New disney policy -dogs at FW cabins.

Just wondering if anyone knows anything about this. I already knew that the campsites allowed dogs. But does anybody know if ALL cabin loops now allow dogs? My 8 year old is scared of big ones, and I'm wondering if I should request a cabin in a loop that don't allow them. Or maybe ask not to stay next to a cabin that has dogs? Any thoughts? Thanks

You may want to check out the dog thread in the Resorts forum or post in the Camping forum. Seems designated areas are becoming more clear due to the uproar.

Yes, check out the thread here about it. It is supposed to be isolated to certain loops. I think many of us are watching closely to see if this is going to be the case in practice as we have similar concerns.

First hand reports:

We are currently in the 900 loop. We have neighbors on 921 who’s dogs have barked nonstop since we arrived (even when the owners are present). They are obviously FW regulars as evidenced by the site decorations (I know their name but feel it would serve no purpose to post that). The fact that they frequent The Fort makes me even more amazed that they would not be mindful of courteous FW behavior, but I guess I shouldn’t be surprised.
I called the front desk to complain and the CM told me there was nothing they could do. Seriously, if this is how they would handle persistent barking in one of the hotels, I am now an advocate for no dogs allowed anywhere on property. It has been so bad that we even talked about leaving our pets home and staying in a dog free loop next trip. But, oh wait, ALL of the loops are dog-friendly now aren’t they?
FWIW, we are surrounded by dogs who are well-behaved, but as they say, one bad apple can ruin the whole bunch.
I am disgusted by the lack of response by Disney.

First hand report of Disney campground dog management:

Unfortunately, a dog on our loop was attacked by another dog, while his owner was walking him on the road. He was bitten but is okay. The family with the offending dog has been allowed to stay! Most other campgrounds would have them packing!
I usually do not like to dwell on the negative, but this is crazy. As a dog owner I am becoming an advocate for no dogs, due to the poor response of management.

I sent an email about my concerns with the new policy because we are staying at the cabins in less than two weeks and was worried about my wife's allergies. Someone from guest services called me back. No cabins are off limits to dogs, but the plan is to have them stay in the 2200 and 2300 loops where the designated dog relief areas will be. However, if those two loops did fill up (or for many other reasons) they could ultimately place dogs in any of the cabins. I'm guessing they would move outward from those two loops if they were filled to try and keep them close to the relief areas - so 2400 loop next, etc.

I agree wholeheartedly. I understand the policy change, but I think the implementation was very poorly thought out. We (and many others) didn't have an option to change our reservation to another resort because we were three weeks out when it was implemented and everything was booked.

It can be both as I stated. Start with loops 2200 and 2300 and then if demand exceeds those cabins use others. If a guest with a dog requests the 2800 loop are they going to say no, I doubt it, but I think they would like to be able to contain the cabins with dogs as much as possible. Those who have phobias or allergies just need to know they have stated outright that there is no such thing as a dog-free cabin or loop. You could certainly request to be placed away from dogs if possible, but it is viewed as a "special request" and may not be possible.

You could always have been staying next to a dog. Service dogs have always been allowed at Disney resorts.

I would not have book here, had I been warned. I'm happy dog lovers have a place to bring there pets along, that's not the issue. That seems to be a common quote from people, but I have to say I have stayed in the cabins six times previously over the past 6 years and have never seen a service dog. To compare the frequency of service dogs staying in resorts to a new dog friendly policy is comparing apples to oranges.

I agree. The new policy was sprung with only a few days notice. I wish they had given at least 6 months notice of the policy change--that would give most people opportunity to change their plans.

You don't know that. I myself highly doubt a huge number of guests will start bringing dogs to WDW. It is too much of a bother to do so.

While I didn't notice any animals at my resort, during my trip last week I saw multiple service animals. They are staying somewhere.

No resort is legally allowed to not allow service dogs. No matter where you book you may run into a dog or other service animal.
