Hi everyone!

I know this question might of been asked, but in true fashion I am asking again. Should i bring a copy of my son's birth certificate? I am a single parent and the only parent on his birth certificate so no permission needed. We are going on a 3-night on the Dream in October. I do have my DS4 passport and will have to sign it. I have read some cruiser have been asked for the letter and some have not. Since I will not have a letter, will a copy of the BC be enough just in case or will custom let it be if i provide our passports. FYI, we do have the same last name.

Thanks!

On the Dream? No. You're only going to the Bahamas & that will not be an issue. If you were going to Canada (for an Alaskan cruise) or Europe, you'd need more documentation, but only a passport will be needed when you're about to board the Dream to cruise the Bahamas with your own child.

I never travel with my son's father, and my last name and my son's last name are different. I bring my son's passport, and no one has asked for anything else during check-in for the three Disney cruises (Magic, Fantasy, Dream) that we've taken in the past two years to the Bahamas/Caribbean area.

I had brought a notarized parental consent form signed by his father for the first 2 cruises just in case, but the people at check-in didn't want to see it even when I offered it. Before the 3rd cruise, I called DCL to ask if anything besides a passport was needed in my case & they said no, so I didn't bother getting the unnecessary extra paperwork a third time.

I always bring a letter just in case but I have never needed it. (I’ve moved on from notarized to just an email from my son’s father, lol).

I’d probably bring one, personally, but I can just about promise you won’t need it.

I've never brought a letter. Only birth certificate for my dd. We'll be doing our 11th cruise soon and never a problem.

I would take the BC just to be on the safe side since it’s the proof you have of being the only parent. I’m a widow and we travel with passports, while I’ve never been asked i do carry the extra paperwork rather than have a potential issue.

Thanks everyone! I just bring a copy of the BC as a just in case matter and placed it inside my passport to just always have it there. I have travel domestic prior to us getting a passport, but do know they are tightening up security lately so just in case method.

The passport should be all that you need, but I say, if it is any concern to you at all (taking up any head space), then go ahead and just take the BC also. No sense in even worrying about it. Instead, put it with the passport, then relax, and spend your time enjoying planning and thinking about the wonderful trip that you will be taking with your son!

Thanks and you right i should not be worrying about this when i need to get my WDW tickets in case Disney does raise the prices next month.

If you booked the cruise, call Disney and ask. If you used a Travel Agent, have them call. I am referring to the letter. I've been on these boards for 15+ years as a member and a lurker and some solo parents have reported issues in the past.
As for the birth certificate, a CERTIFIED copy or Passport will work. Not a photocopy or scan of a certified birth certificate, the actual BC with a seal or on engraved paper (like the paper money is painted on).

I do have the passport, but concern with them asking for a letter that i do not have nor will be able to obtain one. So the copy of the BC is just to show I am the custodial parent and only one on the BC

I'd call just to be sure.
The info below just confuses me more, because it seems to indicate you need the birth certificate as well as a letter, even if you are the only parent on the BC. It doesn't say who the letter could be from.

Thank you this gave me my answer that a BC is fine just showing me as the only parent The site states mid-paragraph "If there is no second parent with legal custody of the child (e..g., the second parent is deceased, one parent has sole custody, etc.), relevant paperwork such as a court decision, birth certificate naming only one parent"
