On recent navigators as well as recent pics on Instagram, it seems like there have been some newly added characters that haven't usually been on the Fantasy before now. Some Pixar, like Sully and Joy. Some classic, like Geppetto and Jiminy Cricket, Mad Hatter and Queen of Hearts, etc.

Anyone else noticing this? Is this a new trend?

I have noticed this too! I am super excited! There are a few that I have never met and are retired from the parks. Cannot wait for our upcoming cruise. I hope it is the trend!

The Navigators from the 1st Star Wars cruise on the Fantasy showed The Mad Hatter, Queen of Hearts and the White Rabbit. I have cruised on DCL every year for over 10 years and have never seen those characters on any of the ships. I would love photos with those "Alice in Wonderland" characters. Hope they are on my cruise that leave this Saturday.

I looked up the Navigators on www.disneycruiselineblog.com and I see what you are talking about. I also see that this was a Star Wars cruise. My thinking is that they might have additional character friends on board for all the Star Wars characters and usually CMs are not only friends with one character, but with a couple. I could see someone being "friends" with Darth Vader (sorry, needed to put quotation marks around friends there, otherwise it looked just far too creepy) als being friends with the Queen of Hearts.

I am also thinking that this might be the reason for making both itineraries Star Wars cruises and for the long time frame. Probably this is the length of contract for those special character CMs.

Do you think there is any chance at all that Elena will be on the Fantasy this spring or the Dream for Merrytime cruises?

That would make a lot of sense. I also wonder if they're choosing some of these classic characters to boost the "Disney"-ness of the other days for people on those SW cruises that aren't necessarily Star Wars fans?
