New Disney Tattoo

I like them both- but, OMG, when I saw the pics (before I saw the pics of your face), I thought, "Man, that is one hairy gal!" :rotfl::rotfl: For some reason, I seem to think ALL posters on the DIS are female.

Those look great!:thumbsup2

I just got my third, and last, tattoo last month. Amazing for me, none are related to Disney. Two are my kids names and the newest one is a very small tribute to my Yankees. All on my ankles.

I was told no swimming at all for two weeks. Bacitracin (sp?) for the fist 3-4 days and Lubriderm lotion for 3-4 weeks after. Lots of sunscreen like everyone else said but, I was told not to put that one for two weeks either.

Awesome tatoo! I just forwarded it to my DH & told him he needs to get one like that! Love it! :goodvibes

I thought the same thing. :rotfl2: :rotfl:

I have a tattoo on my back, and my DH is really wanted to get one on his arm, like you have, OP. He's a hairy guy like you are. I wonder what they'll look like once the hair grows in. I assume you had your arm shaved to get the tat. Will you post pics in a few weeks?

Thanks for the laugh. That would be the hariest girl on earth. Some of my friends tell me to take my sweater off when we are at the beach. LOL.

Absolutely.

I am so jealous! I have wanted a tattoo for many years but just can't seem to get up the nerve or let go of the cash and just do it. I turned 46 today and my son, who got his first tat yesterday, says it's time! Maybe it is...:rolleyes1

I can totally relate. I have been talking about this for a long time. I just felt too silly at 45 going to get a tat. However, my 14 year old daughter told me to go for it and I thought it would be a cool memory to create with her if I did it. Sometimes, in life you just have to go for it. At our age, we should be able to do what we want as long as it's not hurting anyone.

As far as the money goes. I have to admit I did get sticker shock. The parot tat on my right arm was $28 dollars 28 years ago (what a coincidence), to have it redone (which was basically do it over) was $125 and the mickey was $175.

I could have gotten it cheper but this place has a good rep and they also had a cool sign that read "Good Work is not Cheap and Cheap Work is not Good". So true.

ok i first have to say those are really cool :thumbsup2

and second i have a question (maybe more :rolleyes1) for those who have gotten a tat(s)... how long did you take to decide what and where to get it and how big? how did you pick a place to go to get it done? how does it even work? i'm almost 16 and i would like to get one in honor of my brother, even though dad WON'T be happy... but obviously since i am only 16 i can't get one with out parent consent... so i guess i'll be planning for awhile :)

Planning is definitely a major part of the process (for me anyway). Once you have an idea of what you'd like, wait several months. If your design does not change in that time, that's good - if it changes 7 times, not so good. This tattoo will be on you forever (yeah, yeah, laser removal.. that's expensive and painful).

Location is also KEY. If you are considering ANYWHERE on your body which may be difficult to cover with clothing (arms/wrists/back of neck) that is another huge part of your decision you'll have to make. Even if your dream job is to be a tattoo artist or a rockstar, imagine that the only job you'll have until your retire is a professional job, with a very strict dress code. suddenly a tattoo on your wrist must be covered at all times. Long sleeves in the summer? A watch or bracelet covering it all day, everyday? May not be as fun as it original sounded.

Also rules on tattooing minors vary from state to state. In Mass, you cannot get a tattoo until you are 18 even with parental consent.

Your parents wishes and feelings on tattoos are generally something you should consider when planning, although a memorial tattoo for your brother is something very special, and I think, maybe an exception (just my opinion though, your parents may be super strict).

Once you have your parents' ok, and are old enough/meet whatever age requirements your state has, your design and location are secured then it is time to find a shop. This is very very important. If you cannot get recommendations from anyone, I would try to find a list of all the shops in your area/state. Even if you have to go in and visit them for yourself, do it.

You want to make sure that the space is clean and sanitary. Find out how the artists work and run their shop. If it's kind of sloppy and they are distracted and over-booked, would you feel ok going in there getting something inked on your body? The best thing to do is to talk to the artists. They can tell you how much your piece will cost, length of time, healing, if they guarantee their work, and answer any questions you have about tattooing in general.

Good luck & have fun planning (:

Very well said. My first tat (the parrot on right arm which I just got re-done) was done before tats were legal. I was 17 and I'm 45 now. I never regretted it. However, most of my firends did regret theirs.

The reason was the location they had theirs done and the kinds of tats they had. I would have definitely regretted getting a skull and cross bones, which many of my friends go, or a naked lady, ectc.

Get something that you will not be ashamed to show your kids one day and in your case a memoraial to your brother is something that is wonderful, please consider the location on the body.

I work in a professional atmosphere, but at 45 I'm established and my tats are on my upper arm where they can be covered easily. If you are just starting out, the corporate world definitely looks down on tats. Maybe not so much any more, but when I was coming up, it was a no no.

Also, in New York, even with a parent they will not be able to give you a tat. You have to be 18 no matter who you are with.

Just think how yoiu will feel having this tat all these years and hopefully like me 28 years later you will have it recolored.

I still love my parrot as much as I did when I was 17 and I never lost my love for Mickey. I am obsessed with Disney and go every year and now when I go through my Disney withdrawals, I'll have my little friend close by.

Good Luck.

I have never been pro-tattoo, in fact i've been pretty against them my whole life. For some reason I have been contemplating getting a Tinker Bell tat lately. So strange. Maybe for my 50th in a few years: have the girls lifted and get a Tink tat. :rotfl:

:thumbsup2 Sounds like a good present for yourself! :thumbsup2

The one tat I have I planned it for about two years. I even went and got it done in henna in the spot I wanted to make sure I liked it. Then on my 18th birthday I went and got it done where several of my family and friends had gone.

I love that mickey mouse tattoo! Really cool! I'm wanting to get some sort of disney tattoo at somepoint. Either a full one of mickey mouse or just a hidden mickey somewhere.

Hope you have fun on vacation!

LMAO..I thought that too...

Great tattoos!!!

I got a tinkerbell tattoo in Feb of 06.... I'd wanted it for close to 2 yrs I think, and I finally found a guy who'd make it the size I wanted.. (about the length of my hand....most artists wanted to make it bigger..) I love it!!

They look great. I have come to not mind them too much, when they are just a few. I don't like when they are all over, but I know many have a story behind them and I respect that. It's just not for me.

I've been thinking about one or three, however it works out. I want a butterfly for me, a star(s) for my oldest daughter, and something for my youngest. She' only 17 and doesn't really have anything yet that is a favorite thing other than stargazer lillies. I want to wait until she really has something that is a favorite before deciding what I want. I have to figure out if I want a design that incorporates all of it, or just have three of them. :confused3
