I also took the SURVEY, and ALSO am a DCV member, and would love to do another trip too a new location, that is kind of what we have been doing with DCL. went on 3 day then they started
7 day on magic and then the did western route..
maybe i do not think the summer is open for booking
in the year 2004 as of yet ??
peter
would love the 12 day crossing cruise one of u guys
would know the route would there be any stops or at sea for 12 days ??? peterr

I thought the window for reservations on the Crusises was 12 months ??? That sounds kinda short.

The route was listed in the survey and was copied in one of the previous posts (I think).

I am not a DVC member and got the survey. I was not asked all the same questions that I see posted here however. The survey asked the likelyhood of taking the cruise, I selected a 5 (out of 10), it then asked to explain why I selected 5, I wrote I thought it would be cost prohibitive for my family, but I love Europe and I love Disney Cruise so if it were not I would love it.

First of all, I want a survey too!!!!!!!

This is exciting! Unfortunately, we probably would not be able to afford the prices, which is why I haven't gone on a European cruise yet, otherwise, I am so there!

I was thinking the 10% higher too. Maybe another deck?

There is an older thread on this subject:
http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=263193&highlight=senor
and a link to ships under construction was provided:
http://www.cruiseserver.net/travelpage/other/new_build.asp
as well as some history of DCL construction times (thanks to Werner Weiss):
For the Disney Magic, the keel was laid October 21, 1996, and her maiden voyage was July 30, 1998. That's about 21 months. (The Disney Magic was supposed to have her maiden voyage in April 1998, but there were delays.) Looking at a few other cruise ships, it seems that 18-21 months is fairly typical.
So, 18-21 months from now is spring/summer of 2004 so it could be done!:bounce:

Hmmm. We didn't get a survey either.

From reading what has been posted above as an itenerary, my interest in this is aboslutely ==>zero<==, sorry.

I agree mcnuss but have you ever flown British Airways? They would put any US carrier to shame and I will never fly anyone else transatlantic. They also have some really great rates right now! ;)

Yes, I have flown BA quite a few times, and not just to England. I love them too! But I have elite status with US Airways so I fly them most of the time bc I get bumped up. We took them to Paris last year right after 9/11 and while it was lovely in business class, BA's business class rocks in comparison. I am told that the absolute best to London is Virgin; lots of my friends swear by it.

As for all the talk about us N. Americans going over for the cruise in the Med, we should not forget that we are not the only targeted market. It would seem likely that Disney is under some pressure from European customers to offer a cruise experience for that market, too. Just as we find it tremendously expensive to go to Europe to cruise, our friends from the other side of the pond must find it outrageous to come here.

we got the survey no DVC members here. we are disney nuts

but then arent we all

very interesting cruise going over 14 day yes yes maybee

Hygene99 and Peter,

Keep me informed if ya hear anything about the re positioning cruise. I would really like that one.

I thought something must be 'up' in 2004 since you couldn't book cruises past April.

I wonder if you can use 'points' for part of this (from the DVC).

Gee, I have never been to Europe, but would love to go sometime. But it does sound expensive, especially with airfare cost. But BOY! What a DREAM this would be!

Can they really risk cutting the number of summer Caribbean cruises in half without a new ship??

A few weeks ago, I saw a (rerun) documentary on TLC about the process of building a cruise ship. Right now, I can't think of the ship or the line but it was completed in "pieces" and assembled like legos. I think the whole process took about 20 months. (From welding the first sheet of steel until it sailed out of the ship yard).

If the new design is due in December 2002, then it still seems too impossible to have a new ship by say June 2004. That's only about 16 or 17 months... unless the designs spoken about earlier are purely decor and that the structure is already in the works....

Hmmm.... maybe I need to wait on my trip timer... I <B>was</B> planning on July 24th, 2004....

Think it was for Voyager of the Seas - great show! Wonder & Magic were actually built at 2 separate yards each & then the halves were floated out & joined together.
If the structure had already been started, it would be on the list
http://www.cruiseserver.net/travelpage/other/new_build.asp
Each shipyard also has their own website with current & upcoming projects & DCL isn't listed at any of them. I would also expect an official announcement from Disney if & when the actual construction dates of the next ship are a reality.
I agree that with the ships being as full as they are, it wouldn't make too much sense to incur the expense of repositioning.

I wonder if they will have a repositioning cruise from Port Canaveral to Barcelona, Spain?

i wonder why the repositioning cruise will be so long....
the QM2 transatlantic voyages are only scheduled to be 6 days....12 to 14 sounds very very long.....and if it's that many days it will be terribly expensive....

as for the person who said europe is cheaper not on a cruise....well...if you want to do it in the same class as on the ship, it's very very expensive on land....(e.g., a 5 star hotel in rome is NOT cheap).....

as for airfare.....since 9-11, airfare has been downright bargain basement.....even business class....even in the summer....
of course things could recover by 2004, but i have my doubts....

DCL, You Listening??????????

Here's my (minority) opinion..........................

European Cruise????? ...................... ick.

Have a nice day.

Okay folks, I just removed a whole series of posts with personal attacks.

Please keep to the topic on hand and don't make it personal.

Thank you!

I wonder if they are probably thinking of pairing it up with one or two days at EuroDisney?

Anybody knows? I've never been to Europe I think this will be my 1st time.

Can anyone tell me if you can start making ressies for this cruise?:bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce:

I start my Spanish lessons soon...Buenos Days Sinor! Ciao:smooth:
