New costume for Jasmine?

The costume looks slightly better (In my opinion) when paired with Aladdin.

Heard that a new and not-so-great costume debuted on Jasmine tonight at MNSSHP. A photo I saw showed her in a dress that had Party City written all over it. Can anyone confirm that this is her new permanent outfit? (Please say no)
The story that I heard was that a lot of people were complaining about Jasmine "showing too much skin." I really hope this isn't the case and people weren't body shaming into a wardrobe change

Ridiculous if permanent. Hate to say it but probably moms who complained. Problem with today's world. If a few people complain or make a big deal about something companies feel have to change.

Today's world has change. It's almost ok to ridicule skinny women. Lol.

There are, apparently, pants under the sheer overlay. CMs who are friends with Jasmine have confirmed it and she's worn it in parades. Problem is, Jasmine doesn't move enough in M&Gs for anyone to see the pants, so it'll only ever look like a dress.

The whole thing looks terrible: wrong for the character, cheaply made and not very well thought out.

Perhaps this is just a special celebration outfit. I can't believe that they will dress Aladdin like that regularly either.

I was telling my sister it looks too wintery to be year-round. Give it 2 weeks then we'll see if it's permanent or not

The bangs frustrate me as much as the outfit.

Now that you mention it ... and I'm not an aficionado of these things ... but isn't this new Jasmine look converging on the Belle look? Kind of dowdy and frumpy in other words.

I don't know what Disney is thinking, but it seems to me that erasing the glamour out of their Princess characters is a bad idea. Of the course the stories are important and the characters and their personalities and actions are important and worth imitating ... but it's the glamour that makes girls want to buy and wear the dresses and own the dolls, and meet the face characters in the parks and see them in live shows.

I think if they kept the old wig and make up the new outfit wouldn't be as jarring for me. the new costumes for the traditional princesses have grown on me, I think it's because they still look like the character. Jasmine, Mulan and Pocahontas on the other hand... I mean the colors of the dresses are right...I thought Disney had more character integrity

No, no, no. Jasmine is my favorite princess and her outfit fits the movie. This summer when I finally got to meet her, her outfit was the last thing in my mind while I was watching her precious interaction with my one year old.

Why do some people have to ruin things for others. I have only met Jasmine once in 2012 MVMCP and she was in her cold weather outfit which is fine but she still looked like Jasmine. Changing her costume and her look surely makes her not Jasmine anymore. There was no makeovers in the film so surely kids will wonder who she is if she doesnt look like the film Jasmine. If enough people complain about it I wonder if Disney will change it back or stick with the strange changes

Do you have a picture of the new Belle look? I tried to look online but wasn't able to find anything I haven't seen before.

It probably is partially a PC thing. Having an "Arabian" princess showing that much skin is counter to the culture of that region currently.
Or just PC for not "sexualizing" women.

That being said .. I don't have an issue with a character being in different costumes .. they do it with Mickey and company all the time.

In person, you can definitely tell she's wearing pants. The sheer overlay is fairly thick (her arms aren't clearly defined in some photos) so it's hard to distinguish the teal pants under a teal overlay unless you know what you are looking for.

Here you can see the pants under the overlay, especially towards the ground

The new outfit is hideous and the new wig is just as bad. Jasmine has never had bangs! She doesn't even look like Jasmine. I don't get why they couldn't use her purple dress style in Jasmine's signature blue. I know they probably try to reserve Purple for Rapunzel.

I think Mickey and his friends situation is a little different. They've been seen in different clothing throughout the years in their cartoons, so it's not really a stretch to see them change their appearance in the park. Jasmine, however has had just a small amount of exposure (no pun intended), thus making her wardrobe rather limited. To me, I would think the costumers would continue to try to emulate her fashion look from the films as much as possible.

From the other responses, it sounds like this new outfit is not part of her original wardrobe.

Of course, it's all fantasy but I think the new costume is more fitting for a princess than her original harem girl/slave outfit. Not that I minded the harem girl/slave outfit, mind you.

Hi all. First of all, I think I agree with most here, terrible costume change ! And if this is because she was showing too much skin, what about Ariel !? :) I think Jasmine is one of the hardest Characters to get "right", meaning most accurate to the look of the movie. One of the things I find interesting is the different ethnicities they have playing her as cast members. I am pretty sure I have seen everything from Tanned Caucasian to Latino to Asian. Personally I think its pretty weird. I wonder if Disney just thinks they can get away with it because people can't tell the difference, or from what I understand because Jasmine wasn't based on a particular model, so perhaps her features and ambiguous. But to me, the cast members rarely actually resemble Jasmine as she looks in the films/books, etc. Other Characters, while hit and miss, generally look much more like their animated inspirations.

When I originally saw Jasmine's new look I definitely wasn't thrilled, but after seeing some detail shots from the Instagram explore page I've changed my mind! This dress is definitely stunning. One of my favorite details is the Rajah embroidered in her belt! I saw a video someone took of Jasmine twirling in her dress, and I thought that the whole dress was tasteful and well made. I actually really like the pants with the sheer material over them! Although, I have to say, that wig has got to goo_O If they just did the old wig with this new dress I think that could be a winning look!
