes, but probably will try today. I booked her airfare last week. Anyone know if you can get the teacher discount for a school secretary? Won't be a problem getting anything on the school letterhead since it is in her desk! :) I know they're just thinking about getting the all stars since they're taking their grand daughter. I keep raving about the S/D though and she is intrigued.

I'll catch up with everyone later!

Hi,
yes, I'm new on these boards but I am looking for a little help

We are staying at the Dolphin in 2 weeks. I have the teacher rate right now. I wanted to upgrade with starwood points to club level. Has anyone been successful in getting the club level upgrade with this discounted rate? I called too early to up grade. I guess you have to do this within 5 days of check in. She also said it has to be a noncontractual rate. (I couldn't get the upgrade with the low teacher rate) I thought I had seen a few people say they got the upgrade and the teacher rate.

I know that different times of the year are different and so are CSRs I would enjoy anyone's reponse to this. thanks! ::MinnieMo ::MickeyMo

gmLOL...thanks for your hilarious account of another "mouse-keeping" tale from the Dolphin. How funny is that? :teeth:

Here's another...*Last summer, while staying in the exec. suite, we experienced an odd occurrence. We were in the "parlor" portion, and the "nurses" (as DD has called them since she was verrrry young) were cleaning one of the bedrooms. The door to the BR was closed, but we kept hearing the "drawers" open and close...as well as the closet! DD and I were the only ones in the room, and were sitting quietly, reading. When we heard various things, we would look at one another with a puzzled expression.

I always keep room/air freshener spray in the rooms atop the vanity. Since the windows do not open in the suites, I enjoy the smell of fresh scents, and have a myriad of different varieties. Sitting on the sofa, I "distinctly" heard someone "spraying" something wildly about the bedroom, so I went to the adjoining door and opened it abruptly. The "Nurse" was standing over the beds...with the can of freshener in her hand. She looked at me completely "stunned/scared", and immediately began apologizing. I reassured her it was "okay," and we both laughed (hers was a nervous laugh). She said she wanted the room to smell "wonderful" when we returned. ::yes::

I wasn't truly upset, just a bit taken aback by her willingness to "touch/use" something without the guest's permission. After this episode, I began to put things (such as sprays, perfumes, etc.) away in a bag in the closet. I did the same with any other "valuables" which may have been placed in a drawer (which I know I heard being opened). It has only confirmed my conviction about never being "too" careful when staying at any property.

penjen~I have not ever done this...but do believe many others have. I believe you ARE able to upgrade to the CL using points, even with a discounted rate. The teacher's rate is not PRICELINE, and is a preferred discounted rate offered by the management of the resort. Therefore, upgrades and points are applicable. I'm sure someone else will post and explain this process. Congrats on your upcoming plans, and the excellent rate you have obtained! :goodvibes:

#1HM~Travel agent here! (LOL)...I too, made ressies for my GF with regards to her summer travel to WDW. I would believe the school secretary may be able to obtain the "teacher" rate with the assistance of the letterhead, etc. You could always call in advance and inquire.

*Did you see the terrible cheap-shot on the ice last eve? Steve Moore (Avalanche) was hit from behind by Todd Bertuzzi (Canucks). Moore suffered a fractured vertebre, as well as facial contusions, etc. Bertuzzi seemed to execute a "pile-driver" on Moore from behind, driving him "head-first" into the ice. Moore was knocked unconscious. Detroit Red Wings veteran Brendan Shanahan denounced the violent altercation.

It was terrible to watch, and was apparently a "pay-back" for something Moore did to the Canuck's captain last month (for which he was not penalized). I'm sure the player did not intend to inflict such injury on Moore. It's all very sad, and my prayers are with Moore and his family. :(

Penjen - this thread is about upgrading to CL with points. It seems like there's different info out there depending on who you talk to.

I don't have any stories to share.....yet....but I'm sure enjoying everyone else's experiences. DD has lots of stuffed animals...I'll be sure she leaves any snakes at home!

thanks so much for your replies! I knew I'd get good information from the experts! ::yes::

...what a surprise to see you "in dees here parts"!!

Hiya, Lisa, Caroline,.....and "sistas"!!

 Yikes--- still on page 2 A bump up from me!

