Thanks to the people on this thread, I was able to secure the recipe rate at the Swan for my stay in August.... When I inquired with the reservations person about how to join the recipe club (because it says you have to be a member), she couldn't tell me. I told her that I had the print out from the website and she said that should be enough for check in. Can anyone tell me if I have to take affirmative steps to join something? Thank you.

Hi,
Can someone please answer Anistad's question. Inquiring minds want to know. :D

Here is the answer, which was on another thread, also asking about the recipe club rate:

btw, an email came today offering many other promotions at the Swan/Dolphin, including an AP rate. This was through Orlando Vacation Discounts. I can cut and paste the information if anyone would like it.

Thank you #1 hockeymom,

I had seen your earlier post and did check the recipe club, I guess I was expecting some kind of email from them acknowledging that I was a member.

Let's chalk it up to "discount insecurity".:)

hockeymom- thank you for the heads up on the AP discounts.

dreamflight-- Do you have any idea what floor the renovations are up to at the Dolphin?

I was totally confused before our trip as I knew I had signed up for their emails but hadn't received one recipe in my email! Turns out in my profile I had neglected to check off the recipe club. I missed the last recipe by a day, but the most important part is that I now know I am signed up for any offer that is available! I wasn't able to use the recipe club deal and still keep my CL. I am glad that many were able to use that offer!

If you're in doubt, send a postcard to yourself and check your profile while you are on that page! I keep on sending postcards to my DH hoping to soften him up!

I am going to ask/beg/cry for some pixie dust from all of you! 107 teachers called back. I am not in that group yet. I am hoping that 107 was all of the tenure teachers so the rest of us can be called back "out of order". I know my principal definately wants to grab back his original staff. Add to this, the state gave Flint their 17-1 money but Flint isn't matching it so Flint will only have 17-1 at "some" schools, and they aren't saying which. I can just about guarantee it won't be our school since the schoolboard and edison aren't the greatest of friends. They have done everything to kick edison out of our district they can think of. If 17-1 isn't in our school for k-3, my call-back possibilities fall drastically. I am on crazy mode here, where some news actually is making me more scared than no news! We should be starting back Aug. 11th at our school, so I am school supply buying mode, wondering what grade level and how many children. Pixie dust please fall on me!

Debbie

It has been reported (a week or two ago) that the Dolphin renovations were up to the 5th floor, as it appears they are working from the ground up. Although, someone reported that they have renovated some of the CL rooms. Anyone know any more about this or a recent renovation update?

mouseteacher.......a belated 'welcome back'! You sure know how to use that pixie dust. So happy for your upgrade! Where did you eat(besides Cal Grill)? Disney restaurants are attractions for us!

Wonder if DF is on her cruise now? She is hard to keep track of!

Hockeymom........pixie dust coming your way for a call back. I can't believe your school starts Aug. 11. We have been off since June 2 and go back Aug. 25. Beginning Aug. I need to start getting in the routine of going to bed earlier and getting up earlier! Some of our teachers have already been called back, but not all. Sometimes they wait til the last minute, depending on class size, as per our contract. Anyway, I know what you are going through and I am feeling for you.

Debbie~ Mucho PD for you ********************************************* and I'll add in some prayers, too (after all I am the principal of a Catholic school - perhaps my prayers will have more clout! ) ;)

ozzie~ Hi! Disney restaurants are MAJOR attractions for my DH! LOL We ate at Palio's (delicious), Le Cellier (okay not great) and Yachtsman Steakhouse (excellent). Palio's and LeCellier were first visits for us. All restaurants were quite quiet. Many tables remained empty. We dined at Palio's at 6:00 and there were only 5 other tables occupied the entire time we were in the restaurant. Lunches: Chefs de France, Dolphin Fountain, Mara @ AKL, Columbia House @ MK and a nice breakfast buffet at Garden Grove @ the Swan.

