This kind of puts things in perspective for the current debate over cruise value. Travel City Direct are now offering a TWO-WEEK package, with a week in Orlando and a week on a Holland America Line ship in the Caribbean (a good 5-star line, very comparable to DCL, and actually a newer, more modern vessel) from just £599 per person (in the lowest grade inside cabin). It is available Oct 14-Dec 8 and strikes me as one of the best-value packages I have seen in a while.

Here's their press release:

Having teamed up with Holland America Line, Travel City Direct is delighted to introduce a new 14 night cruise and stay package from £599pp which combines the fun and excitement of Florida with the pristine beaches and tranquillity of the Caribbean.

This new cruise and stay holiday features seven nights in Orlando with car hire, where Walt Disney World Resort, Seaworld and Universal Studios will keep you enthralled, and seven nights in the Caribbean where you can explore a new idyllic destination almost every day.

Cruising on board the award winning five-star MS Zuiderdam, you will have access to some of the most spectacular islands in the Caribbean, including the beautiful Turk and Caicos Islands, and the British and US Virgin Islands. Swim amidst tropical fish and dive with stingrays in the Bahamas, shop on St. Thomas and unwind on Holland America Line’s award winning private island, Half Moon Cay. Whether you want to parasail, snorkel, stroll barefoot on glorious white sandy beaches, or watch the world drift by from the comfort of a shady hammock you'll find it all in the Caribbean.

Departing from London Gatwick between October 14 and December 8 2006, Travel City Direct is offering this spectacular 14 night cruise and stay holiday to Orlando and the Eastern Caribbean from just £599 per person.* Manchester departures are also available with a small supplement. Free upgrades from an outside cabin to a verandah are also available on all dates, subject to availability.

For further details and reservations contact Travel City Direct on 0871 911 2415 or visit www.travelcitydirect.com.

* Note to Editors: Prices are based on two people sharing an inside cabin and include port charges. Price does not include gratuities (which are payable locally at a cost of $10 per person per day).

Certainly a very attractive price :thumbsup2

Having just done a quick search, 3 things to note. Firstly, they are only offering bookings up to Dec 2006. Secondly, having searched every month from now until Dec, I have been unable to find a cruise/stay package for £599. The lowest I could find was £699. Finally, according to TCD website, the cruise is with Carnival Cruise Line :confused3 Still a reasonable deal though, if that's what you want :)

As this looks like a special promotion, I think it's unlikely to feature on their website yet (although it should!). TCD have offered Carnival cruise-and-stays for a while now, but the Holland America Line tie-up is brand new, hence (I think) the attractive lead-in price. It IS only a short-term deal (outside the main school hols, sadly), but it does make for outstanding value. HAL have made huge strides from their rather staid, traditional image in the past 10 years, and their newest ships are very smart indeed. Like Disney, they boast their own private island (NCL were the first cruise line to create the 'own island' port of call, by the way), which is very appealing. You won't find quite so much non-stop entertainment on board, but it is a high-quality package, with particularly good alternative dining and extremely comfortable cabins (some of the best in their class). I can't believe this price will stay in 2007, so anyone who gets in at this rate will probably be getting a real bargain :)

Thanks for that Simon. Sounds tempting :)
