New contract - 400 or 2 200?

We are on the waitlist for a 400 point contract at BWV. We are going direct through Disney for this contract, but may add on later with resale points. I have a question that I haven't seen addressed here. Would two 200 point contracts - both at the same place and for the same UY - be better than one big 400 point one? The two advantages of this would be: we have two children and could leave one for each, plus if we would decide for some reason to sell, wouldn't 200 point contracts be easier to sell than a 400 point one?

I would assume the two smaller ones would have the same advantages of one larger one. Booking 11 months out, we could combine the points, wouldn't this be the same as one?

If I'm missing something here, please let me know. Most of you seem to have contracts at various resorts, or just add on to one you already have. We have stayed at various resorts at Disney and have always loved the Epcot area the best. We have thought long and hard before making the commitment and have decided we only want the BWV as our home resort, at least giving us the best opportunity to stay there if we can plan and book early.

I await comments from the experts! :surfweb: :thumbsup2

You answered your own question. 2 smaller ones are better than 1 large one. It leaves you with more options as far as resale and leaving it to your 2 children.

We purchased two SSR contracts for the same reasons you listed. The points will be togther and be in one DVC account, there is no additional work in making reservations using the points from multiple contracts.

We actually got two welcome packages when we purchased with two contracts.

We purchased our DVC membership in the name of a trust where the trustee could change over time as we pass the membership to our children, this by-passes transferring the contract.

Yes, absolutely 2 200 instead of one 400. For all the reasons everyone has mentioned.

I have two contracts - 165 HH and 165 BCV. I bought the HH because that's how many points it takes for 5 days in a 2BR during the summer. The BCV was a resale that coincidentally happened to be the same number of points. I'm really glad I have them that way, because I have two children, too!! I thought that in the future they could co-own both contracts - then each year they could decide how to use the points, but if one used the HH points one year, the other would have the same number of BCV points to use.

I'm planning on buying more DVC points in the future - just waiting to see what comes next. If it's AKL or the Contemporary, I'll probably buy there and if not, I'll buy at the VWL. Ultimately, I'd like to have four contracts, each with a smaller number of points.

Yes, for all the reasons listed plus one more.

If down the road you don't need as many points, or have to sell, you won't be forced to sell all or nothing. You would have the option of selling just half of your points.

Two contracts is a very good decision. Unless a third kid is coming into the picture at some point. :teeth:

definitely go with 2 contracts - hey I would go with 150, 100, 100 and 50 one... don't know about doing it all at SSR - but hey I like different....

of course this depends upon DVC - DVC say they might start charging for the closing.... so do it NOW.

Hrmm... at least 2 contracts... or maybe 3 or 4...

150, 50, 50, 50, 50, 50
150, 100, 100, 50
150, 50, 50, 25, 25, 25, 25, 25, 25
etc...

Those smaller ones sell really fast if you ever have to go that route. :teeth:

I can just imagine the look on my guides face... "yes, I want to buy one 150 point contract at BWV and then two 50 point add-ons and six 25 point add-ons at the same time..." :rolleyes1

Oh, and buying the smaller contracts on the waitlist might get you in the door sooner if you don't necessarily want to wait until all 400 come available.

That is great Liz. Are you also going to pay those dues for your kids? 165 points each you will be sticking them with dues of around $700 dollars a year. They might be less than appreciative of this new liability.

The thought of passing on your DVC sounds good when in all reality DVC is yur thing. Don't assume your kids wil think this is so great.

Maybe you'll leave them your car payment when you pass. Why not? They'll get the car right? :moped:

Welcome to the DIS Hersheybar417 :)

I have spent many hours enjoying Hershey PA -- great place to live!

Agree on going with two contracts for all the reasons given.

Ahhh, don't you just love that chocolate smell? I used to live close enough to ride my bicycle there. Marriage, though, has moved me further up the Susquehanna!

hey don't laugh.

one guy on this site, reported he got 600 points - six 100 contracts - he had 6 kids or grandkids (don't remember) and he wanted them to have it after he died.....

Disney will do what you want (within reason). 100 points contracts go almost as fast as 50 points (you don't see them advertised for a reason) but so far DVC is not as quick to use ROFR on the 100 points ones. (unless it is way under priced)

I try to always be prepared to sell.... I don't know what the future holds.

I live further up the Susquehanna too... in Marysville. Hershey is near and dear to my heart though. I worked at the Medical Center for 14 years and my husband currently works at Hersheypark. Welcome to the Dis board.
We are in the process of purchasing our first contract at BCV. Disney just waived ROFR today. I'm really excited to make our first trip "home".

For all the reasons listed in the previous posts. If I was purchasing 400 points directly from Disney I definitely would purchase 4 - 100 point contracts rather than 2 - 200 point contracts. Good luck with your waitlist.

HMMM, we have a 200 pt, 75 pt and 25 pt contracts - and three kids. I guess the one who's in our better graces at the time of our departure will fare the best and the one who's abandoned us in our old age will have only 25 pts. to worry with!

I own two 250 point contracts but would rather have four 125 point contracts.

Steamboat Bill, I'm not sure I understand. Why do you say this? Are you referring to the ease of resale?

We are definitely calling our guide today and changing our request. But I'm not sure now if we want 2 contracts of 200 or more smaller ones.

Perhaps someone could clarify -

If you're buying direct from Disney the minmum contract is 150 - even if your total purchase is 400 point correct?

You could NOT buy (4) 100 point contracts or (2) 125 point contracts- correct?

A couple of posts here make is sound like you can buy less than a 150 point contract and I thought that wasn't the case :confused3

TIA

I would go with 150, 100, 100, & 50 OR 150, 150, 100 with at least two home resorts, especially if one is SSR,OKW, HH or VB.