I'm still feeling the effects of the magic the front desk of the Swan bestowed on us - I am walking on air! Major PD rained down on us. :) :)

BTW, the Thorlo socks were the BEST. No blisters - no problems. They were worth every penny! Thanks again for the advice.

here's some more pixie dust for Debbie ********************

I hope it all works out for you--we need teachers that actually want to teach :)

ozzie--my oldest goes back to school nest week (see my countdown :) ) we have been out since June 5--would have been earlier if it weren't for the snow  we are on a modified year-round schedule, which I love!

mouseteacher--I am going to need some upgrade tips in a few weeks. I can see me stammering over my words now.....

Thank you Ozzie, Madge and Mouseteacher for your PD and prayers! I am at an Edison school, in a partnership with Flint Schools. Thus, more hours each day and more days, but I was hired by Flint, so pink slips happen. Last year at this time I was in Europe so I while I was a nervous wreck, I did have a lot to keep my mind busy!

Thank you for the prayers, Mouseteacher. I for one believe they work. My Grandma just passed away last year, but she had the ability to make the important prayers come true! There was nothing in her mind that a visit to the church to light a candle, then coming back to make us a great Polish dinner couldn't fix! At her funeral at the church the church bells just went crazy, probably waking up the town. It was bittersweet, but I was thankful for the clamor of the bells waking everyone up since she gave so much of herself to the church and her community.

Madge>> I grew up on a year round schedule from 5th-8th grade. We loved it, and more importantly my parents loved it since we could take our trips to Florida during January and February when there was less traffic and crowds! I envy your schedule!

OK, I will keep this post on topic. I need to go back to the Swan, with my newly improved paycheck due to a step increase! (IF I get called back of course)

Thank you again,
Debbie

--->our trips to the Swan/Dolphin are always in October....I love it :) although there is some sort of big convention on 3 nights of our stay...we'll make due, though :)

I am sure you'll have your job back...it just wouldn't be fair to keep you out of the classroom :::a little more pixie dust:::

...sounds like you had an INCREDIBLE time!! (didja meet up with Lisa??) All that talk about those HEAVENLY BEDS got me thinkin': I know you can purchase 'em...do you know where, or do I have to wait for DF to get back????

kimmar....you can purchase the heavenly bed stuff at the spg website. I think hockeymom just did that!

mouseteacher.....did you get to meet disbug? I agree about the restaurants being empty. I wondered when I called for PS's about picking my time and everything being available. Must have been too hot to eat!

madge~ I, too, stammered and rushed my words when asking the CM for the upgrade to balcony. But, I just jumped in and spoke from the heart about our desire. I'm sure she thought I was too funny! Maybe she felt bad for me and thus gave us a the Jr. Suite! Whatever... it worked!! LOL

kimmar ~ Sadly, I didn't meet Lisa or Disbug. I had my green ribbon on my pack but I didn't see one DISer anywhere in the World. Disbug left me a lovely surprise gift at the Swan desk - a "Mouseteacher" DIS name tag with a lovely note. When I tried to see if I could leave her a note with the CM, the CM did not know her name or room # to leave the note for her. I did get a description of her but did not "find" her. :(

Debbie ~ sweet story about your grandmother. :)

Hey, you guys, your school schedule is so different from mine. The students return September 3rd. We get out in mid June as long as there are no snow days.

I am having terrible Disney withdrawal symptoms. LOL ALready scheming on how to afford a return trip.

I still haven't been able to ask for an upgrade at the front desk. I always tell myself I am going too but chicken out. Maybe this trip will be different.

On the brighter side... A little pixie dust came my way today. I was able to book an illuminations cruise for Aug. 26th.. I am so happy:Pinkbounc . So far mom2of2 will be sharing it with us and we have two seats left so I posted on the themeparks board to see if anyone else would like to share. It will be like a little mini meet. I can't wait.

This threaed has become my favorite place on the DIS. You guys are all so friendly. Thanks

More PD your way!!!!!!!!!!!

Our school starts the day after Labor Day, but only 1 or 2 days off at Easter and only around a week or so at Christmas.

DS heads back to college on the 24th to be a 'Badger Buddy' to new kids arriving.

judirain ~ Please DO ask for an upgrade at the front desk. I, too, was nervous about asking this time but I plunged in and did it... not gracefully as I wished but I did it!!! The CM was very gracious and very willing to help out and as my post told the story - we got a Jr. Suite! Don't hesitate - ASK!!! :)
