What do you think of the information in the allears newsletter about the new 2008 dining plan changes for Disney. I havent used the dining plan yet, and if these changes go through, I dont know if I ever will. This is from the allearsnet newsletter:

... from a reliable source: There has been lots of internet chatter about changes coming to the 2008 Magic Your Way Dining plans. AllEars® now hears the following is scheduled to be announced in August:

1) Gratuity will be removed from ALL 2008 packages that include dining. Tax will be INCLUDED, but the gratuity will not be.

2) The Magic Your Way Plus Dining Plan will no longer include an appetizer in the daily table service meal. The table service option will only include: entree, dessert and non-alcoholic beverage. The price per day per person will decrease by $1, to $37.99 for ages 10 and older; $9.99 for ages 3-9.

3) A new Magic Your Way Plus DELUXE Dining Plan will debut in 2008. This plan will include, per person, per day: three meals, your choice of table service or counter service (appetizer included in the dinner); two snacks; and a resort refillable mug. Signature restaurants will still count as two table service meals. Price, including tax, but NOT gratuity, will be $69.99 for ages 10 and older and $19.99 for ages 3-9.

Other additional rumored changes may also be introduced. Again, this is UNofficial information. Look for Walt Disney World to officially announce the 2008 packages and dining options in August.

Doesn't sound like the dining plan I SO enjoy right now. Honestly, don't know if I will pay for the dining plan again with these changes. I WILL however take it for free:lmao:

Are you freakin' kidding me?!?!?!? That is horrible!! How cheap can you be, tip isn't even included in the "Deluxe" plan?? WTH?!?! I guess we will have our last Hurrah in Sept.

ETA: I just let the children's price settle in, $19.99 for the pathetic kids meal? I think not.

We've been anxiously awaiting 2008 DDP announcement for a grand gathering. The price of the DDP dictates if we stay onsite or off. I honestly don"t think those changes are bad. We never can eat all that food anyway! If the tax is not included, but the prices don't up, we still come out ahead in our family. If the prices actually dropped, that would seal the deal for us! We still love the DDP and it allows us to eat in restaurants we would not otherwise.

I think the dining plan is a waste of food/money so it doesn't matter to me either way, however I will say that maybe now the waiters will at least attempt to work for their tip rather than just seeing that you have the dining plan and doing whatever they want with you.

We used the dining plan twice (once paid for it and once free) and loved it. However, I agree with BubblePopElectrc, maybe now the waiters will be better! With dining plan, they usually bring your food once and disappear for the rest of the night. We usually don't eat appetizer, so that doesn't matter!

We never had any problems with service while using the dining plan. The waiters were very kind, helpful and out going.

the only thing that kept us from universal was the dining plan...food cost was the big deal for us but now i guess we can try universal sometimes...great resorts, express pass and a cheaper meal plan..yeh i know the food is not as good but hey we have three kids so cost is importent!lol we are florida res. so we get GREAT deals at universal and every year a free park ticket and coupon for 35.00 2 park tickets so royal pacific here we come.....

We've used the DDP twice (7 night, 8 night) and ONCE had a bad server. I just think she shouldn't have been in that job!

We probably won't use the DDP again if the rumors are true. We much prefer appetizers to desserts----I wish there was a choice of appetizer OR dessert.

I'm curious, where did you get this info?? 2008 package info is not out yet.

Love this idea! We tend to share both appetizers and desserts so this would be perfect for how we eat out.

As the OP states in her post...this is in the Allears newsletter sent thru the email. It comes on Tuesdays. Pretty reliable stuff, but still only a rumor as of now.
I'm actually not really liking it so far....
:sad2:

Does anyone know if snacks will be included in the new 2008 DDP??

havent heard any mention of that

Thanks in advance

The Deluxe plan is tempting because it includes ALL of your food, but it would be hard to cough up the $180 a DAY that it would cost us!!!!!

I think I'd still buy the regular DDP. I don't really care about not getting an appetizer. But don't take away my dessert!!!

I definitely would not pay for the DDP if this is the case. We would purchase the DDE card to get 20% off our meals and just have TS meals a little less often which is fine. DH hates wasting hours every night using TS credits and you really can only eat so much food. If they offer the Free Dining Plan again, I assume we will book another trip but not 100% sure. I also think if Disney is going this route they should offer a choice of appetizer or dessert instead of just dessert. This way everyone can share and not waste so much food.

The tip is the killer. Dinner at a nice TS can cost our family $250.00. We normally tip 20%. That is an extra $50 that is not included. The price goes down $1 but in reality it goes way up. No DDP for us next year!

That's the clinker right there. The MAIN reason we like and participate in the DP is that we don't have to deal with money or budgeting AT ALL. I love not having to deal with budgeting at Disney, because before it was a real headache having to figure out where you wanted to eat and how much it would cost. Now with the DP all our ADR's are made, everything is included so we just have to show up.
