was just checking my email reply to get an address for requests. I did not get melissa but loydac@swandolphin.com. Anyways her email clearly states club level includes 10$ resort fee and you will not be charged for this. I guess i will print this and add to all my ressie files for this trip.

Thanks RobMax and Dreamflight for your words of encouragement. I'll keep checking the S/D website for a cahnge in our reservation listing, otherwise, I'll keep our fingers crossed and be extra nice at check-in.

We stayed at the Swan in 2001 and I recall that we were well-behaved guests - I hope my questioning about the valet parking daily fees didn't go on our "permanent record" ;)

Dreamflight: Are you going to WDW this July? Perhaps we'll see you at the S/D!

No prob & Good question! Seems like the Dolphin has a dozen valets hanging around shooting the sssss ... uh ... breeze. I assume they have to have that many to keep the service level high enough for the conventioners. I like to park and never drive again until I leave.* My boys are incharge of driving once we get there.

*note: this is an important saftey tactic due to the dramatically high number of blue hairs in the orlando area who probably should have had their liscences revoked at age 99!

I'm sure ya'll have posted this but what is the difference between a Swan studio and a Dolphin Jr. Suite?

With 2 little ones which makes better sence or does it really matter?

Luckily, studying business allows me to "let down my hair" and escape the tower frequently. :)

Braque - give it all you got when you get there. And if you are willing to change rooms, my advice is to check after a day or two if you don't get what you want (and go at a different time of the day 8pm vs. 8am so you get a different mgr and rep.)
LOL...Glenn, too funny. I can REALLY let my hair down at WDW! On the other matter...I prefer the eve desk crew at times. They always seem less "harried" than the 9-5er associates. This is TRULY very good advice, and I appreciate you posting. If the Day staff denies the upgrade, and you are not pleased with the room, by all means approach the eve staff. :) On the Jr. suite vs. the Studio...It all depends on personal preference. There are some differences in size/layout...but basically they are similar. Yet, one is in the Dolphin, one in the Swan. It's all up to YOU!

Braque...I'll be in the "WORLD" from the end of June through the better part of August. I truly spend nearly my entire "summer sojourn" with DISNEY! This includes several different resorts and locations...along with another Disney Cruise. Everything is SET, and we only have to pack, and we are there. In fact, I made the last of the reservations (car rentals) prior to Christmas...and I can RELAX and DREAM! For me, the JOURNEY....is a BIG PART of the TRIP. The JOURNEY has already begun! ;)

Mouseteacher...I'm with you on this 100+%. In nearly 11 years of schooling, my DD has never once received any disciplinary action or tardy notice. She has tremendous respect for teachers, and an immense thirst for knowledge. We always kindly recognize the efforts of these persons, and have NEVER had to complain about or criticize any of them. I FEEL for the teachers and administrators who have to "TANGO" with the parents of difficult students. Sometimes, the students are not truly difficult...just the parents. I've heard enough over the years....and seen some too. It's not only troubling (accountability-challenged folks), it's frustrating. In this day and age of loose morals and down-trodden character...Teachers are burdened with being MUCH MORE than just educators. If these children had more "parenting" at home, the students could focus better on the task at hand..."Learning", thus giving TEACHERS the respect and attention they deserve in their field. I also believe they are still one of the most "underpaid & unappreciated" professionals in the workforce! :) My earliest heroes...have all been TEACHERS.;)

KIMMAR...sure hope you are able to work some MAGIC on this one! Please, tell me what happens here. I'm ready to help in any way. :)

DayDreaming...I recall something about the Baskets on this board. Maybe someone will know/remember a bit more than me on this feature. Anyone?

Disnurse...Hope your son has a successful BOOK & BAKE sale! Please, let me know some details. I still think of you, and all the victims of this "senseless" tragedy. Blessings and Kudos to your son, for being so eager/happy to help. I'm sure he makes you very proud. DD enjoyed her day with "Ricki", and could not stop talking about every event. She was animated and enthused by this enlightening afternoon. For just a few hours, she was almost able to "place herself in this little girls shoes", and see the world from her perspective. She was born blind, and has never seen the ocean, or the sunset, or the smile on her mother's face. Well, at least not with her eyes. DD surmises...."Ricki sees the world with her heart." And, oh...what a WONDERFUL WORLD. ;)

DF ~ Thank you for the kind words for my profession. I have always wanted to be a teacher since I was a little girl and that was a long time ago LOL. I never waivered from my dream and I have loved every minute in my classroom. I truly enjoy teaching children (I taught 2nd grade for many years) and believe that I can make a difference. I moved up the ladder (so to speak) to administration and have enjoyed molding a school into an institution that is a wonderful, safe place for children to learn and grow. My school has a fine reputation for academic excellence. It is hard work but very satisfying.

And yes, the challenge we eductors face can be parents who are unwilling to work with us and would rather blame the school. That is not to say, we don't make mistakes too. However, every teacher in my building works very hard and if he/she is wrong they are willing to make the situation better. For some parents, that is not enough or some parents are so unreasonable, there is no way we can meet there expectations.

