The costume looks slightly better (In my opinion) when paired with Aladdin.
The story that I heard was that a lot of people were complaining about Jasmine "showing too much skin." I really hope this isn't the case and people weren't body shaming into a wardrobe changeHeard that a new and not-so-great costume debuted on Jasmine tonight at MNSSHP. A photo I saw showed her in a dress that had Party City written all over it. Can anyone confirm that this is her new permanent outfit? (Please say no)
The bangs frustrate me as much as the outfit.
Exactly. When has Jasmine ever had bangs? The bangs frustrate me as much as the outfit.
Now that you mention it ... and I'm not an aficionado of these things ... but isn't this new Jasmine look converging on the Belle look? Kind of dowdy and frumpy in other words.
I don't know what Disney is thinking, but it seems to me that erasing the glamour out of their Princess characters is a bad idea. Of the course the stories are important and the characters and their personalities and actions are important and worth imitating ... but it's the glamour that makes girls want to buy and wear the dresses and own the dolls, and meet the face characters in the parks and see them in live shows.
There are, apparently, pants under the sheer overlay. CMs who are friends with Jasmine have confirmed it and she's worn it in parades. Problem is, Jasmine doesn't move enough in M&Gs for anyone to see the pants, so it'll only ever look like a dress.
It probably is partially a PC thing. Having an "Arabian" princess showing that much skin is counter to the culture of that region currently.
Or just PC for not "sexualizing" women.
That being said .. I don't have an issue with a character being in different costumes .. they do it with Mickey and company all the time.
