So, we've been to the Grand a few years ago...
We frequent Hojo and Best Western PPI (for budget trips)...
Never been to DLR or PPH...

BUT with the hotel now remodeled do we give it a try? Is it worth it?
I've got a 6 and 12 year old that love to swim & take breaks during the day and we are going that last week of April/beg of May (possible warmer weather)

Is it worth it...is there a favorite tower? Or is the Grand just too hard to beat?
(that was an awesome trip)

If you can do it money wise (it is cheaper than the Grand) I would definitely try the DLH. We have stayed there before the remodel and twice this year since the remodel and they did a really, really good job.

The pool(s) complex is completely redone from the old Neverland pool. There is a big slide and a little kids one, both monorail themed. We love the palm trees and the tropical style (Trader Sam's and the Tiki bar) when you look out your window. We request a pool view so we can see all of that. The other views will possibly get you theme park but at a distance and DTD. Or a parking lot, back roads, pine trees or other stuff local to Anaheim.

The Adventure Tower and the Fantasy Tower are the two closest to DTD and the parks. The Fantasy Tower is the main bldg. that has the lobby, shops and restaurants. But it's not a long walk anywhere on property. The Frontier Tower is the farthest away from the parks.

The rooms are bigger than the Grand and newer. The headboards light up and play "A Dream is a Wish Your Heart Makes" when you flip a switch.

If you LOVE the wilderness feel of the Grand the DLH will be totally different. But the pool area at the DLH is great, IMO. I think your kids would really like it.

Have you read the write ups and seen the pictures of it since the remodel?

Thanks so much, just love hearing first hand from those that have experienced it! I have been getting into some of the bigger threads about the hotel since the remodel...it looks so cute :) I think I'm going for it!!

Now I have to get a handle on this whole "seniors discount" thing. They haven't posted the deals/% off yet? If so when? If when where? My mom always goes with us and she is over 60. Since we know our dates I should just book as soon as I hear?

I personally love disneyland hotel. The remodels are really nice and the pool is incredible now. It may be too cold to swim when you come though so that might not matter. If I had a choice between the on site hotels I would chose disneyland hotel!

We stayed at the Disneyland Hotel Labor Day weekend and at the Grand Californian (DVC studio) in October. My 12 yo DD loved the pool at the DLH much better. Loved the Monorail slides. We both loved how much closer the GC was though.

Our stay at the DLH was on DVC points and we stayed in the Adventure tower with a theme park view. It was wonderful Loved both experiences. If paying OOP, I would go with the DLH. That pool wins, hands down.

I have never seen the senior discount posted anywhere. I've only heard about it on these boards so maybe someone else will chime in. However, personally I would call and ask how it works.

We were there at the very beginning of May this year and it was in the 80's. Perfect weather for swimming. There are two hot tubs also.

Absolutely give DLH a try. My family of four (kids now 15 and 10) stayed at DLH for first time this August. We typically stay at GCH or CCI. We loved loved DLH, and it is our new favorite hotel at DLand. The pool complex is awesome (the slides are a blast). You have easy access to Trader Sam's Tiki lounge, a truly great bar that is full of kitchy fun atmosphere (you can take the kids there for lunch). The DLH hotel rooms are bigger than at GCH, and the bed config is much more comfortable for my family. At DLH you can get a standard room with two queens and a v comfy sofa bed, and that is much better than trying to get my 15-yr-old to squeeze himself into the small bunk bed at GCH. I also liked that DLH lacked the long winding, turning hallways of GCH. (Depending on where they put you at GCH, it can feel like its own epic journey to get from the lobby to your room.) There are two things I like better at GCH and that is their incredible lobby and the easy access to DCA. But if you can use the Monorail in and out of Dland as your main mode of transport than DLH is not too bad at all in terms of length of travel to the parks. Have a great time.

I peraonlly did this for just one night to try it.
LOVED the pool and waterslide area so nice!! My son wespecially enjoyed it.
I also enjoyed the light up musical headboard it made a nice nightlight.

We really liked it. PPH is still our favorite, but DLH is right behind it. We stayed in Frontier Tower and it was fine. Found that walking out the back, towards the PPH and Grand, then crossing the street and going though the Grand to the parks, was fun, and the same distance as walking through downtown Disney. (this is good for me as I am not a fan of malls, and DTD is a mall to me)

But I think that Adventure Tower is probably THE tower to stay in.

We loved and used the pool everyday. But it is quite a long walk to the gate through DTD crowds, when you have tired kids. I think if you are a pool family and can afford it; it's worth it. But if you're not going swimming the inconvenience doesn't justify the cost. Even with amazing headboards.

So can we swim at the beginning of April?

Also, if you book on DVC points, is the Adventure tower the "premium" view?

The weather will be different every year and it depends on what you can tolerate. Some Canadians will say they swim in very low CA temps. since it's warm to them. The pools will be open unless there is a refurb.

I googled the DVC point chart and they only offer standard and premium which is what they offer to regular guests. I am pretty sure the premium view is the same for DVC as the premium view for a paying guest. They consider anything above the 6th floor "premium". It doesn't matter what the view is (DTD/theme park, inner pool area or parking lot) it goes by the floor level. Also, it doesn't matter which tower you are in either for regular guests. Floors 1-6 is standard view and floors 7 and up are Premium view. Kind of weird to get used to. However, I have no idea if they limit DVC to a particular tower.
