New costume for Jasmine?

The color is too blah. I agree about the bangs. Love that winter coat.

When I originally saw Jasmine's new look I definitely wasn't thrilled, but after seeing some detail shots from the Instagram explore page I've changed my mind! This dress is definitely stunning. One of my favorite details is the Rajah embroidered in her belt! I saw a video someone took of Jasmine twirling in her dress, and I thought that the whole dress was tasteful and well made. I actually really like the pants with the sheer material over them! Although, I have to say, that wig has got to goo_O If they just did the old wig with this new dress I think that could be a winning look!
Do you have a link to that video?

In person, you can definitely tell she's wearing pants. The sheer overlay is fairly thick (her arms aren't clearly defined in some photos) so it's hard to distinguish the teal pants under a teal overlay unless you know what you are looking for.

Here you can see the pants under the overlay, especially towards the ground

If that's you, I'd like to ask where you got that shirt, please.

I don't really care for it but mostly I'm indifferent.

I have been seeing a lot of "my kid won't know who this is" hand wringing on FB. So I asked my kid who she thought it was in the new costume. She immediately said Jasmine.

I read in several places that this change was made because there had been complaints about Jasmine showing too much skin. I completely disagree, and those who have that complaint have never lived through the 70s and ever saw kids wearing tube tops and halter tops. She wasn't dressed like a porn star. Far from it. If it was done for cultural reasons, that even makes less sense because Jasmine comes from a very long time ago. I always thought she came from approximately the same time frame that Jeannie from I Dream of Jeannie can't from. Putting aside the blond cast to play someone born in Baghdad, 2000 years ago. It makes me shudder to think how they'll dress Moana when she eventually shows up at the parks.

If you're going to go all historical on this, PRINCESSES would not be wearing outfits reserved for the slave/harem girls in her father's kingdom.

Actually, the time we went (above) Aladdin was the one being harassed! Some guy was absolutely through the moon about meeting him, had brought this entire book of Aladdin sketches and about had a meltdown when he didn't feel like he had enough time or proper photos with the guy. We thought it was funny that Jasmine basically walked over to the fence there on the left and leaned against it waiting for it to be over. And every CM couldn't have been more patient or affable with this guy's over-the-top passion for all things Aladdin!

But while initially I thought the women who wear the Jasmine costume would be dismayed that they no longer get the cool costume on 100 degree days - the thought that she's got to feel the sweaty palms of creepy men on her bare waist all day would be enough for me to want to put another layer of fabric on! The kids will know who she is without looking like I Dream of Jeannie in blue.

Is that really a thing? I like to think of myself as not a creepy guy but sometimes, when the fiancee and I take a picture with a princess, I will instinctively go to place my hand on the princesses waist like you described (I really only take pictures with my fiancee and that's our "go to" pose).

The princess is always very quick and polite in sort of side stepping to avoid my hand and then ask for my arm, which she will wrap her arm through. Every time it happens I mentally face palm myself but yeah, I would think most, if not all, princesses are trained to avoid that kind of "touch" at all cost.

I think the big issue is the combo. I don't think it would be nearly as big of a deal if they kept a general color scheme. I think losing the colors and the outfit along with the hair has put people off. I honestly wonder if my daughter will recognize this as Jasmine at all at this point. And I'll also point out I really don't have a huge issue with the changes, but I get where it comes from.

The video of Jasmine twirling definitely helps it look better, and even the 'bangs' just seem to be her hair a bit messy instead of perfectly in place. I don't hate it anymore, and see this as more the style a princess should have anyway, so my only lingering complaint is the costume seems to be of material I could buy at Walmart --- decent but could definitely be of higher quality.

So my first reaction to the picture: That's like when it was too cold at Halloween and my mom made me wear a shirt under my costume. (Mom was right, given the weather, but it still didn't look/feel right with the costumes.)

Just look at the bodice. There are two necklines, one where the "real" dress is and the other with a very high neckline that looks like a shirt put on under the dress. It honestly looks like it was put on after the fact, just like having a last-minute change to my childhood Halloween costumes.

Part of the fantasy for me is seeing characters come alive in costumes I recognize from the movies. Princess Tiana's gorgeous wedding dress, Belle's beautiful yellow ball dress, Jasmine's edgy, but beautiful Arabian outfit. When you change the costume you give me disassociation of the emotions I get from the movie that I relate to the character itself.

I'm a grown adult and like most kids, I recognize this is Jasmine in a different outfit. It's not the outfit I have come to know her in, but recognize her enough to know it's her. However, I would not line up to take a picture with her because I want to see the Jasmine from the movie; not Jasmine as Disney has "reimagined" her. I hope it's not a permanent change.

An illusion neckline with a collar isn't unheard of, though it is usually done with a strapless/sweetheart style rather than v-neck/straps. If they had kept some of her original top, it would probably look more natural

But I do see what you're saying - it has a bulk too it that shouldn't be there, but I think that's a result of the fabric and construction they chose.

The organza is very stiff, which is important for the pants to have their fluff, but looks awkward with the overskirt. Add the fact that they chose a folded hem rather than a rolled hem (which give structure, but also adds to the stiffness). If they had chosen a chiffon instead the outfit would flow better, but it may not look as good in photos. Aurora is a good example of this - her dress is beautifully flowy, but there's not much volume to it
