New Disney development?

Interesting. I thought that's what "Celebration" was supposed to be in Florida. Can't wait to see what the prices are going to be (picturing $$$$$).

What do YOU think about it Buzz?

If they did I didn't see it it's fine if it's already out there, thanks. People looking for thoughts and resurrecting 10 year old threads on toe cramps and whatnot to avoid shaming for do over conversations is way weirder than just a new thread and new thought on an older thing. You do you Buzz

I read something about this a few days ago. It made me curious about how things are going in Celebration. I don't hear much about it, when people post threads about where to live in central FLA it doesn't come up much. I remember when it was built, my thinking was how could it be anything but great? Because this Storyliving idea seems similar to Celebration, I wondered how things are going in the original Disney designed town.

I think Celebration doesn't come up because it's relatively expensive. Currently the cheapest homes listed there (3 bed/3 bath) are in the 600s.

It was posted a few days ago on that area off to the right where Disney news/info appears.

Disney Launches Storyliving to Develop Residential Communities (wdwinfo.com)

Disney eventually sold off Celebration to some other developer. Saw various articles about all of the shoddy construction issues they were having and various lawsuits going on. Supposedly this one is going to be built in California. What the high cost of real estate as well as water shortage issues, some big development in a remote part of the dessert doesn't seem like the smartest idea. Disney can get their hands in so many different business ventures they can easily lose their focus. No company can be an expert in everything and bigger isn't always better. Any new development in CA is likely to be VERY pricey.

I really don't see Disney as a real estate developer. Epcot was originally envisioned as a place to live but that also fizzled out.

I'm pretty sure this is planned with the idea of retirees in mind. They want to out-Village the Villages. I'm surprised that golf isn't mentioned in the video, but I would bet that every one of these communities will either have a course, or be located right next to an existing one.

(I'm sure it hasn't escaped their notice that the most common description of the Villages is "Disneyland for adults". Makes sense that the actual Disney Company would want to capitalize on that idea. Celebration was not planned for retirees, and that was the mistake. Retirees are happier with a lot of prettiness but don't require so much active infrastructure because they don't have to factor in workplace availability and public education needs (and the kind of controversy that comes with them.))

The Telosa Project mentioned below is not envisioned as a retirement community; it's pure original EPCOT revisited; a full working city, complete with major infrastructure for transit and an education infrastructure. That's a much more challenging concept, and so far, I think that every attempt at such a construct (people have been trying this idea since the 1950's in various places in the world) has largely failed.

If you search for Celebration you will find that it has been having issues. The buildings falling apart and mold issues and so on seem to be reported quite often. This isn't Disney's fault of course but whoever they used as a builder and hopefully they will use someone really good for these new places.

I wonder where they plan to build these places? I can't say that I have much hope that they will be all that great particularly for the money.

We spend a lot of time in the Palm Springs/Palm Desert area. Rancho Mirage is really nice. I think it's gonna sell like hotcakes. If they had golf, I'd be bugging DH about it.

Not surprised. Lots of future investing is heading this direction. Marc Lore’s https://cityoftelosa.com/

People want location, sustainability, walkabilty, mass transit, eateries, efficient & functionality living spaces, less is more approach to life, & tranquility vibes where they live.
