Just FYI to all, effective yesterday (4/1/02):

Deposit Amount

The deposit required to confirm a reservation for the 7-night cruise is changing from $200 per person to $250 per person. The 3-night, 4-night, and 7-night land & sea deposits remain at $200 per person.

New Cancellation Policy

If you cancel:

59-30 days prior to vacation commencement date, deposit amount per guest

29-8 days prior to vacation commencement date, 50% of vacation price per guest

7 days or less prior to vacation commencement, no refund

Michelle: For reservations already booked, are the policies on cancellation the ones stated at the time of booking, or are all current reservations now subject to these stiffer cancellation penalities?

Good question, my3kids, I believe the new cancellation policies affect ALL reservations, even those made previously, but I'll check to be sure. :)

Thanks for checking on that for me. It is a fairly significant change...from $300 pp to 1/2 of the cruise fare, I think.

You always give such good information and advice. Thanks for keeping us up to date.

I'm glad we have already booked our cruises for the rest of this year and also 2003! With as many as we have booked (seven this year and eight next), that would be a substantial additional amount.

My3kids, I checked with DCL and you're in luck...the cancellation penalty changes are effective with cruises booked from 4/1/02 on. They do not affect cruises booked before then.

Barb, you guys would still pretty much be okay under the new rules as the deposit changes only affect the 7-night cruise and not the shorter cruises. At least for now! :)

Thanks Michelle! I certainly don't plan on cancelling, and the stiffer penalities make me even less likely to! Glad it doesn't affect this trip, but guess I'll have to plan an extra amount for the higher deposit for each of the 5 of us if we love it so much we rebook on while on board!

what was the previous cancellation policy?

We booked for 11/30/02 about a week and a half ago, and booked through Costco, so our deposit was $200/pp, since it was before 4/1. However, I know that I have to pay the balance prior to 60 days from sailing. I always buy insurance so if I have to cancel because someone gets sick, I have that. But was was the previous policy? Was it closer than 30 days from sailing?

Any info is appreciated.

janets...Is Costco booking Disney again???? Still the 10% off the lowest DCL fare? They saved us a bundle when we booked for this November early last year.

The old policy was:

59-30 prior $100 pp
29-15 prior $300 pp
18-8 prior 50% pp
<7 no refund

My3Kids,

Yes, I called Costco last week, and they ARE still booking. The rate quote they gave me was over $300 cheaper than anyone elses lowest, and it is WAY more than 10% off Disney's fare, they (Disney) gave me the HIGHEST quote imaginable. It was probably close to (if not more than) $2000 over what Costco quoted me. I used Costco last year, and LOVED it. Friendly, helpful, and CHEAP.

they quoted me a rate about $350 less than the lowest I had found. We decided on doing eastern Caribbean since it was cheaper and I really didn't think our 4.5 yo ds and our 4 month old ds would care one way or the other.

They also quoted me a rate that was just over $400 less on the western Caribbean cruise. I used them for our August 2001 7 day land/sea trip and really liked the fact that I was saving quite a bit of money.

My3kids,

From what I understand you don't lose your money if u cancel, you just don't get a refund. You can apply any monies paid on a future cruise. With I think a $25 penalty per person.

Michelle, Correct me if I'm wrong.