:wave2: Hi, HughJackman'n'me...thanks for coming over from the lodge.

Great stories about strange happenings. I don't have any stories. Everything went along pretty swimmingly on my S/D stays. How boring!!! LOL

I saw the news report video about the hockey player. So sad and so unnecessary.

DF~ Now that you are surrounded by Sox fans, I guess we can give you (yuck - choking on the word) Yankee fan a hug...

 :rotfl: You SOX fans are so loving! Remember...the real reason the Yankess win so often, is the opposing players can't keep their eyes off the PINSTRIPES!!

Thanks for the wonderful gesture! If we can all get along...there may be HOPE for the rest of the world. :goodvibes:

Hi yourself!!!! Thought of you the other day while watching Hugh on Inside The Actor's Studio! Also saw his performance in Oklahoma - wow!

I'll join in on that :grouphug: for the Yankee fans. They need all the love they can get! :p

And to stay on topic, I did phone the Dolphin today to see if I could get some idea where we may be located in the hotel but no dice. The woman I spoke with said rooms are assigned at checkin based on availability. She also said something about limited balcony rooms but I had trouble understanding her. I'll just keep my fingers crossed (for the next 4 months!!!) that a balcony is available for us!

:hyper: I saw Hugh Jackman in Oklahoma, too - his singing was fabulous!!

paras4ri~ A balcony is wonderful -- sending you loads of PD so that your wish will come true! :wizard: *******************************************************************************************************

Alright, DF, we Sox fans still love you!! :lovestruc

DF~Of course you get a hug. :grouphug:

Feel the love. Ahem, Red Sox love that is!!

This will tell you what a Red Sox nut I am. I am in the starting phases of planning another trip to WDW in August to revolve around the Red Sox schedule. I can't get tickets for any home games here. I tried on the day they opened calling ticket sales for hours and couldn't get through. Now they are all sold out.

I have relatives in Tampa so I'm thinking of going there to catch a Devil Ray's game vs. the Red Sox and then renting a car and driving to WDW for 6 days. We will be staying at the Swan, of course. I have already called and they have 4 out of the 5 nights available at the teacher rate. Does anyone know if reservations open up if I keep trying?? I'd like to spend the whole time in one location.

It looks like I will miss the meet by one week as the Sox won't be there until the first week of August. Will anyone still be there?

Joanne

 Hi, Joanne. I would keep trying for the additional night. Many times there are cancellations which open up rooms. What a great plan - Sox game in Tampa and the cherry on the top - a WDW trip with a Swan stay!

Unfortunately, we will not be there the first week of August. My school district will be opening before Labor Day. So, our "getting ready to open for the school year" gets pushed up by a few weeks.

:( Something has happened to signature clippie - Where is my Mouseteacher?????????

She must be back Mouseteacher as I can see her....

Bump from page 2......

Hey I can relate to planning vacations around the Sox!! Last summer we saw them play in Baltimore....and we're heading back there for a game this October. In 2001 we visited Niagara Falls and drove to Toronto to see the Sox play in Skydome.

I'd love to get to Spring Training some year, we went back when they trained in Winter Haven. I'll just have to work that around a trip to WDW and a stay at the Dolphin!!!!
(note above....staying on topic!) ;)

I'm surrounded by LOVE! :grouphug: Thanks!! ~

If you have a moment...take a peek at my reply on the "SWAN~LONG" thread. I just had to express my own views on the "TURN" this one seemed to take (all too quickly).
Let the FLAMING begin...(S'mores are my #1 fav FLAME thing...especially good at the PRIME TIME cafe!). LOL...

paras4ri~I too...hope you get the BALCONY!! ::yes:: I'll be sending you infinite PD to assist in your DREAMS/WISHES!

joanne~:teeth: I'll still be there!

*Nearly every day, a DISer pms me to quietly express their sincere gratitude for my informational and entertaining posts. I can not tell you how much this personally affects me, and fills me with a sense of something MUCH BIGGER than myself. I am blessed to have such wonderful "connections" and bonds with the likes of you angels. Thank you, for making each and every day of my life THAT much better. :goodvibes: Your support is indescribable. ^_^

madge~More like a nightmare!

That old aphorism is certainly true...there are NO fans, like SOX fans. ::yes::
