New Disney Dining Plan 2008

For those of you asking, I believe gratuity is included at locations that include gratuity in their cash rates.

Grrrrr! This is frustrating. For DH and I the dining plan is still a good deal, but we might not get it simply because of the principle of the thing!! To take the app. and the tip out and only drop the price $1 is terrible. Bad Disney, bad! We might stay off property.... don't know.

I called to have them give me some costs for comparison for our upcoming Grand Gathering. When I inquired about the cost, she said it went down by about $2 (she thought). She said that the reason they removed the tip was because 90% of the customers who answered the after-dining surveys said the would prefer that the gratuity was removed so they could tip themselves based on the service they rec'd- WHAT?! Who would say that? If you liked the service then tip a little more- if you didn't then who cares- it was already included in the cost of you plan and it was already a really great deal.

Anyways- it is definately more money than room-only with AAA discounts and no meal plan.....Decisions, decisions........

I am assuming if people wanted the tip dropped they thought WDW would adjust the cost of the plan likewise...be careful what you wish for!:sad2:

I'm also sure it had more to do with people complaining that the wait staff wasn't fulfilling their job to get an 18% tip and that the consumer should be able to adjust that amount to fit the service. Not that the tip shouldn't be included but that waitstaff was not always up to par and may deserve less of a tip. So they took it off the plan instead. I think Disney waitstaff is going to be upset when they realize that now they are getting little or no tip when people get free dining but do not want to pay any more OOP. JMHO

I totally agree. Not having done the DDP before, I was concerned about the service after reading that many Disser's had less than stellar service because they were on the dining plan. Do you think it has somthing to do with people from other cultures not being accustomed to tipping? Either way, I don't think it will be beneficial to the servers. Lots of lost income because people don't know tip is not inc. or who are ticked off with the changes and don't tip at all.

I think I am just bummed that I finally get to do the dining plan and then they go and change it on me- and for the worse. I was planning on sharing meals with my Hubby and the appetizers would be perfect for me. I don't need to eat that many desserts. I wish we had the option of one or the other. I am just going to try to remember that the convenience of pre-paying will be better and I will get to eat at restuarants I wouldn't normally eat at.
