O.K. I finally did it after thinking about it for years.

I got a nice Mickey Mouse tattoo today. I'm a 45 year old kid at heart and my daughter was egging me on to do it.

We are going to Disney August 19th and I'm going to surprise my sister and brother-in-law with this new tatt.

The tattoo artist said it shoiuld be healed by the 19th, but I am cutting it close.

My question to anyone with a tattoo is, do you think it will be fine to swim by August 19th.

Thanks for any advice you may want to give.

You should be okay, depending on where it is. Mine is on my left sholderblade and healed rather swiftly (i think maybe a week or so.) triple antibiotic --good stuff, although a little greasy on your clothes

Just make sure that if you're going to be out in the sun USE sunscreen. LOTS!

PS. Let's see a Picture!!!

You will probably be okay. Mine was completely healed within 2 weeks. Just remember SPF 50 on it in the sun!

PICTURE????

Mine was fine in 2 weeks too.

Yes- we need a pic!

OK, weird question for those with tats- what has to heal? Does the area bleed (from all those needle sticks, I suppose)? Does it get a scab? I don't have any ink myself, and don't intend to get any, but am curious what happens.

Exactly.

I 2nd the sunscreen. I have one of those big sticks of spf 75 (I think?) and just smear that on my tattoo's. All of them have remained very bright, even after 12 years, so I attribute it, to that.

Bleeding depends on the individual - but usually tattoos do not bleed after the process is done.

After the tattoo has been done, residual ink and plasma will be on the skin; that needs to be washed off.

The parts of the skin which have been tattooed will scab over, and need to be left alone (no itching or picking!) aside from moisturizers/whatever the artist told you to use to help it heal. Different artists recommend different products - sometimes it is dependent on the type of ink they use.

Kinda have to agree..

Sorry, I don't know much about tats but I would looove to see it!!

Congrats to you for finally getting it!

Ooh, thanks for the recommendation! I'll have to look for that, because sometimes plain old lotion gets too greasy. Especially since mine is on the top of my foot, I have to be careful with shoes.

OP, you should be fine by then. Congrats! Tattoos are very addicting.

Wow, interesting! I never knew there was a healing up period after getting a tattoo. Makes sense, though, now that I think about it.

What about those HUGE, covering the whole back (or other large area) tats? Sounds like a lot of pain and recoup time!

I don't think I could ever get inked- I'm too much of a chicken about needles and the pain involved.

I'd imagine they'd take a while longer to heal. Parts of my third tattoo were shaded in really dark, thick black lines - those were the parts that took longest to heal.

Two weeks should be fine, but no less! Triple antibiotic for the first three days, Aveno lotion the rest of the healing time (until scabs heal).

I have a full back piece and half sleeve. The healing time on my back was two weeks, too. Of course, it was done section by section. Most big pieces aren't done all at once. My longest session was three hours. Still took two weeks to heal.

I agree with lots of sunscreen and try to keep it covered as much as possible when in the sun. It's important to limit the sun exposure especially on new tattoos.

I'd love to see a picture! There's also a great thread on the Theme Park Community Board of Disney tattoos if you'd like to join the discussion there!

Helloooo.....I clicked off the "Do you matter" thread so I could see pictures of Disney tattoos. Obviously this is more important than anything I do so please post pictures!!!! ;)

I'm trying to figure out what I want for a tattoo so any pictures would be great!

Thanks folks. I promise I will put a picture up as soon as I can. Right now I still have the bandages on. The artist told me to leave them on from 12 to 24 hours. They come off tomorrow and I will see how they look. If they look good, I will take pics and put them up.

I actually had two done. I had the one on my right shoulder of a tattoo I had originally done when I was 17. It is a tatt of one of the Tiki Birds and the new one is Mickey.

They both came out amazing.

Thanks again.

Sorry folks, I can't figure out how to download my pics.

If anyone can tell me, I'd be glad to show the tat pics.

Thanks.

You can use photobucket to upload any picture that you have saved on your computer. then copy and paste the link here on the boards. the picture will give you 4 choices of the format to copy and paste. you will want the IMG code. I hope this helps.

Thanks Hulagirl87. I forgot all about photobucket.

Hope this works are a few shots of both tats and my ugly mug.

Enjoy. I'm very happy with the results.

Sorry they came out so big. I don't know how to make them smaller.

If anyone knows how to make them smaller, please let me know and I will.

Thanks.