Oh well - I must get off my soap box!
:D

Just think DF - your journey is marching closer to its destination!

COLOR=limegreen] I truly enjoy teaching children (I taught 2nd grade for many years) and believe that I can make a difference. [/COLOR]

Mouseteacher, I am teaching 2nd grade right now! I, too, always wanted to be a teacher. I love it, but there are frustrations--like the kiddo who says she wants to come live with me because "your rules are fair and you don't drink and smoke pot and then hit me with a chair." (called DSS on that one but they did nothing) or the parents who won't come to conferences and hang up when they hear your voice on the phone (they don't know that I often call parents to tell them something GOOD their child has done!)

Dreamflight, Your DD sounds like a very smart girl. Not everyone can really see beyond the obvious into another person's heart like she did. This may be one of the best experiences of her life!

BTW--thanks for all the information all the people on this board share! I am really looking forward to my trip! I am going to scrapbook it so that my students from this year can share my fun when they visit me next year.

Piper, I know! There are many frustrations --that comes with our territory. However, I see my profession as a calling and not a job. Sometimes school is the only stable and safe place some children have. I am in a suburban school serving middle to upper middle class families - Catholic elementary school. My frustrations are very different from yours. Overall, we have a lot of parental support and commitment to the school. The children are wonderful. When I am experiencing a frustrating or difficult decision, I head for the Kindergarten classroom for a time to smile and remember why I am this! :D

Enjoy your trip to WDW. It truly turns us back into carefree children again - a time to smile and be lighthearted!

"...IS the PRECISE REASON I LOVE WDW, so VERY much!" I revert to a child the moment I see the GATES and SIGNS...LOL. The excitement seems to RACE through my heart & mind. It is an innocence, which can be overshadowed in day-to-day existence. I relish the "butterflies" I experience on Splash mountain (over all the little DIPS), and cherish the "Hugs" from the Characters. Oh...Thank you, Walt. Thank you, Again & Again. ;)

Mouseteacher...You are SO welcome (for my comments), and SO deserving. Teaching, at ANY school/level is challenging. I commend all of you in this profession, for the overwhelming task you so willingly take-on. I nearly cried as I read your post, and the "Calling/passion" which pulled your heart towards this "place in the sun" since childhood. My DS was our little "nurse" as a child, and is now a full-fledged RN as an adult. The soap box suits you well, and you are not at all placating or patronizing. What an invaluable asset you are to your school. Our administrators and teachers in DD's school "sacrifice" their talent and time for drastically less pay (than the public sector). Some of them, (thankfully, very few) are drawn to the public ranks by the lure of extra income. Yet, the majority stay, citing reasons ranging from parental involvement to religion. Whatever the reason, I'm so grateful for their comittment to our children. We are blessed beyond belief to have these fine persons leading our children into the world. ;) Again, Kudos to you for all you have done, and continue to do in the name of your calling. Following your heart...is the best way to lead the dance of life. :)

Piper...Oh, I cringed at the very thought of the home-life of the 2nd-grader whom spoke those words ("your rules are fair and you don't drink and smoke pot and then hit me with a chair."). My heart goes out to you for the struggles you have endured and the battles you will undoubtedly face. Having educated DD in a Catholic school setting since Kindergarten has opened my eyes to many experiences. These types of environments appear to encourage more parental involvement, with more "stay-at-home" moms available for the task (during school hours). This is obviously synonymous with more dual income families, & more involvement from the fathers as well. Also, tuition demands (in most cases) a higher income. Demographically speaking, the entire school is starkly different from any in our area. Public schools in California (Possibly every state) place a different set of Rules and demands on the teachers and administrators. They also restrain and control/supress them in many areas (from academics to discipline). Our Public schools are "overcrowded", cramming 45+ kids into one small classroom. I can only imagine the teacher's frustration in this situation. As a reference, DD's catholic H.S. (Grades 9-12) has an enrollment of 669 students. Her sophomore class totals 151 students. The public school (grades 9-12) she would attend in our region, has an enrollment of over 3,900 students. In 10th grade alone, this school has 1,296 students. That is MORE than the entire H.S. DD attends. Overwhelmingly, it is a major reason behind her education. Perhaps, this is the truth behind the teacher's conviction and dedication in DD's school. With the higher base pay in the public sector, comes the burden and demand which can quickly dissolve the desire and passion associated with their calling. A Teacher's sanctity is a "special place", and I hope you maintain your open-arm enthusiasm and perspective for many, many years to come. The Scrapbook idea is WONDERFUL! What a great way to share your experience with your students. You are indeed, a special person. ;)

***Destination is ALMOST below the 100 day mark!! Yahoo!!!:bounce: ;)

Thanks you, but I am no more special than 99% of the teachers at my school. We have children from 32 countries in our school. It serves slightly over 1200 students from PK-4. The majority are low income. Just a few of my students are native English speakers--but they are great! They learn English so quickly (that is the only way they can talk to each other!) Children are so great!

