I asked for a new coffee maker for Christmas. My step-mom bought me one but it wasn't "for Christmas" because she doesn't believe in giving stuff for the kitchen as presents-ok, so I got an extra gift :thumbsup2:lmao:

Anyway, I used it for the first time yesterday and I went to make more this morning and the coffee that was left over from yesterday was STILL WARM (carafe style). It is a Cuisinart something or other. It also holds a lot more than my other coffee maker so that will be nice when we have company. :thumbsup2

I love your MIL's style!

Enjoy the new coffee maker!!!

Ok so what is it? I am always on the search for the perfect pot!

This is ours... we love it. Just like you said, the thermal carafe keeps coffee warm all day, and since it doesn't have a heater element it doesn't "toast" the coffee.

There is a big difference between these two, even though they're by the same manufacturer. The DTC-975 uses cone filters, whereas the CBC-1600 uses basket filters. Remarkably, that is important.
With a basket-style filter, even if you mound the coffee grounds in the middle, they tend to redistribute during the brewing process and the drip saturates only a portion of the coffee grounds. Even with an enhanced shower head drip design, concentration remains limited. But with a cone filter, the drip saturates the majority of the grounds, resulting in a bolder, richer flavor.

... cone shaped filters because this they provide a more concentrated avenue for the water during the brewing cycle resulting in better flavor in the cup.

For many people, it isn't a big enough difference to matter. They're perfectly happy with their basket-filter coffee makers.

The basket filter in mine is a cone shape so I am not sure what the difference is. Also, you don't have to use the basket, it is removable and comes with some cone filters so you can use either one. I hate the cone filters so I was happy to see the basket. :lmao:

Yeah, I don't like that they call the "other" type of filters "basket" filters... it's confusing.

This is the "basket" filter:

I know. My old coffee maker didn't use a cone shape filter(probably less confusing saying it that way). The permanent filter in my new one is cone shaped-does that make sense? You can use the paper cone shaped filters if you want too (just remove the permanent cone shaped filter).

Congratulations. :goodvibes

I also got a Cuisinart coffeemaker for Christmas - the Grind and Brew. I love it! :thumbsup2
