NEW Disney Gift Card Deals and More

I got through today. They are aware of the Gift Card issue and said IT told them it would be fixed ‘tomorrow’. They use the same system as we do to process payment so can’t take it over the phone.
Hmm I need to renew DH's AP later in the week and planning on calling and using giftcards. Wonder if it's the same system??? Hopefully it will be fixed tomorrow for everyone.

I booked Droid Depot on the phone with a gift card yesterday, so there may be hope that it isn't all the same system! I'll cross my fingers for you that the ticketing system is the same as the reservation system.

I bought some $100 AmEx gift cards from the most recent HEB promotion. My husband got one and I got one but I can't seem to use these things anywhere. I tried Amazon but it failed and I also tried giftcard.com Every time I use it, it's declined. I've never had this problem with Vanilla Visa. Worse, Amazon took a $0.10 pending hold on it and it's not falling off so now the things are worth $99.90 (I tried both of them thinking the problem was with one of them). Has anyone had an issue with these things?

Unfortunately, not all prepaid gift cards are equal and American Express prepaid are one of the worst as they don't work at most places online (even though American Express claims it does). You probably will have to take it into an actual store and buy something in-store. As for the pending $0.10 you might just have to wait it out as it can sometimes take a while for it to fall off. Once the $0.10 pending falls off, you can take it into a physical store that sells giftcards.com gift cards and then you will be able to use it at giftcards.com.

In general, Visa gift cards by Pathward are considered the gold standard of prepaid gift cards as they work almost everywhere, here is my opinion from best to worst of prepaid gift cards.

1) Visa by Pathward (Blackhawk Network) - best, works almost everywhere

2) Mastercard by Pathward (Blackhawk Network) - very good, works at most places

3) Vanilla Visa - There are different companies that make Vanilla Visa so they are not all the same, but in general not as good, doesn't work in as many places, and have a high rate of getting frozen and have to call to get a new card sent to you.

4)American Express Prepaid - Very bad, doesn't work at most places online

That happened to me the other day. I received a $50 Amex gift card. I wanted to buy something more than $50 on amazon. So I tried to buy a $50 Amazon gift card to apply towards this purchase. Amazon placed the $0.10 pending hold so when the gift card tried to process payment was declined.

I would use the card to reload your Amazon balance instead of buying a gift card, once the .10 hold drops off.

No matter whose network backs the cards, I have had terrible luck with these type of cards and avoid them altogether, no matter the deal. I just have to remind myself of the hassle.

Thanks. I was going to originally do that, but it defaulted to "buy now", and it would have went to my credit card. Instead of switching that, I thought it would be easier to just send myself a gift card. Now that the Amex gift card is in my account I can switch over the "buy now" payment option.

I saw some people online saying that they added it to Apple Pay and reloaded their Starbucks card with it. I tested the waters with $50 Starbucks reload. Now it shows $60 pending from Starbucks and has since yesterday! The $0.10 is still pending from Amazon from Feb 1. This is asinine.

That is indeed the proper term for describing pre-paid Amex cards.

Have you specifically re-loaded a pre-paid Amex to your Amazon balance? Pre-paid Amex cards are entire world of misery unto themselves so nothing like VGCs, etc.

haha100% correct.
I just had this issue. My .10 finally fell off after about 10-14 days.
You cannot load or buy a gift card on Amazon with those stupid Amex cards.
You can use them at Best Buy, with no hold. I ended up finally buying Amazon gift cards on Best Buy with mine.

We use mperks for fuel all the time. We fill up two cars at once and get about 26-27 gallons per fill. You can only have one $1 off/gal at a time, so make sure you have a plan for how many points you want to earn at a time before they expire. Once you use up your $1 off reward, another one should show up to redeem. We only fill up about every two weeks so I only get $200 in DGC when they have this deal at a time.
I was worried about my points expiring so I looked up how long before they expire. Points don't expire until 90 days after earning them and once you redeem a reward it's good for 45 days so I will be fine.

Good to know! Thank you!

Now I feel bad about sending my nephew an electronic Amex GC for the holidays. I haven't heard from him about it, and he's far more tech-proficient than I so maybe he just figured it out.

I add my Amex GIft card to Apple Pay and use it that way. Have no problem at Meijer, Aldi etc. Had one with $3.34 on it and worked perfectly at Aldi this evening via self scan split payment.
