New Cruise Iteneiry for 2004

There has been no "Official" word from DCL that this will actually happen other than the surveys that some people have received so it can not be booked yet.

Thanks, tstobb!

I'll keep my eye and ears open...I'll really like to do a European Cruise with Disney.

Sounds possitively supercalifragilistic expealidous.:earseek:

That's a mouth full! LOL

I was told that Disney will take the results of the survey and make a decision on the Mediterranean cruise by January -February of 2003.

tstobb - I am in agreement with your earlier post. I will pass on any Mediterranean cruise. The ports of Italy hold no interest to me and I'd rather spend any European vacation (which is pretty doubtful in and of itself with the advent of proactive terrorism) on a land tour of Florence, Rome and Venice.

A Panama Canal full-transit cruise would be my vote. If you insist on being the first in line well, that is ok. I'll be the second!

We recieved the survey the other day too (while we were in WDW and just off our first DCL sailing) I would be interested in taking my family but as I told Disney in the survey the potentional high cost of airfare would likely keep us from sailing on the special itinerary. Also noted that I would rather visit those ports of calls with our children when they are older (say closer to teen years). We are DVC members too but don’t have nearly enough points to cover the 7 night cruise and may need to win the lotto to cover the costs associated with the sailing and the NUMEROUS souvenirs my wife would buy

I just took a second look at the ports and they represent some of the most beautiful in the world, and include land visits to both Florence & Rome. This would be a wonderful trip, although perhaps for some of you, it does not fit the picture you have of a Disney vacation. I do agree that it would not be a trip for those with young children, and just from the pricing alone, it seems that they may be looking for a different crowd on this itinerary. I truly believe that these cruises will be marketed heavily in Europe and will provide a new experience for that market. Just as Euro-Disney is not the same as WDW or DL, the Disney cruise in the Med. is likely to be a wholly different - but albeit excellent - cruise experience.

I grew up traveling throughout Europe & just cannot imagine a cruise to the Med mostly because I would not want to only be able to spend 1 day in each of these ports. It is one thing to travel to the various islands where the culture & history are not as varied as those of the European countries so I believe also that this type of cruise would have to be marketed to an entirely different crowd BUT (and I absolutly mean no discrimination against anybody by saying this) I do not beleive that this is Disney's forte' and as an investor in the company, I would be strongly against it. True, Euro-Disney is not the same as DL or WDW but it is marketed directly to the same type of guest.

When DH and I went on the Magic for our honeymoon in September 1998 we filled out the survey and put the Mediterranean as a cruise we would love to take - looks like DCL is truly considering what guests put on those surveys.

Anyway - we would love a new DCL cruise either the mediterranean or pacific (California, Hawaii, Alaska).

DH and I were talking about the rumor of the Magic going to California and how we would love to be on the "repositioning" cruise to go through the Panama Canal - what an experience that would be!!

Getting back to the mediterranean cruise - I think those ports of call are wonderful - for those that have never been to Europe that may be a great start to view a different culture (one that you may choose to like or dislike) and if you love it than you can always plan to go back and spend more time and if you don't like it then you can say "been there, done that, won't do it again".

This is very exciting - even though this is a rumor right now. Count us in!!

Okay, we have heard the OFFICIAL WORD from Disney on this and it is as we have expected: they are simply EXPLORING alternatives at this point, hence the questionnaire. NO DECISION has been made yet on new itineraries.

Just FYI! :)

Here is my .02 cents worth on the Med cruise.

My sister received the survey and told me about the questions.
Personally, I would not be comfortable cruising the Med at this time with so much animosity toward Americans overseas.

I am not afraid to travel; we spent 5 days at WDW and 3 days on the Wonder last December and are going again in Jan. 03 for the 7 night eastern, but I would be uncomfortable without a very high level of security overseas.

I would almost certainly book a cruise with DCL if they were to cruise the Hawaiian Islands.

We actually plan on going to Ireland within the next 3 years so it's not that I am terrified because of 9-11, I'm just not very comfortable with cruising in the Med at this time.

Once again, this is only MY opinion and if it were offered under different circumstances (prior 9-11), I would book the cruise without hesitation.;)

WOW!! I would do this in a heartbeat. I love Europe and have been trying to think of a way to go with my children (13 and 10) that would be entertaining for us all. This would be perfect!!!

Leave it to Disney to tap an untapped market with their magic and family-orientation!

As much as I would love a Mediterranean cruise with DCL-that itinerary doesn't have enough days at sea for me. I wanna relax not just be a tourist.

GarRy,

Not much new here, we just got back from DL. It sure has changed since our last visit in 1996.

I am not too sure about this Med Cruise. I would enjoy the transition Cruise.

Later much to catch up on.

SCOTT H, so how did u like Soarin the ride,

no need to wait for a cruise to take your kids on a fun trip to europe....if i were you i'd pick just one or two cities and leave it at that.....personally i'd go for london and paris.......i finally convinced my kids to go someplace besides WDW when they were 12 and 15....we went to paris for 8 days and had a super spectacular time....they loved just walking.....looking at the buildings, parks, museums.....it's an unbelievably beautiful city...
and of course we did all the required things like disneyland paris (they didn't like it mainly because of the other visitors there who weren't the best at standing in line)....
they actually liked the city of science better than DP.....but knowledge of french is sort of a must there....if you don't speak french it would be difficult....
london of course doesn't have the language problem (well....for the most part....though some british accents can make it seem like a foreign language).....
anyway.....i highly recommend london and paris as great vacation destinations for families with teenagers....

having said that, i too am anxiously awaiting the arrival of the wonder or the magic to the fair shores on this side of the atlantic...my kids are too....(mainly because it means we won't have to fly over the atlantic to get our disney cruise fix...of course we could always consider a 12 step program....:D

Sorin is an awsum ride, more later busy getting caught up here at work.

We are, I think, in the minority and wouldn't consider doing a 7-day cruise with this itinerary. (1) the airfare would be exhorbitant for the 5 of us; and (2) there is not enough time to spend in each port. The following is in response to my email regarding the rumors of a Mediterranean cruise for 2004. This was in my email today 10-29-02:

"Thank you for your e-mail.

Disney Cruise Line is always looking to build on the great cruising experience that we have today. While we continue to evaluate all of our options in regards to fleet expansion and new itineraries there have been no decisions made at this point in time.

Also the mobility of cruise ships opens up lots of possibilities over time, yet there are no definite plans to alter our existing itineraries.

We look forward to the chance to sail with you.

Sincerely,
Tracey, Guest Communications
Disney Cruise Line"

OKAY so what has happened with this ?????????

thanks gaRry
