New Credit Card Authorization Holds

You will still be able to use your currency card and gift card to pay off the room charges. As long as you make sure to pay off your room balance with the cards the night before you check out, they won't put a charge on your credit card. A credit card hold is different than a charge and only affects people you don't don't have a credit limit large enough to cover the hold amount.

We will be checking into the Beach Club on the day that the new policy takes effect and we received an email from Disney about this new policy. It won't change anything we do, since we usually use both gift cards and our Magic Bands for our trips. And we will probably never know that a hold was placed on our credit card, since we won't be going into the credit card website to look at the activity on the card during the trip. In fact, most people won't even see these holds, since they come off once the full charge is made.

Great, thats good to know. Thanks =)

We checked in yesterday and they went over the new policy. They told us that they would put a credit card hold of $100 plus the balance due on the room charge. We had a balance due last night of $34 and they said that they would put a hold of $134 on the credit card. I paid the charge off with a gift card last night. We will be checking out tomorrow so the new policy won’t affect us.

Did they release the hold on your credit card when you made the payment or is st still holding? Thank you for taking time out of your trip for the update!

Unfortunately, my husband can't remember the password to the account. I'll see if we can log in tomorrow.

Just logged into my Visa account and the $100 hold is there. We never charge back to the room, but I will ask them about it when we get there tonight. I forgot all about it for a second and was confused when I saw the pending charge. I need more coffee.

FWIW, even if Disney releases the hold right away, it will vary by bank how quickly the hold actually falls off. I have one card where it would come off overnight after its released. I have another card where transactions/holds can take 2-3 business days to process.

So they're adding the hold before anything is even charged to the account?!

@SaintsManiac I assume you completed online check-in and linked a credit card through online check-in? If so, that's what is setup to use for charging back to the room. Disney doesn't know whether you will charge back to the room or not. So the fact that you linked a card is what prompted the authorization hold. Disney has to verify the card is valid and funds will be present IF any charges are made. To avoid this in the future, you can just check in at the resort and not link a card. I don't believe you can bypass linking a card in online check-in anymore.

I guess so. I paid my room balance 30 days ago with my TA. I haven't even left for the airport yet!!!
I believe it is the online check in. I had read that there would be a $100 hold if you used this process to check in and had a CC linked.

I will be willing to go that far, however I am not going to charge one penny back to the room.

I know all that. I was just updating with my experience.

Yep I am curious about when it drops off. I may have missed it in this thread. It doesn't bother me since we never carry a balance on this card. It just surprised me for a second before I was full awake LOL

I'm curious how this will work with different credit cards tied to different magic bands. For example, let's say me and my friend Sally are sharing a room. We plan to pay both of our expenses separately and Sally ties her credit card to her magic band and I tie my credit card to my magic band. Based on everything I've read so far, we both "should" get a hold for $N + $100, correct?
edit by both I mean both individually. Thanks.

Probably depends if you do online check in or not. If you do online check in, it would whatever card is on file. After you add the second person's card, I would imagine then they would get the hold as well.