Piper ~ your children are very lucky to have you - remember you are their security in an otherwise unstable world. You give them a place to be a child who is treated fairly, justly and with care. Only when this is in place, can young children learn. Young children must come into school each day looking forward to learning and knowing that their teacher is their champion and supporter.

DF ~ thanks again for your support for Catholic schools - elementary and high school. Yes, indeed, we all work for a much lower wage than our public counterparts. I made peace with that years ago and remained in Catholic education. The ability to teach without disruption, to work with wonderful, caring families and to be able to teach values based on my religious beliefs were some of the main reasons I stayed in it. I hope I am now making a difference to many since I am now leading a whole school.

LOL! I always thank Walt for creating this most magical of places! I never tire of visiting. It renews me. There is no description for the feeling I get when I land at the MCO and know "I'm headed to the most happiest place on earth"! Then, when I, too, see that entrance arch - the exhiliration is awesome!

Yes, I see that you are soon to be 100 days and going downward!! :Pinkbounc

So we were talking today and decided we may go in May and Dec this year...

YES WE ARE SICK!

So I hit both the swan and dolphin reservation sites and they say... NO ROOMS AVAILABLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What's up with that...

Anyway ... we will wait and play that game later, but we are considering the POLY Con level as a replacement. Any comments?

Rob Max ~ the web site never seems to have correct info. I'd call directly to the S/D or use DU.

RobMax,
Try booking through Dreams Unlimited. Last July I called the Swan/Dolphin and was told no rooms were available for our dates. Dreams not only got us the room, but got three of our nights at the teachers rate!Just go to www.dreamsunlimited.com

I'll bet you can get a room. Call directly. But the Poly is GREAT too!

I have been lurking, but busy watching college basketball!

GO ILLINI

I agree with trying Dreams Unlimited. When I booked the Dolphin for June, it was because I was told by reservations that the Entertainment rate was not available at the Swan for my dates. (I really wanted the Swan, but wouldn't have minded the Dolphin at all.) Then, just as a lark, I checked availability with DU, and Hey, presto! was able to book Swan CL for half price! I'm a believer!

There is a conference at the S & D over the nights of the 19th and 20st. The "wonderful" Stephanie said it was the Accord conference and both hotels are books. Anyone know what Accord is -- must be damn big!

The scary thing is the 21st, 22nd and 23rd is the Uniform Code Council U Connect Conference which is part of my research agenda. OK - my wife will probably kill me if I get anywhere near the conference, but there will be a magnificent temptation!

http://www.uc-council.org/uconnect/index.htm

Anyway, I am thinking the 18th, 19th, & 20th at the Polynesian. Any suggestion on the split stay.

Glenn....The Swan/Dolphin are not "booked" full, and always leave room for other guests. Even during conventions, only a certain % of the resort may be reserved. The case, as it almost always is, Is the convention corp. reserved or "blocked" a large # of rooms in accordance with expected capacity. The rooms will be "released" soon, as they are only able to "hold" these for so long. This occurs so often...you would be amazed. So, DU will certainly be able to locate you a room in one of these resorts...please, try them first. Then, if all else fails....reserve the Poly, yet hold-out for the Dolphin/Swan. Call as your date approaches and the rooms are released from the hold. I know this to be true, as some conventions reserve/block ALL the suites, then "scale-back" as the convention date nears. Just keep trying, you'll hit GOLD!

Mouseteacher...your wonderful replies make me "proud" to be a part of the Catholic community. ;) I personally, appreciate the sacrifice you make daily, in the name of the children. :) This eve, is my new favorite show...AMERICAN DREAMS! I have not missed one episode...and love the theme. Hope you enjoy this as well, it's inspiring and educational (plus, just great clean entertainment). Dick Clark, is the Walt Disney of Network television...LOL.

Piper...what a challenging environment! I believe the kids have as much to "teach" you, as you do them. I too, learn daily from watching and interacting with children. We have a very diverse and dynamic group of students, all bringing their special cultural life experiences with them. California is very much like Texas, as we too border Mexico. Our state is more than 50% hispanic. Yet, my DD is in her second year of FRENCH! Go figure...she prefers the more difficult challenge of mastering this language. She certainly Stretches for the stars...and shoots for the MOON! ;)

Hope everyone has enjoyed a safe and fun weekend together. Another week begins, making us all another day closer to our MAGICAL DESTINATIONS in WDW~! ;)

Happy St. Patrick's Day everyone! Went to a wonderful parade in my small Mass. town yesterday. The highlight was when the marching band stopped and began singing "Danny Boy" and everyone, young and old, chimed in....it was great.
Just an update on our upcoming trip plans, we will be spending a couple of days at Universal at the Hard Rock Hotel after six nights at WDW. We are considering renting points to get into a Board Walk Villa. I'm really torn, I have a club level swan studio booked, which I know will be wonderful. The prices are about the same. Anyone want to venture an opinion?
Have a great day!

Thanks Mouseteacher for your reply. Somehow I missed it when I looked for it the other day!

I'm going Easter week, so my chances are probably slim, but it doesn't hurt to try as long as you're nice about it. And if I don't get an upgrade, I'm certainly going to be happy with where I am. It's a lovely hotel.
